If we don't have the guts to fire an obvious mistake and cut our losses then it's just another reason that we aren't a serious program. The whole point of hiring him, other than players begging, was that he was cheap and we could cut bait if it wasn't working. Well. It isn't. We have a budget of over 100 mm per year and just got schloss's buyout which could basically be handed directly to Earley to get him out of town. If we can't figure out a way to do that, in the one other possible revenue positive sport in the program, then anyone reading this should just forget about us winning anything in baseball ever. Miss st just fired their coach who won a natty, and our friends in austin just absolutely dragged us on the field and in terms of completely destroying our program.

We deserve to lose forever if this is our response. Shame on anyone associated with it. Find a damned way.

I scanned a report covering Earley's hiring and because our brain dead AD gave our yet another fully guaranteed contract, it looks like it'd be nearly $3M to buy out Earley + 700k to buy out Kelly.

I don't think it's happening.

The buyout of Earley is what we got for tu taking Schloss. So unless we decide the money is better spent elsewhere, we have the funds.

"So you gonna buy him out?"

How much does a year of an empty stadium cost?

This is on Trev for being totally unprepared when POS left and for hiring a guy who wants to be the players buddy to be a Head Coach.

This entire baseball coaching staff is clearly not working and from a peon, it is time to show them all the door. I can hardly believe that Trev gave the caricature of a pitching coach that we have a $700K buyout.

Someone with head coaching experience. They went for the big dogs and came up empty so they tried to make a decision for the short term to keep the team together and hire the players buddy to coach the team hoping it would work out. It has not
Probably OU coach Skip Johnson

Yes, this season is over. Need to lasso an experienced HC who can convince guys to stay and recruit the many holes we will need to fill. Be the first in line with a big time job opening and get to work.

Unfortunately, I don't think they took the 2.7 million from schloss and put it in 9 month CDs.that money is likely somewhere else now.

Would love to be wrong, but I have never seen anything by our AD that would make me think they'd be capable of admitting a mistake this quickly, especially when it'd cost nearly $4M to correct it. I'm betting he's still here next year.

Yes but this requires a road win at Georgia who is very good at home. Of course it's possible but this team is folding under the pressure and pressing way too much at the plate
LOL no. A road win at Ga gets us nothing.

This team can still do it. They can win the next 4 and or the tournament. Not saying they will, but they can. It has to start tomorrow. They can't win 4 in a row until they do, but they can win tomorrow. I was very encouraged with what I saw from Rudis today. Different pitcher. I am still infuriated with Earley. He wasn't ready for this, but on the job training needs to be completed very soon.
He was pitching against the worst team in sec history

Earley was a high risk experiment initiated under great duress, and it failed.

Money is both the answer and the problem. I greatly doubt that sufficient funds are or will be available to pay a buyout, hire an excellent coach, and finance a large player payroll.

Perhaps the money for the compressed Frankenfield expansion could be reallocated, or not.

The situation is precarious, with the worst case being retaining an inexperienced and unsuccessful head coach and not having enough NIL donor dollars to rent a highly competitive roster willing to play for him. The inevitable result would be adding the current baseball regime to the terminally ill status of the soccer and womens basketball programs.

It's a hot mess, and we all are hoping that magic happens.

At the number 1 RPI team? Yes it does. However, if we get swept by Missouri though then we would need to sweep Georgia

I hung with him through the season and was very impressed with the fight, but this is inexcusable. Something he's selling is not being bought by the team. You can't lose a home series to this gutter dog with everything on the line.

Great guy, maybe he needs 3 more years to finally become elite and maybe he will, but if we care about this program we have to move on.

Next year will be a total rebuild with or without him. With him we get the worst negative recruiting we could imagine. Start the process immediately.

One can care about the baseball program and NOT want to fire Michael. Tired of this narrative. Many reason not to fire him. First, he's had one year. Second, who's paying?

Not firing Michael doesn't equal not caring about baseball.

Also, let's build the player facility, start the stadium revamp and keep NIL up. Let's keep talent coming to this program.

I haven't seen a lot of talk about it in the baseball context, but the proposed House settlement will radically change the landscape. We will go from 11.7 scholarships to 34 (but no walkons); however, NIL money for baseball may all but disappear as NIL deals would have to be approved as legitimate by Deloitte, so there won't be any more straight pay for play. At least that's what they are talking about.

well, can't say optimism isn't upstream from delusion....

this rolling turd isn't going to sweep a team like Georgia, in Athens.

What narrative are you talking about? I'm fine if someone wants to disagree. I'm not looking for a fight. The discussion is, if we keep him what do you think will be the result of our recruiting/portal buys? Because he will get eviscerated by tu, LSU, arky, tcu tech etc which means we need to pay more and do we have the donors who have the appetite to do that for him?

That's the major situation.

If we win tomorrow and sweep the #1 RPI team at their place, we're likely in. That'll be a top 35 RPI & 14 SEC wins. Do I think it happens? Hell no, but it's possible. I'd just assume getting it over with so we don't embarrass ourselves in a regional.

If I say a million? Does that make my take more or less valid? The point is, we should be able to do it from within the budget or using schloss's buyout. Somehow we found $70 MM for Jimbo's buyout "within" the budget, but can't find 3 for Earley? BS.

We owe Earley $2M and Schloss buyout got us $3M
3-2=1 million for next coach and payoff Earley assistants
