Final day of the group stage, right? I may have miss the day it was in a group, where is Lawrence of Arabia?

I know it not easy to put together any of this but it was nominated.

There's a few that we all missed.

Edward Scissorhands
Spider-Man
Lawrence of Arabia (never seen it)

And I'm sure a few others.

It happens, I guess.

The AFI top 25 scores of all-time list has a lot of older films which didn't even make our list. Lawrence, at #3, included.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World has an underrated soundtrack. Probably doesn't belong in this tournament, but it's pretty outstanding in its own right.

Group Z ends up a tie between Superman and The Man From Snowy River
This is shocking to me. In my life, I've never heard someone hum the theme from Snowy River. Superman's is an all-timer and beloved by all. If a dark horse emerged from that group and it had been Rudy, I could have seen that. It is really popular with folks who were in school during the 90's.

I listened to all 3 tracks since I've actually never seen the film... What am I missing with Snowy River? Does it have a big following?

The tracks without the movie would lack context of course.

It's a beautiful film but was an Aussie picture and had a small but devoted cult following here. It was mostly word of mouth and more of an adult interest and specifically horses. Horse lovers and riders and people that are interested in ranching or that lifestyle liked it a lot. It was a huge movie in my family - we raised and rode horses most of my life. I kinda left behind the horse world after college but not my sister and her family. Easily one of the most beloved movies for many in my family.

And I would say you haven't heard the music because you didn't know it - I've seen it used in various things like ice skating routines, background music in public events, played at piano bars, and was used in the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympics in Australia of course.

And collectively I would say myself and most of my family at that time were not superhero movie fan types. I loved Star Wars fo course, but never got into superhero movies. Batman was better imho.... and just some of the MCU movies really grab me.

I'm not surprised at the result at all - when some on here were talking about Superman running away with it I was like.... doubtful. There are a lot of Snowy River fans out there. Its sort of akin to Last of the Mohicans to me - great nature scenes, great music, romantic back story and conflict of course. Not a war in this case but still.

Thanks, ZJS. I'll have to add this to my list to check out. I'm a TX boy, but the suburbia kind. Can count the number of times I've been on a horse with one hand.

You're talking Australian Film Institute, not American, right? I know Williams won the Oscar for e.t. In '82.

It's set in 1880 by the way.

Since you know nothing about and he is not shown on the posters, etc...you may be surprised to discover one very famous person in it.

Kirk Douglas plays two roles in the film - not just one. He plays very different brothers. One a rich rancher the other a peg leg gold miner who lives in the mountains. Thats not a spoiler.

He infamously came up with the idea for the peg leg brother on his own. And he was known to be quite domineering on the set as the only bonafide American star. He was rough on the cast and crew that he considered green and naive, and argued for many script changes that he got because he was Kirk Douglas. He later sued for the profits from the film too.

Anyway. Hope you enjoy it. It's got a 7.3 on IMDB and 85% on RT.

I didn't include it or a few others based on my own judgement that most people on this board had not seen them and they would be a waste of a space. And I needed to get to a number that was divisible by 4.

Man From Snowy River is a fantastic movie. It is on Disney+. The song the girl plays about halfway into the movie, Jessica's Theme. That song is played in many a wedding.

I'll keep my eyes open for it. I had hopes that D+ would have a more stable library than other services given I'd think they own catalog rights.

Also FNL related, if you need a little music to take you into the evening, might I suggest Daniel Lanois and his nutso steel guitar playing Sonho Dourado live.

I'm planning something special for the very end of the tournament.

It will be sort of like what TCTTS did for the release of the last Star Wars movie poster, except his was the result of a lot of hard work and talent, and mine is going to be thrown together and really stupid. Still, should be fun. You can thank me going to HEB at 7 a.m. on a Sunday after getting 3 hours of sleep and listening to my Spotify while staggering from aisle to aisle trying to think what food my family eats as the visionary genius behind this project.

Still gotta finalize the positions for the 3 movies from AA that are going to be moving on the round of 64, but I just laid out the tentative brackets and suddenly watching that Grammarly ad 630 times on YouTube is worth it. Tomorrow is going to kick off a fun few days, folks. Will probably close AA and get the big enchilada started early in the morning. Someone break the news to George Martin.

I'm up early today doing rewrites for the Winds of Winter chapter where Lady Stoneheart strangles Tyrion during Dany's first Small Council meeting as Queen of Westeros. Feeling bouncy! Let 'er rip!

The winner of Group AA, going away, is The Phantom Menace.

Apollo 13 and Glory also received enough votes to make the Field of 64.

The Field of 64 goes live at 9 AM.
