Quote:
Paz rated as the top high school pitching prospect in Texas before he had Tommy John surgery last summer. The LSU recruit looked good when he returned to the mound in a bullpen for scouts on May 29 and his heavy sinker kicked up a couple of notches to 93-95 mph on Wednesday. He also threw three 83-86 mph sliders, including one with the highest non-Barr spin rate (2,952 rpm) and a trio of 87-mph changeups.

As far as Freshcorn right now, his ceiling is projected as a pick somewhere in the 120s.
That's similar to where Sdao was before his leverage year where he decided he wanted to come back for one more year. With the new eligibility rules, Freshcorn now has another leverage year.
I'm not assuming he comes back in this case, but the chances of him returning 1 more year are greater than what they first were.
I go to the Premium board to see what Brauny/Richard Zane post. And then head here for the more level headed commentsRED AG 98 said:
Yes, appears he was a late cut from our side. Awful timing for a kid that really wanted to be here and I hope he finds somewhere quickly. And to be clear, I hate the game not the player (ME in this case).
As you would expect, Premium is being 100% rational and level-headed about this. (Actually most are but what I can only assume is a family member is rage-posting ).

Well, sucks for the kid, feel for him, But, Mike is paid to win, and if he and his staff, believe that it was a necessary move.. I'm in.. and it shows that Mike is making tough decisions and not coaching on feels alone.

Maybe he just doesn't want to be in competition with that many arms. Or with the change in pitching coaches, maybe he doesn't align with our needs.

If they felt this was necessary then he shouldn't have been offered in the first place. We're going to have many pitchers next year and some will contribute little. If he ended up being one of those, the impact to the team would be negligible. It would have been more understandable to surplus someone on the staff that has already demonstrated marginal ability.
It lends credence to some of the stuff going around about Kelly.

Kelly knew he was going to be gone… so he did nothing but basically call pitches last year
You have to imagine a new position coach did a full evaluation on all the pitchers in the roster as well as the recruiting class. And then he had some hard decisions to make based on what he saw.trouble said:
