Raptors seem to be expecting FVV and Gary Trent to walk, so expect a fire sale.

I still want OG Anunoby.

According to Las Vegas sportsbook BetOnline, the San Antonio Spurs are favorites to land point guard Chris Paul this summer. Nicknamed the "Point God," a report, which ultimately proved false, emerged earlier this week that Paul was released by the Phoenix Suns. While Paul is still with the Suns organization, there is plenty of speculation that Paul could be traded in the coming days.

BetOnline puts the odds that Paul will head to the Spurs at 2 to 1.

I would trade the Raptors pick back to them plus the Charlotte pick for OG in a heartbeat.

The tough thing is what will his extension/free market value be? I assume he thinks it is max or near max. I think he's an elite defensive stopper and 3rd option offensively on a championship team. I think that should be a 25-30mm contract in the new CBA.

This rim protector just worked out for us.
It almost seems like some of the guys the Spurs are bringing in for workouts are ones that might be undrafted free agents.

Other than us needing a PG, I don't understand the Chris Paul to the Spurs talk. He's old and we won't be playing for a title this year.

Paul to Lakers, Clippers, back to Phoenix, Boston or Philly makes more sense.

Whatever happens, I hope he gets busted out in the first two rounds again.

I agree that I don't get it from Paul's point of view but he may not have a lot of say this year (unless he really is waived).

I would really like it for the Spurs. Even if it's just for one or two years. He's an all time, high IQ player. I love our team, but which of our players screams out high IQ? I can't think of one. He'd be an incredible, demanding mentor. And that's something our young guys, who I think honestly clown around a bit too much, need.

Building on that, one of the things I noticed in the Mets 92 game yesterday, was how well Wemby (as a 19 year old) communicated with his teammates. Whether it was a missed read or being encouraging. This guy is going to be an elite leader. But having someone with Paul's gravitas would be a great transition for him. Not to mention, master the P&R.

I don't think our young guys clowned around. I think they did what was needed - bottom three record for those ping pong balls.

There was nights they put the hammer down and went out beat some of the best teams in the league. They'll be fine.

I think Paul is too selfish, and I don't want Wemby learning that from him. Let alone the cap hit.

We need to find us a point guard that can be here for several years and be the new Tony to Wemby's Duncan.

Throw me in the camp of Chris Paul absolutely makes sense for the Spurs for a couple years. Veteran leadership, elite basketball IQ, one of the best pick and roll initiators of all time, he would be perfect to help out Wemby early in his career. I also think he would make us a playoff team next year and with the addition on Wemby it's time to start shifting from rebuilding to trying to make a contender. No, CP3 won't be here by the time we're contending for titles, but he can help move us into being a legit competitive team and set that mentality for the young team.

Now, I don't think Chris Paul wants to come to San Antonio because the one thing he lacks on his resume is a championship.

As far as an additional rim protector for depth, what do yall think about Mo Bamba? He's kind of unique in that he has 3-pt range on offense, but is a good shot blocker, rebounder, and rim protector.

He hit 38% from three over the last two seasons, averages 3 blocks and 12 rebounds per 36 minutes played.

Not that versatile a guy, but probably someone you could get for 3-4mm/year and on offense you can have him pick and pop out to the 3pt line and get out of the way. Not someone you expect a ton out of, but if he could give you 10 decent minutes a game without clogging up the lane for Wemby and maybe getting a block or two, that would be good in my book. Except for him being a dirty ass sip.

If the Indiana Pacers rumors are true, Spurs need to be burning up that phone line offering up Johnson for the number 7 pick. It might take Johnson plus more to really make it happen, but that number 7 spot will likely net a good player. The Spurs aren't going to be able to roster all these draft picks they have coming up, maybe Johnson + the Toronto 1st round pick plus some of those future 2nd round picks for the number 7 pick and the number 29 pick and whatever dead salary we'd have to eat to make the numbers work. Best case scenario for the Toronto pick is 7, so this just locks that in for us.

It'd essentially guarantee you could grab one of the 3 top point guard options, either Black, Wallace or (longshot if he drops) Amen Thompson.

Black, Branham, Vassell, Sochan, Wemby

With Collins, McDermott as your bench guys + whoever you take at 29 and 33.

This is the moment, Spurs need to be the ones to seize it, we have the wing on a nice contract to make this happen along with a surplus of draft assets that eventually we'll have to trade.

For Indiana it makes sense too because they'd get a known quantity for a team that wants to compete right now and a future draft pick(s) that they could package for even more help if they wanted. They can justify that the Toronto pick could be equivalent to what they gave up this year making Johnson a steal, but I think the more likely scenario is that the Toronto pick either lives in limbo because Toronto starts to tank, or they instead are a goodish playoff team next year with a core or Barnes, Siakam, Poetel and Annunuboy and the pick is in the late teens to early 20s.

I wouldn't trade Keldon unless we can get Scoot or Amen. Keldon is a known quantity on a great contract. He was top 25 in PPG last year and is someone who actually wants to be in San Antonio. I don't think the Spurs would move him to just to take a swing on one of those players. Too risky.

Edit: No way Amen is there at 7.
AggieEP
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If we can get 7, then flipping with Houston at 4 or Detroit at 5 suddenly becomes much more realistic and puts Amen in play.
Enzo The Baker

Also I'm hesitant to trade Keldon because we still don't know if Vassell and the Spurs are going to work out an extension. If we can't move up by packaging picks and other assets outside of our three best players, I'm not interested tbh, unless it's Scoot.

Who is the last 1st round pick to not sign a rookie extension when the team wanted to keep them?

The original team has a huge advantage in that first contract extension. They can offer more years and money at a point when guys haven't yet made life changing money. Also, he'd be a restricted free agent in 2024, meaning the Spurs could match any deal he had with another team. Vassell would have to take less to leave and tell the Spurs he hates them and will sit if they match an offer sheet, so essentially hate it here enough to set back his total career earnings and make himself look selfish. It could obviously happen, but I think the odds are high he at least signs the first extension.

Here's a good link looking at the 2020 draft class as they approach being able to sign their rookie scale extensions.

My general opinion is that moving up to get Black or Amen is generally too expensive and while both are good prospects, both have serious deficiencies in their game.

Keldon has a really team friendly contract and is a known commodity.

The new mock by KOC has Cason Wallace dropping to the Jazz at 16. I think that area is more doable, but if Wallace drops there, I don't see the Jazz sending us the pick.

Maybe we try to work something out with Atlanta at 15, because they are ****ing idiots. Give them that Chicago pick in 2025, so they still have a pick that year and don't have to take on more salary this year when they are under apron problems.

Kobe Bufkin is who the Spurs should target. He won't be drafted in the top 10 but has top 10 upside. His only hole is his lack of size and the spurs would be able to surround him with size to compensate.

I'm good with Bufkin. He was 6'4.25 barefoot with a 6'8 wingspan at the combine.
Max Vert: 36"
Weight: 187
Hand length: 8" (not good)
His agility/sprint numbers at the combine were not good.

Size is good enough, once he adds some muscle. I would be great with picking him up.

The main concern is him being more of a SG than PG.

Bufkin has been climbing a lot of lock drafts. Now whether he actually gets drafted in the top 10 or lottery, we'll see, but he may be more expensive to acquire than previously thought.

As would I. I think if he falls past 10 you gotta think we get aggressive to see if we can move up.

Keldon is also an A+ culture guy. The Spurs know that character and culture are even more important than overall talent. He's a keeper especially under his current deal. I really think he's a high end 6th man in his future.
