I think it is pretty easy to argue actually. The Mavs currently have +6600 title odds. That is an implied probability of 1.5%. Mavs have better odds to get Cooper Flagg at this point.gigem1223 said:

Beyond that there are obvious issues. Starting with health concerns. I would reject any injury excuse coming from Nico because he literally traded for multiple injured players. The "star player" that was traded for is a well known injury meme. You can't trade for injured players and injury memes then complain about injuries.
The second obvious issue is guard play, specifically point guard play. To expect 33 year old Kyrie with a bulging disc in his back to drag the Mavs through a play-in plus 4 rounds (all on the road) isn't unrealistic. Dinwiddie and Exum would then be heavily relied on to provide shot creation (for themselves and others) which isn't realistic. As great as Kyrie is he is still better at creating his own shot than for others.
The Mavs potentially have great front court and wing play. What they need is an elite all-NBA PG to pair with Kyrie. That would make them title contenders. It's unfortunate that they don't have one of those.
Maybe they could get Jalen Brunson to fill that role?
Yeah, injuries and age can't be a shield. This was known yet somehow dismissed by Nico. Seeing this group make it through 4 playoff series seems like a ling shot, if they can even get to the playoffs healthy
Agree with all of this. If the mavs won the finals I think they would be the team with the worst odds in a very very long time. Teams that are 60+/1 to win the finals this late in the year just don't win the finals. It's ignoring reality to act like they are title contenders. Their odds tanked immediately when the trade was made and have gotten worse since then, and it's foolish to assume the Vegas odds aren't accurate.
I also think it's ironic to complain that we could win more games if we could just make more shots or shoot better. We traded away the best playmaker and creator in the game for an injured big man. And we no longer have any playmakers or shot creators other than Kyrie. We are going to shoot poorly and struggle on offense. I know it will seem like we are missing easy shots or should make more shots but that's life when you only have one creator. Thats why the trade was so mind numbingly dumb.

Yeah people are having a hard time analyzing basketball right now. The Lakers do not have a good team. They have lost to charlotte and Utah in the past 2 weeks and were given everything they could handle by an injured Mavs team who played a terrible game.
OKC is a problem matchup for LAL, and that would probably be a 4 game series.

And if you're trading the dude you try and get a Teixeira package so that maybe maybe maybe you get lucky and hit on some draft picks. But %99 of the time if you trade a mid twenties superstar/all nba player you lose that trade.

Agree we shot poorly in the paint. But when's e have no playmakers I think that'll happen more. A big part of the shots missed at the rim or in the pain was pj trying to create his own shot and struggling to make anything. That's not his game at all. But he has to try that now without Luka. So I think the more will be quite a few games where it seems like we are shooting terrible from the paint. Our numbers will be much lower than before bc we won't have Luka setting up lobs and layups to other guys and don't really have anyone on the team now to do that.

I predict he won't have a basketball collapse and catastrophe in the next 5 years, as would anyone with a brain and eyeballs. We can all use ourselves as personal evidence -- I binge drank into my late 20s, smoked weed like a teenager into my mid 30s and loved IPAs. Turns out I also was able to work out 5-6x a week, skied and snowboarded, ran trails, climbed mountains, did crossfit, etc. Was it 2-4 NBA games a week? No, but I was extremely active....on top of working 50-65 hours a week. I was basically invincible until 35 and guaranteed I drank and smoked a lot more than Luka, and with no full time trainers or nutritionists behind me to offset the junk food, beers and joints. He's good for 9 more years, at least. I'm no mathematician, but I think 9 is more than 5.

Radio had a good point this morning that the Mavs have been winning the games lately by working hard as hell because of all the injuries, something that really isn't sustainable long term. Even if the team gets healthy, you've got guys who are gonna be totally spent by the time the playoffs get here.
Definitely worried about Kyrie. They are wearing his ass out
