I too laughed when he popped her with the hammer. My wife sitting on the couch however did not appreciate it as much as I did.

Colin Hanks is really looking more and more like his old man as he ages.

Loving the Billy Bob Thornton character. Just a guy that like effing with people, plain and simple.

BBT was awesome, enjoyed the first episode

Getting the hotel employee to pee in his boss's gas tank - then calling the desk to report what he was doing was pretty funny.

I'm unfamiliar with any of Billy Bob Thornton's previous work, so this was sort of like discovering Bryan Cranston for me. Great performance.

I'm interested to learn more about his system of morality.

I was rooting for him in a Walter White sort of way when he killed the bully, but not the cop. He took what the bully did to Nygard personally and said he "didn't deserve to draw breath", but he apparently doesn't apply that standard to himself after he made a policeman's pregnant wife a widow. I guess it was self preservation at that point, but then he threatened a second cop and his child.

I think his system of morality is "there are no rules."

Also loved the prank call to the older Hess boy. I think Billy Bob Thorton's character just enjoys screwing with people. He saw Martin Freeman's character as this weak-willed, timid guy that he could easily manipulate and that he killed Hess just to see how the guy would react.

Wondering if that M-249 will get some use in the series...

I also loved his previous prank. Coaxed the teen to wiz in the boss's gas tank, then called the boss to rat on him.

I agree that BBT's character simply takes joy in screwing with people. But from the previews, it appears he's also a hitman.

From the beginning of the episode and the phone call during, it was pretty clear he was a hitman.

The Thornton Hanks traffic scene was awesome. "You choose to walk into the light instead of the darkness."

That was a great way to have her go. Just pure anger. Bang her head with a hammer. And there was a second there where it wasn't clear to him what he'd done.

I am in the minority both here and nationally based on IMDB, but I wasn't that impressed.
There were definitely some great scenes, the traffic stop scene mentioned for one.
But the over the top accents and the over the top acting by the dude playing Nygaard kind of drug it down for me. I get that the movie had some of that as well, but 10 hours of it will become rough. Also, what little they got to in 2 hours made it seem really slow, it was almost the running length of a full movie with and felt like it could have been done in an hour.
BBT is great though. Will give it another week at least.

Yeah, I saw it and liked it actually.
But maybe having seen it a few times and now this, because it's so over the top I am not sure it works for me more than small doses. Like I said, willing to give it another week or 2.

I agree the dialogue is a little over the top, but we have good friends from Minnesota and you get around their entire family...it really does sound a lot like that.

Just watched last night, awesome show. I did not see the murder of the wife coming at all.

Where can you find the true story and such of Fargo or what stories made this movie/mini series?

I know the movie isn't really based on a true story, so I assume the TV show disclaimer is fake as well. Just kind of adds to the setting.

Neither is based on a true story. The claim that it is gives you license to do things an audience would otherwise not believe.

Did I miss something? How did BBT get out of the house before Leater went looking for him?

I don't think they ever explained it. I'm assuming they'll show it when Lester and BBT presumably meet back up.

I tried to get into this show, but it's simply too annoying. I've tried to watch the pilot 3 times now but keep giving up. Those of you who can tolerate the intentionally bad acting & delivery, the accents, and the awkwardness of the entire program have my respect.

re: the accents.... People from up there really do sound like that.

I'll watch anything with Billy Bob. Enjoying this one. I loved the scene about the "no pets." LOL
