Is it me or was Gorr wasted on a single movie? Would have loved to see him in a bigger arc.

Loved this movie. Not as good as Ragnarok but still very good.

Its not just you. They wasted a compelling villian with a compelling motive played by a fantastic actor. Not the first time Marvel has done that, but one of the more egregious.

Best part of the movie - Waititi recapping the past - Thor's backstory, everyone Thor lost,Thor & Jane relationship. Waititi recapping their relationship had more heart and emotion than Thor 1 & 2 combined

Worst part of the movie - Retconning character history in order to shoehorn in political narrative

What got retconned? Their relationship? Thor came back for Jane in the Thor 2 post credit scene, and they were separated by age of ultron.

In the opening scene of AOU, it is implied that the avengers have been raiding and cleaning up Hydra for awhile, so Thor constantly running off and taking Nick Furys phone calls totally fits with the timeline.

He's concerned about them retconning Korg to have a "gay" relationship. The retcon as posted earlier extends to the point of ignoring him talking about his mum in Ragnarok.

In Raganarok, Korg's revolution failed because his mom and her boyfriend

In L&T, Korg has 2 dads

I'm sure this was done for the sake of character consistency and promoting LGBT propaganda had no influence on this decision.

"Hey, kids, did you see those two people made of rocks who fell in love?

Oh, you didn't? Yeah, the scene lasted only five seconds, so it makes sense that it sailed right by you. Anyway, there were these two rock people - rock DUDES, actually - and guess what?!

They're gay!

Yep, there are two guys made of rocks, they're super gay for each other, and we totally felt that the five seconds devoted to them was the best way to try and program you to not only accept the abhorrent, deviant lifestyle of the homosexual, but to try and turn you gay as well. Because gay rock people with New Zealand accents are just the coolest, right?!

What's that? Why would we want to convert children and/or teenagers to be gay? Especially when *we're* the ones who believe it's not actually a choice, just like heterosexual people don't choose to be attracted to people of the opposite sex? Oh, we actually don't want to convert anyone, but there are lunatics out there who think we do - they call us "groomers" - as to try and scare the sh*t out of other lunatics in hopes they'll vote against the people who, ironically, don't care what sexual orientation people are. In fact, the ones who *call* people "groomers" are the ones who care the most, if you can believe it. Yeah, I know, it doesn't make a lick of sense, but hey, what can we do?

Actually, I'll tell you what we can do. Again, here at Disney, out of all the resources and creative minds we have at our disposal, a five-second shot in the fourth Thor movie, of two gay people made of rocks, is the best we can do, and a sure-fire recipe for converting the youth of the world to our sinister gay agenda!

Yay for propaganda!"

As for the movie itself… I thought it was fine. I laughed a decent amount, but ultimately didn't feel much in the end.

Not only did it feel somewhat aimless and scatterbrained, but as I've said a dozen times already, and as has already been discussed in this thread, the MCU itself feels aimless as a whole right now, and this solidified that for me more than ever. To the point where I might not see another Marvel movie in theaters again until GOTG3, as I just don't care about any of this stuff anymore. Not for a lack of want or trying either.

Overall, I can't think of any one thing I'd do differently in this movie, it's just that it mostly left me numb. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good. More than anything, it was like an episode of a Disney+ show stretched to two hours - just as disposable and inconsequential.

To add to that feeling, I saw this at the Chinese Theater IMAX, like I usually try and do for big movies, and the opening weekend, prime-time Saturday night showing wasn't even halfway full. Usually the crowds are absolutely packed and electric for *any* Marvel movie, but for whatever reason tonight was just kind of sad and depressing.

I don't know, I'm sure Feige & co will introduce more of a big-picture focus at some point, and I may re-engage when they do, but until then, I've basically lost interest in the MCU, save for morbid curiosity.

Am I upset?

Of course.

I've been looking forward to Love & Thunder for years, but despite having a significantly more talented cast, L&T is a siginificantly inferior sequel to Ragnarok .

It has large plot holes that ruin the film itself as well as the entire continuity of the MCU .

For example, terminally ill dude could get any wish in the universe, so he decides to die and let his mortal enemy to raise his undead daughter. This not make sense within the context of the film. Moreover, this option has been available since IW. At any point in time, Thor could have used Stormbreaker to undo the Snap or solve a multitude of other problems.

Instead, lets insert the ultimate McGuffin due to lazy screenwriting.

These plot holes were given little concern. However, there was a decided emphasis to change the backstory of a character to unnecessarily insert propaganda.

Hypothetical scenario: What if instead Korg managed to survive a failed abortion? It would still be blatant propaganda, but at least it would be consistent with his backstory (conflict with his mother).

Would you criticize the film for inserting propaganda or would you still get angry at anyone who questioned the film

I would still criticize it for inserting propaganda while ignoring major plot holes in the script. I suspect you might agree with me if the roles were reversed.

Let Art be Art. Leave mindless propaganda to Ron Burgundy in Chief.

"Let Art be Art" he says with a straight face. When art - poetry, music, movies, etc - has been one of THE most agenda-driven mediums in all of human history. ESPECIALLY comic books, whose most famous characters - Superman, X-Men, etc, were *literally* created as socio-political commentary and allusions.

