This will be something to watch. The whole system is in chaos.

I don't know for sure, but I *think* there is an SEC rule that prohibits softball players from transferring within the conference and becoming immediately eligible if they transfer outside of the spring portal window, which closed at some point this past summer.

But there is a baseball player that's transferring into Tennessee (from out of conference) and will be immediately eligible 2 weeks before baseball season starts.

If A&M wants to challenge the conference rule, I don't see how the SEC can justify keeping it in place under the current circumstances of college athletics.

The last Saturday without a diamond sport for at least four months! Thursday can't get here soon enough, and it will be beautiful weather!

I'm coming in from out of state to see family, but plan on getting to a few games. Are general admission tickets usually available on game days.

Usually, seems like there always empty GA seats, maybe for big series this year it could get harder. I would also suggest you check on here when you are coming. There are always tons of empty season ticket holder seats. I'd be happy to pass mine along if we aren't using them

Only four days away - wooo hooooo !!!

Half the players are new. Half of the field position starters will probably be new. Will be 'almost' a new team on the field at any time.

With six games over four days (and two double headers) will probably see several different lineups and might see all the pitchers throw at least a few innings. Excitement is too mild of a word !!

Welcome to Aggie softball !!!!

Several people on TexAgs know the game and history of Aggie softball really well. You will find out a LOT of info on the team here!

As other Aggie sports, the Softball page at 12thman.com has a lot of info. Schedule, Roster, News, social sites, etc. Click on 'links' on the right side of the page to bring up links to a lot more stuff. I use the one for stats a LOT. The SEC has a similar page and is often a bit more current - shows stats for games really fast. The 'Record Book' link is full of great stuff!

Stats:

https://12thman.com/sports/2016/4/8/softball-historical-statistics-archive

The 12th Man page has links to their live updates page for each game. You can also use StatBroadcast (the one I prefer) to follow the games. LOTS of info on StatBroadcast page during a game. Every game is on the radio, too.

Live Updates:

https://www.statbroadcast.com/events/statbroadcast.php?t=1&gid=tam

As with some other Aggie sports, TexAgs has a softball page where you can find videos, articles, etc. There is a recent article about Coach Ford and the team that is really good. Also, several times during the year Softball will put out a video on A&M's youtube page (I usually click on 'videos' to see everything posted, chronologically) and they usually release a 'highlights' video after each game (waaaay to short in my opinion!):

https://www.youtube.com/@AggieAthletics

"The Zone" is Softball's main 'what's going on with the program' type video, found on the youtube page a few times during the year. The latest one here (note: Coach Ford is Head Coach and Pitching Coach):

This will be the third year with Coach Ford and staff. They have done really well. Last year made it to Super Regionals. We were seeded waaay under where we should have been. Committee seeded us 16th just to send us to Austin to face the #1 seed sips. Figured we would get tossed out of the tourney easily. Did not go that way. Three games, all decided by one run. We won the first one but that's it. A few more clutch hits and we would have gone to the WCWS. This year we want to go farther. The following link is the highlights of that first game in Austin (note that we lost several key players to graduation but we have many great new players on the team for this season), a game we want to build on this year:

Note that the SEC is the most competitive softball conference in the nation. Adding OU and the sips makes it even more so. You and your daughter are in for some fun !!!

In order to gain immediate eligibility, a student-athlete will need to declare his or her intent to transfer by February 1 for Fall sports, May 1 for Winter sports and July 1 for Spring sports. NCAA rules include similar deadlines except the NCAA deadline for Fall sports is May 1

https://www.secsports.com/news/2021/06/sec-to-allow-immediate-eligibility-for-intraconference-transfers

If the above rule is still enforceable then she is not eligible.

The only question is whether any rules regarding transfers are still enforceable. We are in odd times.

I am going with the thought she will have to sit and be pleasantly surprised if she somehow gets a waiver

At the meet and greet, Coach Ford said that both her and AK knew that she'd have to sit out a season when transferring to A&M and she wanted to come anyway. Without knowing details, think it speaks volumes for the culture Coach Ford has built for the program!

Challenging SEC intraconference transfer rule is a bit different than challenging an NCAA transfer rule. SEC Student athlete wanting to transfer in the late portal window could transfer to nonSEC school and not have to sit. Thus, the rule does not prevent a player from playing D1 ball, only limits the conference. Player transferring in conference knows the rules and chooses to sit a year.

I haven't heard of the SEC changing the rule, and they also doubled down on it last summer announcing that transfers from OU and tu would count as intraconference transfers even if the late transfers occurred while they were still technically in the B12. Mostly a fall sport/football question.

