I can't wait for the D&D movie. It's by far the most serious attempt at using the source material, with budget and a good cast. I think it will be lots of fun, if nothing else. Wish I was gonna be near my gaming friends to all see it together.

Stranger Things is a huge part of it, and the fantasy revival in general, but don't underestimate the actual gaming community in this. D&D does over a billion dollars a year for Hasbro. Critical Role has 1.2 million followers just on Twitch. Roll20, the top virtual tabletop, has over 10 million users and about 60% of games played are some flavor of D& D or other. It's never been bigger.

The Princess Bride is an all-time classic, but I don't consider it a D&D movie. At all.

Fair enough. The Princess Bride is withdrawn and replaced by Dragonslayer.

I just looked at the two trailers again. i'm definitely in for what will probably be a CGI pile of dragon crap. By Thor's Greasy Beard I hope I'm wrong.

Theaters are going to be full of single seaters for this one. Its not exactly a date movie.

Despite admirable efforts at better inclusion in D&D, I think you're a lot more likely to encounter White Puddings at these shows.

Pine rarely makes bad movies, and is someone who seems like he seeks out/appreciates a great script, if not a clever/funny one (WW84 notwithstanding, as that was most likely a contractual obligation, or at least trust in a director who made a great first entry). In other words, him being attached to this told us from the jump that it was likely going to be a step above, and it's looking like that was definitely the case.

Pine is one of those actors that I won't list in my top ten or anything but when I see him listed in the promo material I always think, "Yeah, I'll give that movie a try."

Written and directed by John Francis Dailey and Jonathan Goldstein. Once I saw it was them and the good reviews started coming in I changed my mind about seeing it.

I have barely played and something like Vox Machina still lands extremely well for me. I doubt they go too crazy with references.

I'm watching Stranger Things from the beginning with one of my kids and last night we watched the one where Dusty busts out the D&D Monster Manual to show everyone the MInd Flayer. My girl freaked out when I showed her I had the same book in my desk

Made me look up and nerd out some of my other favorite offerings.

The movie will certainly stand on its own and require no knowledge of lore to enjoy, but there will be plenty of nods. Got one such spoiled for me today that is pretty great.

Stranger Things created a resurgence. But kids are playing it again.


My son is in an after school nerd gaming club. He and his buddies play D&D.

He has his own 20 sided dice.

I love it coming back.
