I think the last trilogy of star wars movies shows that you don't have to keep the original fan base happy and you can still make billions.
Not saying this is what ROP is doing. Never read Simillarion, so I don't really know or care what is different. So far the show is a decent Amazon watch imo, but I liked shows like Reacher better. I would probably like this show a lot better if they nixed the hobbits completely and gave that screen time to the black elf storyline, as he's the best part of the show so far imo.
But when you have name brand recognition, and you have tens of millions of people worldwide constantly demanding more content from streaming services, you can be a lot less caring about how faithful it is to the source material.
