the lutheran they are speaking of is universalist, so it actually makes even less sense.
all I'm trying to say is that I think they could have written it in a way that made sense and played those factors without ignoring basic Christianity. the idea of the Church having an official position of having a soul is great and wrestling with that is awesome, but in SO much media, it feels like the writers went to one Sunday school class as a kid and decided that was enough so they are just intent of coloring Christianity and heaven as a merit based system and it's a huge pet peeve of mine.
