This is so much better than the 2017 version. I don't know what possessed them to release that monstrosity.

2 minutes into watching it with my son: "Why does Lex Luthor have hair?"

I only watched JL once when in the theater, so not sure I will remember enough of it to compare to this version. Maybe it's better that way in taking a somewhat fresh look at it again.

the superhero movies that have achieved a genuine sweeping transcendence can just about be counted on one hand: "The Dark Knight," "Spider-Man 2," "Black Panther," a few others.
I really liked BP, but not sure it needs to be in the "best of all time" super hero movies list, per say. I'd put Captain America: Winter Soldier in there, the Avengers (2012), Iron Man and Infinity War as well. Maybe GOTG and both MCU Spideys. The Dark Knight might be the best super hero movie ever. BP was definitely in my top 10 for the super hero and MCU list not doubt.

I was disappointed that the first JL was not very good. Had high hopes. Looking very forward to watching it this weekend once I get some time.
someone actually said that???

If the reviewer giving the 'new' JL movie this great review said that I wont' get my hopes up that the new 4hr version is much better than the original.

Ok, I'll be the dummy... is this an extended RE-release of the first justice league... a directors cut of sorts? Or is this entirely new story/new content?

Asking for a friend.

There's so much new content but the overall plot isn't exactly different. It's still Steppenwolf vs the Justice League.

What makes it so radically different from the Whedon theatrical version is that there is actual patience with the story, and a background story is given to each of the JL heroes, their motivations, and why they're teaming up. Cyborg and Flash, guys who were kind of glossed over in the first movie, are both MUCH more fleshed out, and Steppenwolf actually gets a compelling villainous motivation other than just "I'm here to conquer because I can."

Spoilers are allowed here, right? Spoilers and random thoughts follow:

  • It was pretty good, better than the original movie. A very good Cyborg origin story.
  • There's an even better 3ish hour edit in here somewhere. Cut down all the Snyder slow-mo and you might cut out an hour. I'd easily lose the last dream sequence too.
  • Ares should have listened to Thanos and gone for Darkseid's head.
  • The anti-life equation came from nowhere and so did Martian Man Hunter. Why didn't he do more?
  • It could still use some help punching up the one-liners
  • The Superman waking up fight was really cool
  • Loved the Joe Morton/Silas Stone sacrifice call back to T2
  • Even as a straight man, why did Lois have to put a shirt on Henry Cavill? damn
  • The music was all over the place and was pretty much abandoned for only score after a while
  • Steppenwolf's loin cloth was very distracting

I honestly don't believe any hype for this film. People have hyped this up so much in their mind that they HAVE to have this be good to justify their hate on the Whedon version
I hated Justice League. I didn't think the Snyder cut was something that existed or needed to exist. I absolutely LOVE this movie. It is ****ing GREAT.

It's maybe worth noting that he doesn't necessarily say that BP is all that "good" in the sense of what makes a good movie, but it's hard to deny that it "transcended" just being another MCU release. It was a major part of the popular culture, in part or mostly because of what it meant to the black community, but still, I think it reached a status that very few superhero movies reach.

Now, if we're talking about just great superhero movies, there needs to be more love for Thor: Ragnarok on here.

Also I stopped reading RT a long time ago and metacritic is a little more lukewarm on this.
I love Black Panther and it is definitely one of my favorite MCU movies. This forum is literally the only place I've ever visited that has these kind of takes.

I don't think this version ever existed until they decided to make it due to the fans asking for it excessively. I don't think there was a cut before that was like this. I could be wrong, but this seems to be a film the audience willed into existence.

I mean probably. But they didn't do that many reshoots apparently for this. The CGI? Sure. But the dialogue and plot construction were way way better in this version. The Whedon version disgusted me.

I could live 1,000 years and I'd never understand how they could put out that trash they released in theaters, when they had THIS movie.

They essentially threw out all character development, zapped it of all emotion, and whittled it down to the BARE minimum to make a comprehensible movie.

It feels like if the studio had taken the three LOTR movies, cut out 2 hours from each movie, and put out a single movie. How can you expect to have any emotional connection at that point?

I just can't fathom what they were thinking.

This was truly epic. In the actual sense of the word. Every character had a chance to shine. There is an ACTUAL story for Cyborg. I felt like I left the theater knowing next to nothing about the character or even caring. THIS made me care.

Flash was SO much better in this one, too. His introductory scene with the car accident was awesome. Up there with the two Quicksilver scenes in X-Men. Why on Earth would they remove it? And then how he saves everyone at the end...holy hell. That was amazingly done. The score, speaking to his father....that actually got me a bit emotional.

But I think my favorite thing about this is that it actually FEELS like a sequel to Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. The three movies actually flow together and it feels like a single universe. That was not the case before. (Every time that Man of Steel music hit, it was chills-inducing. Especially that first little shot of the Superman hologram above the Motherbox, with that MoS score coming in. Goosebumps.)

There's a lot to love here, and I'm sure I'll post a dozen more times with things I loved. And there's honestly not much to dislike for me. It's four hours but it never really drags. All the time they spend setting up the characters is what makes the final act really hit.

What really sucks is knowing we'll never get the real sequel to this movie. Unless there's a chance that if the success is big enough...they could hire Snyder again and get everyone to come back?

A guy can hope.

This is better than The Avengers.

That was good. Whoever released the theatrical version should be f'ing fired for eternity. This version makes that one all the more nonsensical to the point that I now think WW84 may have actually risen in stature to the point of only sucking as bad as the theatrical version of JL.

My main gripe is since this was filmed before Aquaman solo movie(?) it kind of negates that movie since this takes place after that in timeline. Specifically, Arthur seemingly meets red head for first time here even though his solo movie already happened. That was odd. There were a few other minor plot holes but nothing worth mentioning.

During the original battle for earth they showed 3 old gods. Two were mentioned which were Zeus and Ares. When I first saw him, I had assumed the huge guy with the bear cloak was Hercules, but then I guess that was Zeus because he kept shooting lightening? But I've never seen a young Zeus.

Ares was bow guy. So who was axe guy that finished off Darkseid?

Hated Superman's one liner on his return to block Steppenwolfs axe. That ruined his return for me.

Gal Gadot in that white museum outfit and then the red outfit. [Homer Simpson drooling inserted here]

Epilogue looks to be some version of the Justice comic where Joker killed Lois and Superman went nuts.

Flash was kind of redeemed in this.

Cyborg. How do you have a movie about mother boxes which created him and then essentially not have him in the movie in the theatrical version? I don't even like his character but that was stupid and criminal after seeing this.

Oh, and agree about Superman's one-liner. That was probably my one and only gripe. Kind of unnecessary.

Just stopping the axe and smiling would've been enough.

He had the most to gain from the Snyder cut. There was so much of his story and role left out in the original. That and the ending for the flash were big upgrades for both of the characters.

I'm actually a little salty we won't get the follow up to this movie now, unless it includes more Lex and Joker. They are still god awful.

That makes more sense. They just only mentioned Zeus and Ares by name and I don't understand why they made Zeus look exactly like Hercules is depicted. But whatevs.

I want to see more of the old gods now though.

I respect the movie. Wasn't the greatest superhero movie of all time by a mile, but it was easily watchable for a 4 hour film.

They changed the flow, pacing and story so much it really was a different film. Worth the watch, but not something to be put on a pedestal.

It's significantly better going from a C- to a B+ but still not remotely in the same league of epic as infinity war/end game.
