Spent most of the episode thinking it was one of the best hours of television I've ever seen. By the end, I think I've decided I'm done with the show.

Credit to the show runners for not setting the Jackson Hole infected raid in the middle of the night.

That entire scene, I just kept thinking "so now they have to deal with a prosthetic the rest of the show?" Thought never crossed my mind that it'd end the way it did.

For me, that was "Red Wedding" level.

The one thing I knew about this series going in was that Joel died. Did not know the context.

That still sucked.

Hats off to Bella Ramsey in that last scene. Like her casting or not, I FELT it when she was crying out in anguish. She may not look the part of Ellie (I don't care either way, as I never played the game), but she's a phenomenal actress.

Random store in the background had an Ace Hardware sign lit up: made me laugh.

Chain link scene super intense

One bloater can breach the wall?

Opening with a kneecap was crazy Abby. Some great anger acting by her after that too in her speech.

The Walk Through the Valley song played after Joel's death was sung by Ashley Johnson, the voice of Ellie in the game.

Joel's, Dina's, Ellie's, and Jessie's horses were ridden to the lodge but only two were ridden back?

Props to the show runners doing the zombie invasion at day instead of night to cut corners.

It's been pretty clear that this is Ellie's story and show. Didn't think they'd kill off Joel before there was some kind of reconciliation between them. All in all a fantastic episode, but I'm not particularly excited to watch a season of Ellie vs Abby the rest of the way.

Excellent excellent episode of television. Definitely going to rewatch this week. Excellent acting, excellent story, excellent effects, excellent cinematography. A+++ all around.

Only question: what happened to the other two horses???

That was dumb and excessively cruel and I don't like this show anymore.

Also, I don't care if that's how the game did it, it was terribly written in terms of ridiculously convenient coincidences.

That said, the storming of the town was incredible and gave me my first hit of Sunday night, Game-of-Thrones-level terror in years.

But seriously, like others here, I don't know if I want to watch anymore.

So this is the new "Negan kills Glen" moment for tv (only with 11ty billion times better everything)?

And just think, they've already greenlit season 3. I seriously can't believe they did that so early in season 2 to Pedro Pascal's character and non-gamer audiences.

Hell, it's still too early in the series to be doing that for the gamer audience imo unless this was just going to be a 2 season show.

That Abby trying to escape scene was scary as hell though. But even knowing the full story my interest moving forward is pretty much shot unfortunately.

Fk me! That was crazy. The anxiety throughout the entire episode was legit. Only negatives was Abby's acting. And as TC said all of the coincidences was a bit much to bear. But knowing it is an adaptation and accepting that, the dramatization was off the charts. No way not finishing this.

(Spoiler, Joel comes back as an infected after being buried, but Ellie lets him drink her blood and through pure bad-assery beats the infection and becomes normal again).

For all those jumping ship, recommend giving it another episode or two at least.

What follows this series of events from tonight's episode in the game is an absolute masterpiece in storytelling and gameplay. I hope the show can replicate that. It is that good.

This.

Been avoiding posting on this thread but I figured there'd be folks ready to stop watching after this.

Keep watching…that is all.

That's good to hear, at least.

Mainly, it's just that the timing feels so gratuitous and done more for shock value than anything. I'm not against killing off Joel in theory, but IMO it should have been a season finale kind of thing and not in the second episode of season two. I knew he was a goner, but I thought for sure Abby's season arc would be hunting him down, infiltrating the town, then finally getting her revenge toward the end of the season. Instead, this just felt like torture porn/shock value bull****, all due to the most stupid coincidence ever.

Also, why let Ellie live?

Abby & co being Fireflies, and Abby's father being the doctor actually performing the operation, she HAD to know what they were doing with Ellie/how special she is.

Granted, at the lodge, Abby almost assuredly didn't know that was Ellie, but the bond Ellie shared with Joel in that moment should have at least tipped Abby off/made her curious.

I know they only planned to kill Joel, and they otherwise live by a code or whatever, but that feels like yet another massive plot convenience.

They said it earlier in the episode. She has a code to never kill people who can't defend themselves.

Right. Which I literally acknowledged. But that's awfully convenient plot-wise, in the face of being able to save the world with Ellie's body/blood.

Well it was awfully convenient that Joel let the nurses live, too.

I knew the second that happened that was gonna come back and bite him.

The others with Abby didn't want to kill anyone other than Joel. I guess you could argue that if they just kill everyone and vanish, There is a good chance the people in Jackson would never know who did it.
