MJ selling his majority stake will only help with a conveyance of the Spurs' pick.

PATFO don't overthink this and draft Drew Timme, basically a white Tim Duncan and safer bet than Wemby

We already have Zach Collins. And I think Collins is younger.

Feels like Timme has been in college for 8 years.

Timme seems like a white version of Dejuan Blair. I could see him being an 11th man for a few years in the NBA.

With one of their second rounders, sure.

With the lotto pick? Would be the worst lotto pick of all time.

We need a sarcasm emoji for some of these posts.

Nobody thinks Timme is a first round pick, let alone Top 6.

Spurs lose to Washington and Charlotte beats Dallas.

Hornets have 5 more wins than the Spurs and just 7 games left for the Hornets and 8 games for the Spurs.

So Dallas is imploding. Kyrie, Powell, and Christian Wood are free agents and they likely have no cap room several bad contracts (Bertans, Hardaway, Maxi) no draft pick this year unless it falls in top ten. Luka seems unhappy and is kind of a moody ***** anyway.

If the Spurs land Wemby, would you do this trade with Dallas (and do you think Dallas would do it assuming Luka forces his way out):

Mavs Receive:

Keldon, Doug, Branham, Wesley, and Graham
2024 Toronto pick (top 6 protected)
2024 Charlotte pick (top 14 protected)
2025 Chicago pick (top 10 protected, then top 8)
2025 Spurs pick top 1 protected
2027 Spurs pick top 1 protected
2029 Spurs pick top 1 protected
2031 Spurs pick top 1 protected

Spurs Receive:

Luka
Tim Hardaway
Davis Bertans
Maxi Kleber

Mavs open up 60 million in cap space this summer and have Doug, Graham and Reggie Bullock fall off next year for another 35mm. Mavs rebuild with seven additional draft picks, Keldon (23yo and reasonable 4y74mm contract), Hardy, Green and Braham or Wesley if they are any good. Powell, Christian Wood, and Kyie are free agents.

Spurs assets:

Collins/Bassey
Wemby or Miller/Maxi/Bertans
Sochan/Hardaway
Devin/ MLE free agent?
Luka/ Resign Tre Jones

2023 1st (Wemby or Miler?)
2024 1st
2025 1st Unprotected Atlanta Pick
2026 1st (unprotected swap with Atlanta)
2027 1st Unprotected Atlanta Pick
2028 1st Boston (top 1 protected)
2028 1st
2029 - none
2030 - 1st
2031 - none

Plus a ****ton of second round picks.

I would make that trade in a heartbeat.

Edit: Assuming we can get Luka to tone down the whining.

I think Luka is Luka. But upgrading him from Jason Kidd to Pop should help tremendously. And that potential Spurs team is better than anything Luka has played with.

I don't really know of other young stars that are unhappy.
Mitchell (26) was just sent to Cleveland and he fits there.
Tatum seems happy in Boston. Brown is the wildcard there, but he isn't the difference maker that Luka is.
SGA is 24 and I havent heard unhappiness from him in OKC. SGA/Chet/Giddy should be a solid young core.
Ja is a bit crazy.
I don't think I want to build around Trae Young.
DeAaron Fox finally has a good sacramento team, but he also misses a lot of games.
I can't see Indy giving up Halliburton.
Jokic and Giannis are both 28 and seem happy.

If Miami imploded and we ended up with a 2-5th pick where we are drafting a PG, do you give Miami a godfather offer for Bam? Butler is 33.5 and has 145mm in guaranteed cash over the next 3 years and awful contracts for Duncan Robinson and Kyle Lowry. They are just 7th in the East, a few games above 500. Bam and Herro can't carry them past the big teams in the East.

No idea what Toronto is doing. Pascal is 29 and OG is 26. VanVleet, Trent, and Jakob are FAs.

Maybe if LaMelo forces his way from Charlotte. He's still just 21.

I think Luka then maybe LaMelo are the most likely stars to force their way out.

(I'm not saying the other guys are worth what Luka would be)

Outright trading 7 FRPs (no swaps) is more than any team has ever gotten in a trade. Seems like it would be the right move for a young star for both sides, if the star is unhappy.

Lol Luka led a team to a title as a teenager in the 2nd best league in the world. WCF last year. Dude is a winner. Mavs FO and development just sucks.

The team Dallas has put around Luka is trash. He does whine too much, but whatever. Also, his playoff numbers have been good each year. Not like he pulls a Harden.

Luka turned 24 less than a month ago. He has been All-NBA 1st team for the previous 3 years and with his 33/9/8 numbers this year, safe to say he makes 1st team again.

NBA players younger than Luka that got at least one All-NBA vote last year:
Ja Morant (like 3mo younger)

Ja, Luka, Tatum and Booker are the only guys under 27 to get MVP votes last year.

But guys like Durant do the same thing. Durant is just as whiney (if not more) and also misses assignments because of complaining, at least when he isn't injured. And he has two rings and Finals MVP trophies. Like Durant, it is all about putting him on the right team. In 2018 and 2019, Durant had over 30 techs and was ejected 6 times while with GSW. Luka dominated the Euroleague and was MVP at like 17, Led Slovenia to a Eurobasket Gold at 18, led Slovenia to their first ever Olympic berth and set the olympic scoring record to upset Argentina. Last year, he led a bunch of spares to the WCF.

He has a lot of skins on the wall for his age and I think with better coaching and a better franchise, he would grow up a lot more. You'd at least hope so.

I thought you had to be retired for 5 years before being eligible? Gasol played the 18-19 season. Maybe it's just all the other sports that require that.
