Gm 7 was Saturday. He only pitched 1 inning but it was the 9th.

Closing Gm 7 of the NLCS is WAY more stressful than a BP session. Throw in his warm up pitches and I have a hard time calling that work and a BP session equal.

Then Roberts throws him out there on 2 days rest (Sun & Mon) for Gm 1 of the WS.

Just makes no sense to me.

You are correct! I worked Saturday so my daze are off.

Clayton wanted the ball, he got it and Dodgers lost. I am interested to see what Mystery Man Roberts throws out for a lineup tonite (Joc Pederson at SS, Manny catching, etc). That is being dramatic but I don't like his thinking.

So was Cora the key to the Astros success last year in the playoffs?

Not sure. I do not think that this year is a good judge. They are just flat out a good team. That will hide a lot of managerial mistakes. He has made some and has been bailed out each time by the talent of his players.

No, he was never shut down. He battled through an injury after the ASG but was not effective down the stretch. His last three outings in the regular season were awful. Strip kept working, throwing bullpens and sim games, preparing to get added but it never came. Personally, would've liked to see him make it over Alex Wood. Outside of his amazing first half in 2017, Wood just doesn't do it for me. Strip has experience coming out of the pen and was really good in that role last postseason.

He threw 15 pitches in a 5-1 game, picked up 2 Ks in a perfect inning of work. By no means is that too much stress that would push him back.

He wasn't sharp last night, but by no means was he bad. Definitely not any worse than Sale. Sale got more help from his pen and Madson allowed both of Kershaw's runners to score, a product of a wild pitch on his first offering followed by a 4 pitch walk to load the bases. Nothing in Kershaw's performance led me to believe that the work load was an issue, just not a great start.

Oh I'm not saying he was bad.

I was just a little surprised he got the start and wasn't pushed back to Gm 2.

Kershaw wasn't helped by Puig airmailing the throw to home allowing batter to advance to 2B nor Machado making a half-assed attempt on the throw down to 2B on the stolen base.

Puig's throw all the way to the plate in the 1st inning allowing Benny to get to 2nd INFURIATED me.

Love Puig, turned into a hell of a player who is becoming more and more clutch. But he still makes too many bonehead decisions that you'd expect from a rookie, not a guy who has never missed the postseason in his 6 years in the MLB

Obviously want him matched up with Sale. I think the Dodger rotation, if they pitch like they have recently, has an edge on Boston's starters (David Price career 1-9 in October). Start Kershaw and if he beats Sale in game 1, you're looking at a realistic chance of going home 2-0 assuming Price returns true to his postseason form. That clearly didn't happen, but I think the Dodgers still feel confident with Ryu matched up against Price (hoping that both of their last starts were flukes, Ryu losing game 6, Price winning game 5).

All the Red Sox do is score with 2 outs. Amazing. At least it wasn't just against the Astros.

Yep. Madson has allowed 5 inherited runners to score already in two games.

Be quick...what town is the game being played in right now? Do NOT use a search engine.

2-0 in the series. Price finally pitching like an ace in the postseason. LA better hope for a big momentum switch on Friday.

Lots of things, not the least of which was losing Beltran and Cora. Beltran pretty much spent all of his free time watching tape on opposing pitchers and sharing their tendencies with his teammates, which is how the Astros figured out Darvish was tipping pitches and were able to beat him twice.

As an outside observer, it really seems like the Dodgers have had their recent success in spite of Roberts doing his musical chairs managing of his pitchers. Maybe it's just an NL thing.

I think it's a baseball thing. People seem to assume there was a better way to manage around something when something bad happens. You get mad at the player, mad at the manager for bringing him in, mad at the GM for signing him, mad at the owner for signing the GM and mad at the owner for buying the team.

I think a managers effect on individual game decisions is greatly overstated.

yes, one possibility is that the national league is just so mediocre...teams can make it to the NLCS or world series without starting pitching

one thing that has really stood out the last several years...managers are managing every game of a playoff series like it's game 7.

that's just dumb and not the way things used to be. And of course not the way they managed during a successful regular season

I wasn't expecting this. Ratings for 2018 WS game 2 are less than 2017 WS game 2.

To be fair, no one used to have several relievers throwing 98+ in their bullpens. You also have more rest days between games than in years past? (maybe this is not true)

Honestly, I don't think it's that complicated. They are humans and they are managing to keep managing. If they are going to be fired for leaving in a starter too long, then might as well get fired if a guy throwing 99 gets shelled.

The Astros had a lot of appeal last year. A city needed something good and I bet a crap load more houses were watching baseball than normal in Houston last year. For Boston and LA its not as big of a deal. They have other big name teams to worry about.

I also think the Astros are a much bigger draw right now among kids nationwide than they have been in the past. Lots more orange in road trips the last couple of years.

I'm not surprised. Team fatigue is a thing, along with having 2-3 days after LCS series to get football back into the bloodstream.

Don't underestimate how good a story the Astros were last year. All the sucking and the "called shot" by SI.

I watched every game of the LCSs and probably would have watched any other combination than this one. I didnt tune in either night.

This was a very interesting read on how the Red Sox trained themselves to be a better 2 strike hitting team. This is something that I thought the Astros did well last year, hitting with 2 strikes and 2 outs.
