Looking at teams that just lost their coaches so their players are likely prone to enter the portal. A few intriguing names if they enter the portal and don't follow their coach.

Dillon Shaw a 6'7" freshman wing from Saint Mary's.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5313031/dillan-shaw

Mikey Lewis a 6'3" sophomore combo guard from Saint Mary's

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5240980/mikey-lewis

Christian Hammond a 6'4" sophomore point from Santa Clara (247 has him listed in the portal despite Sendek still being there.)

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5176359/christian-hammond

Paul McNeil Jr. a 6'5" guard from NC State

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4873151/paul-mcneil-jr

Matt Able a 6'6" freshman guard from NC State

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5196877/matt-able

Derek Dixon a 6'5" freshman guard from UNC

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5144097/derek-dixon

Jamier Jones a 6'6" freshman wing from Providence

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5041949/jamier-jones

Oswin Erhunmwunse a 6'10" sophomore F/C from Providence, shooting numbers aren't great but rebound and block numbers are interesting. Tho he may be a Fede type player which would not be good.

Chris Davis Jr. a 6'4" freshman guard from Charleston

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5313548/chris-davis-jr

Chadlyn Traylor a 6'3" freshman guard from Charleston

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5313546/chadlyn-traylor

Chol Machot a 7'0" sophomore center from Charleston

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/5313550/chol-machot

Isaac Celiscar a 6'6" sophomore wing from Yale (Yale hasn't lost their coaches but 247 has this kid listed in the portal)

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/5241754/isaac-celiscar

All will have 2-3 years left of eligibility and all have intriguing skill sets that could allow them to be successful in the system. Also, most of them have great positional size.

Current rumors and information on the Texas A&M men's basketball team's transfer portal situation (as of late March 2026)
Current rumors and information on the Texas A&M men's basketball team's transfer portal situation (as of late March 2026) remain relatively quiet on X, with no confirmed announcements of current Aggies players entering the portal or specific high-profile targets committing to A&M.
Most public discussion revolves around roster inventory articles and insider previews rather than breaking transfer news. The 2025-26 season under first-year head coach Bucky McMillan was viewed as a success (22-12 overall, 11-7 in SEC, NCAA Tournament Second Round appearance after upsetting Saint Mary's). Fans and analysts on X have praised McMillan for exceeding expectations with a heavily rebuilt, undersized roster.
Key Departures (Eligibility Exhaustion)
Multiple veterans are out after exhausting eligibility. These are the most frequently cited losses:
  • Rashaun Agee (forward) Team's leading scorer (14.6 PPG) and rebounder (8.7 RPG); third-team All-SEC.
  • Rylan Griffen (guard) Second-leading scorer (11.2 PPG, strong 40.4% from 3).
  • Jacari Lane (guard) Solid bench contributor (6.1 PPG, 3.0 APG).
  • Additional: Ali Dibba (backup guard) and Federiko Federiko (reserve center).
One X article highlighted these as the primary three departures (Agee, Griffen, Lane), though the full 247Sports breakdown notes five eligibility losses.
Confirmed or Likely Returners
  • Mackenzie Mgbako (power forward) Missed most of the season with a foot injury but has publicly stated he is "100%" returning and called the program "amazing." This is seen as a major boost.
  • Expected back: Juniors Pop Isaacs (bigger role late in the year), Josh Holloway, Noah Shelby; sophomore Jamie Vinson; others including Rubn Dominguez, walk-on Chris McDermott, freshman Jeremiah Green, and reclassified freshman Neiko Mundey.
  • Noah Shelby has been mentioned in some discussions as a potential portal candidate due to limited minutes (only 22 all season), but nothing is confirmed.
Portal Timeline and Strategy
The transfer portal window opens April 721, 2026. McMillan has been upfront about priorities: adding positional length and size after the Aggies were one of the most undersized teams in the SEC (ranked poorly in rebounding, blocks, and paint points). He noted this offseason will give better access to top portal players than his late-hire situation last year.
X posts from A&M beat writers (e.g., Carter Karels of ******** and Luke Evangelist of TexAgs) highlight roster inventory pieces and premium intel on what to expect in the coming weeksno specific incoming targets are being floated publicly yet.
Recruiting/Other Notes
  • High school 2026 class additions (not transfers): Four-star center Josh Irving and Neiko Mundey (already noted as reclassified freshman on roster).
  • Some unrelated "Aggies" noise (e.g., Utah State's Jerrod Calhoun leaving for Cincinnati or other schools' players entering the portal) occasionally mixes into searches but does not involve Texas A&M.
Overall, X chatter is in "wait-and-see" mode ahead of the portal opening. Public rumors are general (A&M will be active pursuing length/size; core pieces like Mgbako and Isaacs are locks to return), with deeper details likely behind paywalls at TexAgs or 247Sports. No A&M players have publicly announced portal entry, and no specific transfer commitments to the Aggies have surfaced in recent posts. Things will heat up quickly once April 7 arrives.

