I agree. However, the movement was gaining steam and the league heard it from multiple teams. Players from all teams in the playoffs were communicating about what to do as the days went on.

I don't think you would have basically had the same story reported from outlets covering multiple teams and series spontaneously come out within 3 hours of the news unless there really was some sort of ground swell or threat that the league was made aware of if it was just post-news conference bs posturing.

I think he hits the nail on the head. Silver has been praised for his "strength" but how much strength does it take to punish someone, most likely outside your authority to do so, when you have the overwhelming internet majority behind you?

Though I guess now best case scenario for the NBA is he dies within the next couple months from the cancer, this scandal negatively affecting his already poor health, and his family sells, easing the capital gains tax on the sale substantially for them. Think Paterno after the Sandusky scandal, who went from actively coaching a football team from the sidelines, after breaking his hip, to dead from lung cancer in 2 months.

Have to admit the guy is honest. Anyone expecting him to change his lifelong beliefs over the course of a week of what amounts to bullying (for a good cause, of course) are fools.

I agree that Silver came at this from a position of weakness. This was his first major issue; he had no choice.

He definitely needs to follow up with a clarification once the outrage dies down.

The ground swell came about as the result of the non-stop coverage in the media.
