I think MCU has done well with their deaging because it is just faces. I remember Samuel L Jackson in Captain Marvel looked good in his face, but he moved like a much older man when running, etc.

Definitely some de-aging for Harrison-you can see dots on his face. Could be just a nazi flashback?
I find it completely unnecessary for Hollywood to de-age digitally. They did Tarkin and Leia in R1, and Luke in The Madellorian but if you look at the actors/actresses who played the parts for filming, they were close enough for fans to accept the replacement. There is really no reason for it. I mean a little make up and you can probably find a young Indiana Jones replacement for some flashbacks and fans will still watch and, assuming the story is good, still love the characters.TCTTS said:
It's almost assuredly just a flashback. Still, the de-aging has me nervous. I *really* hope they've found a way not to Irishman/De Niro this.

Annnnd I just read he hurt his shoulder rehearsing a scene. Not surprising
Ford is 78. Sean Connery was a spry 69 when Last Crusade came out.Quote:
How old is he now? 80 or approaching 80?
Well, I do like the sound of that. But queue up the haters who will insist that time travel, like aliens, should have no part in an Indiana Jones movie, while ignoring all the religious and magical stuff that was present in the first three movies.TCTTS said:
I can't vouch for the accuracy of these at all, but a few rumors I keep seeing...
- The movie is primarily set in 1967.
- NASA plays a role in the plot.
- Mads Mikkelsen plays a former Nazi scientist who now works for NASA.
- Phoebe Waller-Bridge plays a British reporter who gets caught up in the adventure.
- There's potentially some kind of time travel element.
- There's definitely some kind of WWII element (as evidence of the set photos) - likely the opening - that takes place in 1945, but could *also* have something to do with the potential time travel element later in the film.
- The bad guys *might* be trying use some kind of NASA-related something or other to either reverse time in some way, or change time to where the Nazis won the war.
Honestly, as crazy as some of this sounds, it does make sense on a certain level. Knowing this is Ford's last stint, circling back to Nazis in some way feels right. And we know former Nazis like Wernher von Braun worked for NASA, and that this almost assuredly takes place at the height of the space race. Not to mention, Mads Mikkelsen as a former Nazi scientist is about as perfect casting as I can imagine.
I don't know, I just like the idea of the final Ford/Indiana Jones movie being about one last desperate play by any remaining Nazis to essentially either undo the past 20+ years or redo WWII. Something along those lines feels so fitting for Ford's last hurrah.

i don't care if they're chasing a device that they think or fear could lead to time travel, but i really, really hope this movie does not contain actual time travel.
On a related thought, there is nothing that says these movies NEED to be in order chronologically either. It might remove the "will Indy survive" , but it would open more story telling options.TCTTS said:
Basically, if that were the mandate for this movie - Indy should fight Nazis - knowing this entry would have take to place in the late '60s/early '70s (Crystal Skull took place in '57, a movie that came out 13 years ago), "former Nazi scientist who now works for NASA" would be the natural arriving point. In fact, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mangold & co reverse engineered the entire plot based on that mandate/conceit, should these rumors be true.
The premise of the book, The Man in the High Castle, was that the Axis had won WWII. The book focused on a radio broadcast that described a different ending of the war, rather than films. There was nothing about time portals and alternate realities in the book to my recollection - a Nazi-fied America was the reality. The movie fleshed out the premise very well, with a depiction of what life might have been like under that scenario. But then it dove into science fiction with the alternate realities that some characters were able to travel to and from.TCTTS said:
Oh, yeah, good call. I haven't seen Man in the High Castle either, but from what I know of the plot, that sounds about right. As if the bad guys here could essentially be trying to go back and turn the premise of that show into a reality.

Btw, just a heads up, but some potentially spoilery set pics went public a couple days ago, and are now being run by some bigger news outlets, not just on reddit and Twitter and the like. So don't click on any set pic stories you might come across if you want to stay 100% in the dark, as I just found out the hard way. It's nothing so big as to spoil any kind of cameo or death or the end of the movie or anything like that, and it will almost assuredly be part of the marketing/trailers, at least to a degree. That said, the pics *do* basically confirm something about the plot in big way. Like... this movie could be pretty crazy, but it also opens it up to potentially being a ton of fun (and weirdly relevant thematically, in a cool way).
Hopefully we finally get the first trailer in the next month or two, and have a better idea of what we're dealing with / won't have to avoid this kind of thing for long.
Anyway, I'll shut up now, but in the meantime stay frosty.