I specifically asked it to search X/Twitter for information. Outside of X, the only other places it went were SI and numbers, although obviously it found and referenced Luke's account on X.

X is generally the best source for portal info(not for current team members but on visitors/targets etc). None of the pay sites report anything until it hits X as they are pretty much sworn to secrecy on specific targets until something is reported publicly somewhere else.

Texas A&M Men's Basketball Transfer Portal Update New Info Since Late March

Still very quiet on the actual portal front as we sit here on March 30 (window doesn't open until April 7), but there have been a couple of meaningful updates from the last week that Aggies fans should know about. No current players have announced they're entering the portal, and no specific incoming transfer targets have been publicly linked to A&M yet. The beat writers dropped their pre-portal roster inventory pieces and premium intel, and the big headline is the program locking in its head coach long-term.

Bucky McMillan Contract Extension

Texas A&M announced a new contract extension for head coach Bucky McMillan that runs through the 2031-32 season (with a big raise and significantly increased NIL resources committed to the basketball program). This came down on March 27-28 and was all over X from TexAgs and ********. AD Trev Alberts and McMillan both put out strong statements. After the way he overachieved in Year 1 with basically no returning pieces and major injuries, this was expectedbut it's still great news for stability heading into the portal.

Roster Inventory & Pre-Portal Intel (New Articles Out)
Carter Karels (********) and Luke Evangelist (TexAgs) both published detailed breakdowns last week (March 24) on what the current scholarship roster looks like and what McMillan is targeting once the portal opens. Key takeaways that are new or freshly confirmed:

  • Mackenzie Mgbako remains 100% locked in to return and is being counted on as a major piece.
  • The only name getting any light buzz as a possible portal candidate is Noah Shelby (extremely limited minutes last year), but nothing confirmed and it's still just speculation.
  • All the eligibility departures (Agee, Griffen, Lane, etc.) are locked inno changes there.
  • Emphasis continues to be on adding length, size, and rim protection. McMillan has been upfront that the Aggies were one of the smallest teams in the SEC and that this offseason gives him a much better shot at landing higher-level portal guys than last year's late hire.
No specific transfer targets have leaked publicly yet (deeper intel is behind the TexAgs/******** paywalls), but the program is positioned well with the extension, the returning core (Isaacs, Mgbako, etc.), and the high school additions already in the fold.

Overall vibe on X is still "wait-and-see" with quiet confidence. Fans are excited about the McMillan extension and the fact that the program is trending up, but everyone knows the real action starts April 7. Things will move fast once the portal window hitsexpect A&M to be active on the size/length front.

Interesting case. 6'4", 225. 42% from 3. Was the #1 player out of Alabama in his class. Signed with Alabama, then requested a release from his letter of intent. Wound up at Kennesaw State.

Not wild about his block/rebounding numbers, especially for a 7 footer. Feel like he's another Clemence type player.

Looking at his numbers, and yes I'm aware he only played 14 minutes per game, he only shot 28% from the field, 27% from 3, and 61% from the stripe. I love the size but those numbers, especially FT numbers, make me leery. The size and athleticism though make me excited for the defensive end.

Here's what I really think we need to target in the portal. Granted I'm not Bucky and his staff, just the random musings of a high school coach.

1. A starting level big. I don't think we have to get a stretch 5 but we need one who is a force on the glass and a high level athlete that can get up and down the floor.

2. I think we need a dynamic lead guard, especially if we don't keep Pop, but even if we do keep him if we get a guard with some legit size there's no reason they can't share the floor.

3. A 6'8"-6'10" rotation level big who can stretch the defense out and clean up on the glass. I ultimately think we should have a big rotation of 4-5 guys. If we get one that is a starter level and we think he and Mgbako can share the floor that is ideal. This would also allow us to redshirt the Irving kid coming in as freshman.

4. 2 wings that are 6'5"-6'8" with the ability to stretch the floor and guard. If they are strong rebounders or one is a playmaker even better. What this could allow us to do is have one be able to slide up a position to the 4 if one of our bigs goes down.

5. This is dependent on how many returners we bring back, but if you can identify a couple of young players, any position, that you envision playing some role but ultimately need development pull the trigger on them.
