Any chance they're doing this proactively due to the Covid hangover that might still be lingering next summer?TCTTS said:
I can't figure out why they pushed nearly a year (from July 29, 2022 to June 30, 2023). They've been filming for months, are surely close to the end of production, and would have just about the average amount of post-production for a summer blockbuster, if releasing in late July of next year. The only thing I can think of is that there's just a ton of CGI or de-aging effects, like way more than normal. But even that doesn't quite track. Otherwise, this is a real head scratcher.
That's good. I've honestly been tuning out most news for the past few months so I didn't realize how "back" the theater business was. I just remember seeing several weeks ago that Top Gun was pushed back again and figured we were still in push back mode.TCTTS said:
I don't think so. We've had three movies, three weeks in a row, open to $50M+ each, with a possible fourth in a row this coming weekend. One of those - Venom - opened to $90M. That's pretty crazy. While it could always be better, box office/theater-going is essentially back, and will hopefully only continue to get stronger. Not to mention, Disney itself is releasing Eternals in three weeks, which is tracking through the roof. So I'm almost positive this has nothing to do with Covid, and everything to do with the production/post-production schedule. Maybe they see the Indiana Jones franchise as a summer-only event, and when it started looking like they might not make next July, they decided to basically push an entire year instead of releasing it in, say, the fall.

cannot wait to see @mang0ld's take on #IndianaJones. He's the reason why I'm so excited for the sequel.

Friend of mine was at a Top Gun premiere event in Hollywood a couple nights ago, and ended up having drinks afterward with someone he knows who works closely with Lucasfilm (who was also at the Top Gun thing). Told us the Lucasfilm guy had recently seen 20 minutes of Indy 5 and was RAVING about it. Like, wouldn't shut up. Said this guy isn't the type to blow smoke up his ass either.
All I know is that I'm now super curious, and pretty damn pumped.
… And it’s beautiful
