The featurette leaked online a few days ago and was then taken down. I never saw it, but this looks to be the movie footage extracted from the featurette and fan-edited into a mini trailer of sorts, hence the new and old shots. Reading the description under the video basically confirms as much.
It might have just been my theater, but the four-minute behind-the-scenes IMAX featurette that played before our Avatar showing last night had the audience buzzing. 90% of it is focused on the preparation/execution of the motorcycle canyon leap (with a mini trailer of shots from the movie itself comprising the last 10%), and you can't help but come away from it utterly impressed with how insanely committed Cruise is. In the wake of Top Gun: Maverick it almost feels like Cruise has somehow ascended into an even higher level of movie star, and this is obviously completely anecdotal, but you could just feel the excitement for this movie percolate in the packed theater, in a way it hasn't prior. I really think TG:M might have changed the game for Cruise in a way, and that box-office-wise, this could be the biggest M:I movie yet.
Anyone have a YouTube clip of the 4 minute update? I don't plan to see Avatar..

People can say what they want about him personally, but he's just built differently from any action film star that's ever come along. Goldeneye is one of my favorite Bond films, but this isn't Pierce Brosnan diving into the window of a plane with a green screen behind him.
Cruise is a machine. 500 skydives. 13,000 motorcycle jumps.
He makes Steve McQueen look like a 10-year-old doing homemade bike ramps on the neighborhood street.
Never is a long time but I cant imagine a movie star bigger than tom cruise.

First time seeing the motorcycle/skydive video. Insane and amazing.
I'm curious about the logic of filming the biggest, most dangerous, stunt first, though. Seems like you'd want to push the risk of injury off to the end of filming.
If he seriously hurts himself that early, then you're delaying or canceling the film. Seems like you'd want to have enough footage in the can to make a movie before you subject him to the higher injury risks.
I guess they offset that thru insurance to some extent, but not likely to capture all of the opportunity costs, etc.
