Ok I get it that a new manager winning the WS is not done often. That is simply because most manager aren't gift wrapped a WS caliber team. Typically teams that good are not changing managers. Goodness they love them some Cora.

As a Sox fan I'll note that the hitting was worlds better this season. Last year the team had zero grand slams all year and the fewest home runs in all of MLB. They did a complete 180 in one season.

Not saying that he has not been good for them. They were a playoff team last year. All that was needed were a couple tweaks. The talent was there. The way they make it sound is they went from last to first in a year due to some magical manager powers.

Edit: just like the whole Martinez/Astros storyline. He sucked. He was not an MVP caliber player. It wasn't personal, just part of the game. Getting cut may have made him work harder to get better. If thats the case then its on him for not working hard enough to keep his job.

There's a whole chapter in Astroball devoted to JD Martinez. The problems with his swing were fixed before he was traded, but Bo Porter didn't believe Martinez had changed his swing, and chose not to play him. Then he gets traded and starts smashing.

In a series and a half, Price has salvaged an entire career of sucking ass in the postseason. Will get a ring as a key component.

Price breaks out of his postseason woes, while Kershaw sinks even deeper into the mire.

What's crazy is that Price has only missed out in participating in 2 postseasons in 11 years. This is the 6th year in a row to pitch in one (4 different teams). Going back to 2008, only missed out on 2009 and 2012. And pretty much universally sucked until the last 3 starts.

Fair enough. Announcers always have some storyline that they over simplify and grind into dust.

Losing only 3 games and in the fashion they did is pretty dang impressive. They are a good team. Gonna be tough in the AL for a few years with the Astros, Sox and Yanks.
