how did you guys learn to play 1e?

I bought those guidebooks just to have them and flip through them and the rules read like VCR instructions

At that point, it's just another video game. I really don't think that's what the community wants.

It will be more like a video game in many ways, but it's still different in that it's intelligent and infinitely responsive. You'll still have a DM as storyteller and referee, though you'll have fully automated versions of that as well.

And it's definitely NOT what the community wants TODAY but it will be. The expectation that the game will stay grounded in physical books is asinine. Not when fully integrated digital platforms will exist that anticipate your needs and put all the information right in front of you at all times. Kids just learning the game today will have WILDLY different expectations of how they consume and use information than the current keepers.

Paizo is pretty well integrated with Foundry on the VTT front. And I don't think a company that happily gives away all of its ruleset through places like Archives of Nethys is concerned with monetization and micro transactions like WotC is.

Paizo does a good job integrating with VTTs but a really good SRD isn't going to cut it. There will need to be ground-up integration of all products on a data backbone for it to really be what it can. Paizo is really good at what they do but I don't see them creating their own digital platforms. Not yet, anyway.

Saw this tonight, what a fun movie. Loved the surprise cameo in the middle as well.

I've never played d&d but enjoyed the movie and the theater was packed.

Had a blast watching this with my kids today. We were all laughing. And I have no idea how to play D&D… it was just a good movie

Think we enjoyed it more than Shazam and probably more than Mario. Btw, most of the smaller theaters were very difficult to find seats. This one has got some staying power.

Saw it on Paramount+ this weekend.

Enjoyed it, funny, action, little bit of drama. Great popcorn flick.

There's talk about a sequel. Really fun film.

I loved it, thought it was the best 2023 movie I have seen so far.

I wonder if TPE left out of embarassment of how badly he whiffed on this thread title.

Was there ever a Community reference? When they play D&D might be my favorite episode.

This community episode was better than the movie for me.

Yeah my family all enjoyed it. I wouldn't mind a sequel.

For reference none of us do D&D, were just looking for something fun and saw it was on streaming.

I just came to add my name to the list. Don't know much about D&D other than what they touch on in Stranger Things. But last week I sat down and gave this movie a try and was happily surprised with how much I enjoyed it.

Really, really fun movie. I loved it. In the arena, when they panned over to the other groups they were competing against...this was me:

I was not aware Hasbro owned this property now as I really only pay attention to the D&D video games these days. On that note, this movie made me want my character to be a Paladin (#nohomo) when I eventually play Baldur's Gate III.

As a first edition D&D veteran from the mid '80s, your vision here has me intrigued. Even thinking about or finding other dorks to play this pen and paper is just not in my scope. However, being able to try and play on a digital platform that is closer to the original game vs a video game (like Baldur's Gate 1-3) would be something I would explore.

I think I played from about 6th to 8th grade. Then I discovered tits and beer.

But it was fun for awhile.

Ehhh, not really. Actually, it was the exact opposite of bad. But you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

This is one of my most favorite movies I've seen in awhile.

The humor was on point and it had an interesting storyline.

I watched it on a flight to London and then on the way back to catch the jokes I missed the first time.

I hope they make a trilogy out of it.

It was ok, but given the source material, it was a massive wasted opportunity. If you are going to resurrect a worldwide phenomena franchise, using a corny, mainly meh, mildly amusing spoof show to do it was a mistake.

I grew up playing RPGs. You spend a Lot of time indoors in the winter. If you see it through a prism of a 10yr old as the writer, maybe. Huge wasted opportunity.
