Yes. He signed a 4 year, $27 million deal that same offseason, although I think it technically ended up a S&T.

Boston got Thomas from Phx for Marcus Thornton and the Cav's 2016 1st Rounder. Basically any team in the league could have had him.

Before that, the Suns got him in a Sign&Trade for a contract lower than the MLE.

They should probably start tanking.

Wouldn't mind if we lost, but just to see all these front-runners in Curry jerseys walk out with slumped shoulders would be worth a win

A win would be nice actually

They would be 2 games behind the thuggets with 12 to play

Including the game at home against Denver near the end.

The Mavs didn't actually lose, because we all won with Red Panda tonight

After that loss, I'm hoping they can continue losing to position themselves behind Minnesota and NOLA. That should get them the 8th pick, a great spot to swoop in and grab a guy that fell just a few spots due to the depth at the top of the class. Fox from Kentucky anyone? Or the "next Dirk", though after seeing Arizona play in the tourney I'm not sure that's quite accurate.

That loss to portland before the all star break and the recent loss to Phoenix really hurt us. Doubtful that we make the playoffs now.

I'm on board.

Lose, lose, and lose some more until the season is over. I don't want to see this team get 9th place in the west or the worst spot in all of basketball

The Mavs were 16 games under .500 at one point this year. They pushed themselves to 9 games under .500 before yesterdays game. That was a pretty good run of basketball that has given me some hope for the future with Curry, Barnes and Noel. I don't know how you tell players to lose but they need to figure it out. More rest for Dirk. Cut down on Barnes' minutes. More Wes Mathews isolation plays. Some AJ Hammons, Brussino, Yogi lineups. I'm not sure what the answer is but they need to figure it out.

This is an 8 or so player draft and the Mavs are in 10th position. Getting behind New Orleans shouldn't be hard as they have no real incentive to tank. Getting behind Minnesota may be more difficult. Luckily they have 3 games with the Lakers remaining. If the Mavs can just dig deep right here and lose the next 4 they will be in prime position for the 8th pick (with some extra lottery tickets as well).

Welp.

We're as close to 13th as we are to 8th right now. Portland has the easier path to surpass Denver. I concede. Time for Dirk and Barnes to experience some mild knee swelling, and shut it down. Let's work some draft magic, and give Dirk one last hoorah next season.

Good thing the clippers and raptors are coming in. I doubt the Mavericks could beat them anyway. I'm hoping for losses now.

It'd be nice if they give extra time to Noel to get a good look and allow him to further gel with the team playing-wise and learn Carlisle's system while they still have a few games left. You know, before they plunk down a ton of money for several more years of him
Grapesoda2525

They better not let him go like they let Tyson chandler go...... twice......

He's restricted, and absent some bad news about his knee(s), I expect they'll go as high as they need to.

Fun game to watch, especially against the whiny Clippers. Nice to see Nerlens get solid starter minutes against an elite center- he did well with his time

If they really want the playoffs. They gotta win out on the rest of this home stand and almost win out in general.

I'll take a win against the punk clippers any day. Griffin should be suspended for letting someone half his size knock him down. Totally worth the ejection.

Griffin is a lowly thug from Oklahoma. I can't believe how much the clippers ***** at the refs.

Griffin is probably one of the least thugish people in the NBA. Hell JJ Barea is probably more thugish than Griffin.

How is OKC the sixth seed? Mavs seem to own them and making it look easy.

Edit.....I understand now, Russell Westbrook can travel, double dribble and commit foul after foul and not get called.

This game is exactly what frustrated me the most about the '06 finals. Wade would get calls, strictly because he was attacking the basket, even if there was no contact. The foul on Ferrell in the paint with under 2 minutes to go was a garbage call. If you call anything on that contact, you call the extension of the arm by Westbrook to create space as a player control foul. The missed double dribble, the lack of a foul on the ball that went off of Barea, absolutely frustrating. Most of this is because he is Westbrook and can seemingly do no wrong.

That being said, at some point you have to stop playing to lose. The Mavs took TERRIBLE shots late in the game. The reason 2011 ended with some hardware was because Dirk would not only shoot his patented shot, but he would also drive to the basket. Just go back and watch those highlights and that is the killer instinct missing from the current Mavs. Barnes is learning. He took one attempt from right at the rim late where you could have argued he got hit from behind, but every other shot the Mavs took was settling for a long jumpshot or a fadeaway falling away from the basket. Not just one guy was guilty of it either, multiple players settled for tough shots. Very young team that definitely has some pieces to actually build around, though, thankfully.

Edited to add that Barea was pretty solid at attacking the basket as a spark off the bench in that 2011 run. You gotta attack the basket if nothing else than to just get to the free throw line. 4 fouls total in that last quarter is not how you close out a game.

Okay, rant over. Just wanted to come vent around some other basketball fans. Very frustrating end to a game, and I am definitely not a Westbrook fan so I know I am extremely biased towards the Mavs. But still, some frustrating no calls at the end that allowed this one to snowball away from the win column. This team is young and Carlisle will make sure they learn from this one. Can't stop playing just because you have a double digit lead late in the game. Can blame the officials if you want, but there were plenty of opportunities to put this one away.

The no call on the double dribble/travel near the end was unbelievable. I don't see how no one blew a whistle on that. Even if you don't know what the call is, it's obvious it's not allowed, so blow the whistle and then figure out whether its travel, double dribble, etc.

I agree about us not playing to win. Once we got up 13, we started running the shot clock down every possession and settling for jumpers and fadeaways late in the shot clock. And the Barnes turnover immediately after he got the offensive rebound hurt us, but I can't blame him for that bc at least he was trying to score (open layup if the pass wasn't deflected).

On the bright side, they are now tied in the W column with the Pelicans, with the Kings, T-Wolves, and Knicks not that far behind. Projecting 10th place in the tankathon, with 9th currently being a greater likelihood than 11th.

Must lose game tonight. Losing will simultaneously give NO the tiebreaker over the Mavs as well as put them ahead in the standings. The Mavs are now 4.5 out of the playoffs but only 3 in the win column from drafting freaking 5th. Both Sacramento and Minnesota are only 2 wins back of the Mavs. If the Mavs lose @SAC then that gives them the tiebreaker and puts them only 1 game back. Minnesota has 2 games versus the Lakers remaining, plus Minnesota and SAC play each other.

If the Mavs went 1-8 or 0-9 it is a virtual certainty that they get either the 7th or 8th pick. That is Dennis Smith Jr., Malik Monk or De'Aaron Fox. Right now they are in Markannen, Isaac, Ntilinkina range. Keep winning and you get to select Miles Bridges, Justin Jackson or Jarret Allen. That is a drop off.

I've been begging for a tank for some time, but we are at the point of no return. Any of those first 3 guards + Noel/Barnes/Curry is a home run season. Way better than the last 3 years where they actually made the playoffs and took a boot to their ass. It is time for Curry to sit with his sore shoulder. For Barnes and Noel to get limited minutes. More Brussino. More Yogi. Where is Satnam Singh when you really need him?