I just wish you guys would *at least* admit to thinking that gay = bad. That way we can quit squabbling about all this other nonsense and get right down to it. Because the *only* people who complain about "propaganda" are people who don't like what said "propaganda" is purportedly peddling. You're not complaining about the "screaming goat agenda" or the "shadow monster agenda" or the "naked butt agenda," even though all of those things had more screen time. Nor is it that you want to be the ones to introduce your kids to the concept of gay couples, and it's certainly not that Disney and the like are "shoving" something you tolerate down your throat. It's because you think gay = bad, most likely because of some twisted religious ideology, or that it simply makes you feel icky, and therefor you don't want something icky in your popcorn movie. Otherwise, why would it possibly matter? Because to rest of us, who make up the vast majority of the world, it doesn't matter in the least.

Either way, grow up.

Good job ignoring the legit criticism of the major plot holes that undermine the entirety of the film

I agree with every plot hole / narrative critique you mentioned. I literally *just* explained how the movie basically did nothing for me.

What we've specifically and obviously been talking about, however, is that you're ALSO stupidly upset at some kind of "gay propaganda."

In other words, you complained about "gay propaganda." Someone called you out for complaining about said "gay propaganda." You then listed a bunch of other stuff in the movie you were upset with, and then doubled down on the "gay propaganda" thing again. So *I* then called you out for complaining about said "gay propaganda." Ha, and then your response just now was to reprimand me for not agreeing with your other critiques of the movie? When they have nothing to do with what we're talking about? Huh?

Hahahaha, what a deflect.

Korg mentions his mom in Ragnarok so I think there are female kronan too. But you just gotta accept a quick gag when you see one, like Bao the dumpling god. Taika throws all kinds of bits in there - they won't all be home runs but they're so rapid fire that it's hard to be mad about one. Like the shake weights in Ragnarok.

The sword cursed and infected him, but was keeping him alive as long as he carried it, right? or was it slowly killing him either way but destroying the sword made his death happen faster?
i remember someone (maybe Valkyrie?) saying the necrosword had "infected" Gorr, but i don't remember whether it was keeping him alive or not. that would have been an opportune time to add 20 seconds to better explain the sword and its effect on Gorr.

and to your points raised earlier about whether Gorr would really believe in Eternity or not right after his god failed him, i chalked that up to the sword as well. as though the sword itself had a purpose (kill all gods) and infected and was using Gorr to do that. but i have no clue if that's right or not...maybe it's in the comics?

Very mediocre marvel movie IMO. Tried to cram in way too many jokes. Bale was the best thing in the movie. They could have used more of him and less schtick. The Jane cancer plot was weak. Probably my biggest gripe of this one and the first two Thor films is that Hemsworth and Portman have zero chemistry together. They are both good looking people who don't really seem to be into the other. Hemsworth has more romantic chemistry with Pratt than Portman.

But hey, Roy Kent.
i like Portman as an actress. but when they added Taika for Ragnarok, that was a decidedly different tone and feel for the Thor franchise and frankly, not one that suits Natalie Portman very well. Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson and Taika himself just work so well together and Portman just doesn't fit as well. So it's like almost every scene she's in belongs in a different movie

BIPOC Representation has significantly improved in other Marvel properties, for example Ms. Marvel…

Why couldn't the screenwriters consult with Bisha K. Ali and other BIPOC showrunners before casting was complete, and final edits of the script?

Taika is not above making a retcon for a good joke or movie. But hey - just because it takes two dudes to reproduce doesn't mean Korg can't also have a mom. Maybe his dads died and a woman raised him. Who are you to take that tragic backstory from him?!

Side note: the only thing I'm a little disappointed in is that Valkyrie didn't get much to do here. She kinda tagged along, confirmed that she runs from her past because the pain of losing a loved one, and then stays home for the finale.

Another side note: I'm glad that the Jane storyline was wrapped up. People freak out at the possibility of women/minority characters replacing the OG6, but at least one of those original members is still going strong, with no replacement in sight.

Also, just because you don't like or agree with a story or character choice, doesn't make it propaganda.

I guess nobody caught that Heimdall's son Axel is trans. Astrid is a female Viking name (means beautiful god).

After sleeping on the movie…

Very surprised Jane died in this movie. I thought she was coming in for a few movies to replace Thor on Earth while he travels the cosmos. Wish I could have seen Valkyrie be a badass. The movie was a ton of fun but very shallow. I felt like story was sacrificed for humor, or maybe they just weren't able to fine tune it because of the pandemic and delays.

I do wonder how many more times Thor will show up in Marvel movies, but it seems Hemsworth is having a blast playing the character.

Valkyrie is bi, I think. When this movie was announced, Tessa Thompson said Valkyrie would be looking to find her queen in this one. But that never really happened.

It's a little puzzling to me - I guess the screen time went to Thor, then Thor, then Gorr. Anyone else kind of got the shaft. But if there were 3 characters that needed to carry this thing, it was those three, so I'm mostly fine with it.

I like Taika, loved Ragnorok, and liked this movie....but looking at how superficial this movie was, how he's turned Thor into an airhead, how substance was sacrificed for comedy.....yeah, I think I'd like to transition the next Thor movie to someone else.

Thor was always an airhead!!! he was always the jock bro. loki is the clever one and he's the dummy with a heart of gold. This was a return to his actual character.

I think my favorite thing about this movie is that he felt the most authentically Thor. The dumbest thing about Ragnarok was that he was suddenly super smart and witty and it wasn't the same character as the rest of the movies.
