4-year deal would be okay

because that gets him off the books before it's time to pay Yordan

Honest question. Even in LF he doesn't have the arm to gun someone at 3rd, does he?
He would have better luck sprinting to 3rd from LF and tagging the runner out.
that's funny

I asked this before, but what evidence is everyone basing the "Altuve can't throw from the outfield" rhetoric on?

Is this just a "he's short so surely he can't throw it far" assumption?

Have you seen him throw?

His arm isn't anywhere what it used to be (his defense as a whole has really gone downhill) and he's not getting younger.

Watching games and seeing he can barely get it to 1st from 2nd

Yes I get all that, but has anyone actually seen him throw from the OF?

Throwing from 2nd to 1rst is a completely different throw.

Why? What's the rush to get a contract signed?

It is my
Personal opinion the longer this goes on the less it benefits alex
Not sure why you say that. They are currently sitting on 33 long term offers. The only BS offer is from the Astros. This is all on the team to get the deal done. If not, he has his pick of teams offering him well above 30 mill a year.

The only moves occurring right now are the ones from our morning coffee. Good news is that the moves are crap, just like the news coming out of the Boras camp.

This is spot on. Astros have made their offer and we absolutely should not budge. And if he continues to sit on his hands, we need to continue to be proactive and look at alternate moves.

The ball is in Alex's court, and we aren't going to wait forever.

This is absolutely laughable at this point. He is going from being the face of a franchise and having his number in the rafters with statues outside the stadium for years to come to being hated by the entire fanbase for 2 mill a year over 6 years.

I am not sure what is going on here. You would think ego of having a lifetime of people look at you as a great would be well worth 12 million dollars when you will make over 200 million in your playing career.

So you're saying that he may not have an arm for a 70' throw but he's got a gun for a 200' throw?

He's saying that a slide step side arm off balance is completely different than a curl hop wind up from the outfield. Which is correct...

What always comes to my mind when thinking of a long term deal for Bregman is the Stros ending up with another Abreu situation.
I don't think Alex will fall off a cliff like Abreu did plus we know Alex's real age whereas Abreu was likely 2-3 years older so this contract wouldn't get him to age 38-39, which is what Abreu was.

That said, I still wish we would offer just a 4 year deal and give him the $30 million he wants.
Abreu cashed in for his mid-level Social Security benefits when he turned 62-1/2 a couple of months ago.

Man it's never about this. It's always 100% about the money.

Hell Soto could've stayed a Yankee with a chance to go down in history and have his statue out in CF etc etc and he did what they all do...Took the money.

Us fans always think about legacy and all that but players don't. They want the biggest deal possible.

Jesus, I forgot about the scoreboard. he's going to kill himself on the opening weekend crashing into that thing.

We have seen Yordan knock out a scoreboard panel with his hand. I'm concerned Altuve's whole body might go through one of those openings.

I really don't get the Altuve to LF talk. Hes got a noodle arm. Between him and Meyers guys would take extra bases all the time.

What if I told you he's taken reps at first base recently lol
He might be the shortest 1B ever in MLB.
I'm sure our infielders love the idea of a throwing target half the normal size.

How many more errors we thinking if that happens? .33 for every game he plays at first?

Rangers creating own sports network

I have a hard feeling they're going to make much here. They already sell their streaming rights elsewhere. Now they're going it alone for a network.

That's a dumb take unless he's trying to buy something right at this moment worth millions upon millions of dollars. That cash is never worthless regardless of when it comes becomes its at that level where it'd would actually take a stupid amount of effort to spend it.
The old saying, "a dollar today is worth more than a dollar tomorrow" applies here. It's the time value of money issue. With the current economical outlook of inflation, the purchasing power of today's dollar will be less than even 6 years.

Think of it like this - you have the opportunity to have $100K today or $70K today and then $30K in 10 years. You plan to buy a house in 10 years. If you take the $100K and invest it today at 5%, in 10 years you'd have ~$163K. If you took the $70K and invested it that same day at 5% for 10 years and then get the $30K at the end of the 10th year, you'd have ~$144K. That's an ~$19K difference. That would go a long way towards the house you're going to buy in 10 years!

Alex is operating in a completely different stratosphere than 99% of people. When dealing with millions, the $19K difference from above becomes millions of dollars lost if he doesn't take the money today. Forget the tax implications. We don't know his future plans. The dude is big into horse racing - maybe he has plans for that after retirement. Maybe he wants to eventually try to be an owner in a team later in life. I don't know, but while the cash at a later date is never worthless, it certainly is worth less.

He's made a little over $100 million already in his career and that doesn't include whatever he's getting through marketing and licensing deals with his products.

He will end up earning well over a quarter of a billion dollars and he's going to piss away his goodwill with the fans who supported him through the scandal, basically give up his salsa deal as nobody will buy it, and ruin his legacy all over a sum of money which would account for less than 5% of his career earnings.

The term galactically stupid comes to mind.
