Last 2 groups feel like taking the champs of the Mountain West or MAC into the post-season playoff. Congrats on a good season, but not a serious contender among them.

Also, unrelated to this voting: The Living Daylights is one of my favorite Bond themes.
Yes, that's a good one.

A programming note: I'm sure some of you have noticed Group N is a bit "bottom heavy" with Rogue One the most popular choice by a country mile - only one other entry has even recorded votes. I know most people don't think of Rogue One as a HOF soundtrack, but it's likely headed for a quite high seed given its current level of dominance. Nothing to be done there. It will likely make 2 more popular soundtracks have to face off at an earlier time than we'd all like, but eventually the cream rises.

Meanwhile Group M is first genuine 4-entry race to the top. Only 5 votes separate first from fourth right now.

I thought I remembered reading around the time of its release that Michael Giacchino only was given 4 weeks to write Rogue One's score after being brought on board very late as a replacement. While not an all-time top 10, it is still quite an accomplishment and a big part of why many, me included, think it is the best Star Wars film of the Disney era.

If we ever do greatest scores of all time from a tv show (scores not theme songs), the only acceptable winner for me would be Lost.

Personally, I wish this track had made the top 3. It concludes the action on Scarif and goes directly into the Vader attack scene ("Hope" track).

That would've been my pick as well.

Muck, as the all-powerful commissioner, have you considered expanding the number of eligible songs as we get deeper? It would be fun to distinguish some movies that have a single memorable theme versus others that might have far more than three classic tracks. I'm thinking mainly of the top-tier like A New Hope where we all could name no less than 5.

There is no number of eligible songs. Picking 3 was meant to be a representation of the whole soundtrack without posting the whole soundtrack. Brian and several others have listed that they are voting based on their enjoyment of songs other than the 3 listed for certain movies. And quite frankly it's already taking me 30-45 minutes a day to pull all the links and update it. I'm not very interested in going deeper down that rabbit hole.

Totally understandable. Your work on this has been most appreciated. Totally enjoying revisiting all these scores!

Avatar wins Group M in a contest that saw all 4 entries get at least 15% of the vote and possibly 3 of the 4 making the field of 64.

Rogue One wins Group N running away, although I think my early message sort of sabotaged its margin of victory. Oh well.

If the tournament started today, the top 4 would be:

1. Jurassic Park
2. ESB
3. ANH
4. RO

51 entries have now received at least one vote. That means by Friday we'll have our "First 64" and then start seeing entries get cut on our way to the big showdown.

A quartet of popular films in Group O and an understated Group P are up in a bit.

Hot take: This Willliams' kid is going places and I think he's got a decent shot at getting out of Group O.

VOTE HERE!

Group O

Wonder Woman

Schindler's List

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Attack of the Clones

Group P

Can we get a list of the movies not receiving any votes at the end of the group stages?

There have been 5 so far. I can scroll back through this thread and possibly remember

I don't think First Man or King Arthur got any votes. I'll have to look some other time for the rest.

FOTR goes tomorrow, but TTT and Superman are not in that group. Actually Group S might be worse overall than Group V. Group V is just tough for me.

And I realized today we didn't nominate Iron Man, which is a soundtrack I really dig. Oh well, put it in there next time there's a global pandemic.

It's in there somewhere. Sad to say I have never heard of that movie.

I haven't seen it, but it's always listed among the greatest scores of all time. It's a Robert De Niro movie.

Group O's champion is Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Finally a break for John Williams!

Group P's champion is Patton.

The top 4 overall seeds remained unchanged.

A slight scheduling change.
Today: Groups Q & R
Friday: Groups S & T
Saturday: Groups U & V
Sunday: Groups W & X
Monday: Groups Y & Z
Tuesday; Group AA

Wednesday noonish - Friday next week will be the Round of 64
Friday noonish - Sunday night will be the Round of 32
and so on.

Doing a group only next Tuesday instead of 3 groups on Monday. Give me more time to seed and maybe also do my job.

Group Q & R coming soon.
Fat Bib Fortuna

Groups Q and R are now live. On Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, I had to take out "Christmas at Hogwarts" because it has vocal lyrics in it. I replaced it with "Harry's Wondrous World" which I feel is a more well known track.

VOTE HERE!

Group Q

Home Alone

The Mission

FOTR

Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone

Group R

Moneyball

Licence to Kill

POTC: At World's End

Gone with the Wind