Will there be a game thread for each tournament and each series? I think it would be organized and a nice idea! I'm thinking there would be a lot more foot traffic into these threads and a lot more eyes on softball this year due to the winning program Coach Ford has built! I feel like this could be a great season! Would anyone be down to have that, I'm no softball expert, but I love watching Coach Ford's team and will try to watch every game this year and could do some game threads. Maybe an isolated thread for each tourney and for each weekend series! I did them for volleyball and currently for men's basketball but if you all want to keep everything here, then it's understandable

It's an NCAA rule covering mid-year transfers in spring sports (Softball, Baseball and Basketball). They have to sit. The B1G player of the year transferred from Minnesota to Duke and she's sitting too. It's not just the SEC.

I was thinking the same thing. One "game" thread per weekend. I am pretty good about posting during road games but not as much during home games. Don't like spending all my time at the park on my phone

The following TexAgs article is really good ... and was written by a youngster! Echoes what we have been talking about on this thread - the loss of a lot of offense but talking about players who can step up and produce. From the freshmen, he mentioned DeeDee and Kelsey as I have done many times and also KK and Frankie, possible starters. Add in infielder Larisa for good measure!

https://texags.com/s/64938/potent-offense-should-be-solidified-by-portal-adds-talented-youngsters

Less than three days until the first pitch of the 2025 season - wooo hoooo !!!

As others have said, heard that AK is for sure sitting a year. But will be in the dugout, announced with the team pregame, etc. Thus why she is on the roster.

Also I love the idea of having many more arms to relieve Kennedy, for this first weekend do you think she pitches in the first 2 Thursday games, or gets a little bit of work before our matchup with Baylor Friday night, where I hope she gets to throw lots of pitches so we can get a solid win against #19 Baylor

I expect to see 4-5 pitchers on Thursday. Definitely Kennedy and Sidne need to throw a few innings

Thursday is a doubleheader so two starters.

Lefty and Sidne are starters. Good chance we will see them start the two games. One of the great posters on this board recently suggested that Sidne can be better than Lefty when she is on. I strongly agree with this assesment. When they are both on we will have an awesome one two punch for the first two games of series.

Leavitt started about half of the games she appeared in last year. A third the year before. Lessentine started at least one game in Fall ball. Might see one of them start on Thursday but more than likely on Friday, a single game. But Coach Ford may, of course, mix it up!

Grace was generally a reliever at Ole Miss. How will Coach use her? Probably in relief.

No idea how Coach plans to play the remaining freshmen (start vs relief or combo). It is one of the things I have really been looking forward to finding out !!

Saturday is also a doubleheader. Will we see the same starters as on Thursday or will we see Coach mix it up, perhaps starting a freshman or two?

Taylor Brown had a huge number of strikeouts and a very, very low number of walks in HS. If she has kept this up in practice she might be used as a closer a lot but might even get several starts this year. If she is as dominating in college use her as both. If not this year, in the future. She has the potential to be an All American in the future, maybe even several years, as do several of our freshman class (all positions).

On that note, some of you may have noticed I am really excited about our freshman class, since the day they all signed. They have a chance to go down as one of the greatest classes in Aggie history. And there HAVE been some great ones so that is saying a lot !!

Gosh, first pitch only two days away. After waiting since the super regionals last year for opening day I am really, really ready !!

Softball went to a single season thread because there wasn't enough traffic for single game or weekend threads. Perhaps the expectations/results will lead to enough traffic to separate them. It seems to me this thread is busier this preseason than last year.

I started doing the single thread a couple years ago because I felt a lot of times discussion around the program would fall off the front page of the board between weekends, and the weekly game threads were very sporadic. I though maybe doing something similar to the Astros or Rangers season threads on the MLB board would be helpful because a single thread on the subject would always be bumped and always stay at the top of the page.

If the level of interest takes off to where we can have general discussions about the program on the main thread AND have game only threads, I'd be thrilled. More Aggie softball discussion is always a good thing.

I think with the rise in the program there is a lot more interest and having a "tournament thread" or a "series thread" would be awesome to follow along! I know for certain I'll tune in for sure since I can't really attend games. I'm sure many of us would appreciate those type of threads! And during home games where some of you all are there, I'll provide inning updates and runs for those of us that can't make it or want to follow along here

Yep. Maybe we'll get enough interest that the baseball only people demand softball get it's own forum.

Coach Ford talked quite a bit about lineups in the press conference. I figured we would see quite a few lineup changes in non-conference but she surprised me with some of them. Non-conference IS a time to try out different things so it will be fun seeing how different lineups work out!

It was annoying not being able to hear the questions to Coach and the players and the volume from the players was quite a bit lower than Coach but I could understand what they said.

Now down to less than 48 hours!
