Braves beat Indians yesterday 2-0. Good start by Wood and solid effort by the bullpen. September call ups are around the corner which should allow us to rest some arms even more.

Also, what do y'all think about the new second baseman? I think he's looked good so far, and he'd be cheaper than Dan as well as a bit younger. I like Dan as a ball player, but I think his best years are behind him.

I also realize that you don't find starting players on the waiver wire very often, but I say keep giving Elliott at-bats and see how he shakes out.

J Upton hit on the hand by a pitch. Day to Day for now.

J Uptons x ray was negative. I guess since we have a big lead it shouldn't matter but I don't like this trend of guys hitting the DL.

Trend? This has been happening ALL YEAR LONG. Off the top of my head here is a list of who has been hurt or who has been on the DL:

Pitchers:
Venters-gone for the year
O'Flaherty-gone for the year
Hudson-gone for the year
Martinez-gone for the year
Beachy-missed most of the year and is back on the DL
Maholm spent time on the DL
Walden has been injured for a while and missed a lot of games

Catchers:
McCann spent time on the DL
Laird spent time on the DL
Gattis spent time on the DL

Infield:
Freeman spent time on the DL
Uggla spent time on the DL
Pastornicky is gone for the season
Pena is gone for the season

Outfield:
Heyward is on his second stint on the DL with a broken jaw and has been injured at other times during the season
J Upton has been injured multiple times and missed games
B Upton has spent time on the DL
R Johnson is on the DL
Schafer has spent time on the DL

I cannot think of any other team that has lost as much as the Braves have this year. Yet you rarely hear about it. The reason? Because we still have the best record in baseball and we are still winning despite the setbacks. This makes me have a lot of confidence in Fredi and the rest of mgmt.

Gattis optioned to AAA

Braves win in extras. C Johnson and B Upton both had 4 hits.

Former Aggie Baseball Player Justin Ruggiano with a HR for the Marlins.

Took a beating today

Freddy Garcia and Kameron Loe with the big league club. I'm curious if Reed Johnson will come off the DL soon.

Gattis hitting well in AAA so far. Hopefully with the regular AB's he finds his stroke.

Once the AAA season is one, you could see him, Cunningham, Gearrin, and Gosslin back up for sure. Hale and a few others are also already on the 40 man if needed.

Bats came alive today. Big win after yesterday.

Braves beat Mets with a solid start by Medlen and HR's by Gattis and Simmons. Medlen is now 12-12 on the year. Kimbrel with save #44.

B Upton now hitting at the Mendoza line while Uggla is still at .184.

Braves beat Marlins to snap a 4 game skid. Bethancourt called up to bigs.

Braves win again over Marlins. Reed Johnson activated from the DL.

You have to be joking. I love what McCann did. Gomez was staring down Maholm before the home run. He stared him down all the way around the bases, jawing the entire time. One of the most bush league things I've ever seen.

I guess you didn't see either situation.

Home plate umpire should have removed McCann from standing in front of the plate.

I've seen that kind of thing happen twice in my time umpiring high school ball here. Neither runner made it farther than second base, and Gomez is lucky his little Babe Ruth-league stunt didn't get him the same treatment.

That said, he umpire should have shielded the two from each other long enough for Gomez to score. After that, I'd have let any Brave that wanted him have him.

Beachy had his elbow cleaned out today. "Should" be ready by start of Spring Training next year.

McCann now has a minor groin injury
