You realize the result is the same score, right?

I didn't. Seems like every penalty I can remember being assessed after a round was 2 strokes so I wrongly assumed.

In this case, no harm no foul by anyone.

Rory coming out firing. Would be great to see him post a low number and get in contention.

Ever hit an approach to the green that gets embedded? Should that be played as-is? If not, how do you determine which embedded lies should get relief and which should not?

I'd be open to divot relief in a fairway but the embedded rule is a good one IMO.

We play that way on our group. We take relief in a fairway divot.

Who defines if it's a divot? You take relief only from new divots, or what appear to be divots that are 25%, 50% or 75% grown in? What about if the divot is sanded flush with the fairway? What about if the divot has the sod replaced? Is that really a divot or just an imperfection in the fairway due to a bad mowing job?

I'm not really looking for answers, but just pointing out all of the gray areas when you consider writing a rule to allow relief from divots. Golf's not a fair game. It's okay if you want to have some agreement in your weekly fun game. Different if you're trying to write a rule.

To keep it on topic, I'm pulling for Hovland. And for Michael Block to have a good day. Looks like we're going to see every one of his shots today.

I like Hovland, too. Scheffler as well. And hope Michael Block shakes off that first hole, stays top 10, and cashed a huge paycheck.

I actually don't mind Brooks, but the last thing I want is a runaway, and I feel like that's a possibility today.

I don't see a runaway today. Brooks is using his words to keep his confidence up more than anything for this final round imo. He still needs to prove it to himself after giving it up at Augusta.

And I bet Scottie or Rory or both go low.

Absolutely.

But if you don't thing the PGAT and their media mouth pieces don't care, you've been living under a rock. 2 majors in a row where LIV players have had a good chunk of the leaderboard in comparison to the ratio of LIV players in the field doesn't jive to all the "they don't deserve world golf points". Either the LIV players are just as good as the best PGAT players (still) or the PGAT sure as heck doesn't deserve all the highly skewed points either.

It's why that approach never made sense if the LIV players ever had any success internationally. Just another example of less than stellar PGAT leadership.

That's the great thing about this final round. Anything is possible and conditions look great.

If Brooks is on, watch out. Then again with such a star studded leaderboard and good conditions, anyone could make a run.

I'm pulling for Brooks as much as I hate he went to that stupid tour . Also think Victor finally pulling off a major win would be fun as well. Hopefully they duel it out and don't fade.

The significance of a Koepka or Rory win should be what all of golf is rooting for. We need a new current GOAT. Not the hottest player of a year or 2 years. 5 majors is a milestone. 6 gets you in ratified air. We should all be wanting that next person to emerge.

Jesus. Not this **** again. For claiming not to care, you sure seem personally offended by the PGA. Enough to quote a post from yesterday/late last night when the rest of us just want to chat about the golf today.

It's not about them not being good enough. It's about how to earn yourself into and out of qualification for those points. Period. It's not about points this year. It's about how to compare in 2-3 years. And it can't be the eye test, it has to be systematic.

And LIV players have not dominated the leaderboard. It's actually been about in line with their proportion of the field. 10/18 at the Masters played the weekend. Of course Mickelson and Brooks showed up, and Patrick Reed played well as a former champion. They did well. Everyone else wasn't really in contention and was spread out in the standings. So far at the PGA, you have Brooks and Bryson and no one else. Looks like Cam Smith had a good round today to bounce back as well.

Of course these players are good. That was never part of the question. Can we just get back to the golf?

I think Hovland has the potential to be a better this generation Kutcher / Furyk. Perennial top 20 player that just cashes above average checks every. single. week. There's a good check we look up and he's top 10 on the all time money list in 20 years, but never gets the accolades of players that are more boom or bust every tournament.

Kind of reminds me of a a guy like Steve Garvey in baseball that hit a lot of singles and doubles and racked up all kinds of awards with not enough credit verses a guy like Big Poppy that probably get too much credit because of his power as Brooks or Rory.

Then ignore it and move on.

I hadn't read those post from yesterday.

And no, their top 25s at the Masters and so far at the PGA aren't proportional.

I want one of these guys at -1 or -2 to post a 64/65 today and really put pressure on the leaders down the stretch.

Would be happy with any of the leaders except for Bryson or Rose winning, just want it close and for big them to make some tough risk/reward decisions on the back 9.

He really is something special with the irons. Just throwing darts everywhere and consistently at almost every tournament. But man, he just can't figure out the flat stick.

The majors are the only tourneys Brooks actually gives a **** about. Hard to believe he'd let another one get away after the masters letdown. Hope it's a good final round regardless of who wins

He would lap the field if he was in the top 10 SG putting

Brooks looks like he's gonna be tough to catch. 4 clear of everyone except Hovland and Connors. Probably take a 64 or 65 for anyone outside of the top 3 to have a chance and I'm not sure this course is going to give up a score like that.

He's literally won twice on the LIV where most people said players like him wouldn't care since they get paid a salary.

He lives for the Majors, no doubt. He's driven like Tiger in that regard, but I think he cares in general more than people give him credit. I think his body letting him down really messed with him.

The embedded rule to me is odd. Hitting a ball onto the green or hitting into a divot, you at least hit good shots. But when a guy doesn't clear the lip of a bunker, that is a bad shot and should have some type of penalty. It's like hitting into a bush. You have to take a penalty and a drop.
How do you write a rule that says whether the embedded ball was a result of a good shot or a bad shot? Embedded ball in green or in rough 5 feet from the shot or as it lands are all treated the same.

Easy. If you are playing from a trap and you hit it into the side of the same trap to where you can't play the ball, you are assessed a one stroke penalty and get to drop.

If you haven't noticed, you'll notice after reading this.

The amount of piped-in birds chirping on the CBS broadcast is very annoying. There's a big gap between a golf course and a bird sanctuary.

Try not to hear it now, and you'll likely be as annoyed as I am.

That's fair. I honestly think that was more a coping mechanism to excuse his performance outside of them.

I don't think making unique rules for situations we don't like is the way to go. Sometimes the rules hurt a player. Sometimes guys know how to use them to help. That's the game
