Did we notice that the opening of the show where the fungus grows has changed?

Previously it ended with two horizontal figures, one large and one small, to represent Joel and Ellie.

This week it was just one small figure.
Yup, thought to look for this and noticed at the end of the title sequence. Great little detail.

Why would Ellie's immunity as a plot line be "abandoned" just because Joel is dead?

Based on previews, my guess is it comes into play as soon as next episode. We see Dina with a look of fear on her face, gun pointed at Ellie, and Ellie begging her not to shoot. My guess is Dina sees Ellie get bit, thinks she's about to turn so she's going to shoot her, and Ellie has to confess about her immunity. I can't think of any other reason Dina would point a gun at Ellie like that.

Let's talk Seth.

In some of the comments here, and in the "making of" after the show, and in the podcast (which I highly recommend), the sentiment of "Seth's defending Joel and backing Ellie is SO SHOCKING FOR THAT BIGOT!!!!"

I don't know. Maybe it is that I'm closer to Seth's age than Ellie's. Maybe it is the world I grew up in as a small town Texas boy in the early 90s and a Corps of Cadets member in the late 90s. I don't know.

Seth got drunk and said something really mean. That's not great, but I'd wager most of us have been there. He may well never approve of Ellie's sexuality, but knows enough to just be like "whatever, live and let live" when he isn't unduly influenced.

Seth is a hard worker and a realist. He likely grow up in the shadow of Vietnam and was an adult during the heart of the cold war. Seth has obviously lost people and has been hardened by it, but he loves his community and knows that this "little girl", despite some personal areas he doesn't like, is right about the threat facing them.

In short, I don't find Seth's actions surprising at all.

We are in the modern age that if you **** up there is no forgiveness. You are terrible no matter what. I felt like what transpired in the show is much more true to life than what many of that political persuasion would like to believe. I know too many people having lived in Seattle that cut ties with family over less than what Seth said one time drunk

Yeah, people outside Seattle are so much more forgiving when it comes to slurs.

In one episode we go from Abby and the wolves not attacking those that can't defend themselves to massacring a cult group and little girl with a hammer?

Exactly why I don't believe it was the wolves that did it. They're trying to make you think it was the wolves, which means it wasn't.

Buddy with the Joker-style mutton chops interpreted the whistle as "Wolves" when his littler girl asked if they were running from demons. Yall think there is a group running around impersonating the Seattle WLF group? Or maybe this is a "Gunslinger" situation and the WLF turned out some folks that still have the gear but operate like the raiders.

Literally no idea. And asking is a big invite for spoily-types to give not-so-vague hints.

But Abby's group doesn't SEEM like they'd be down for braining kids and people with bows and arrows.

Without knowing anything about the game or bigger picture, it seems very realistic that there are multiple groups out there running around with a variety of intentions that aren't known by other groups.

In a society with no central information source there has to be tons of rumors/stories/misinformation floating around as well as lots of partial knowledge. Even within an organized group like the WLF you might have people with generally positive intentions as well as those who are more radicalized and believe in doing anything for their particular cause.

Yeah, I don't trust anyone when it comes to stuff like this. Someone on Reddit or Screen Crush or whatever could say they haven't looked at spoilers, but who knows? They could just be trying to be collect clout for having accurate "predictions."

Concerning the episode, the funny thing is that you see all the troops, you know what Abby did, and then you have the cultists running from - and presumably getting killed by - the "Wolves" and you go in with the notion that the troops are bad guys. Could just as easily be that Abby and her band are part of the bad "Wolves" and not the real WLF group.

Anyone that watched Season 1 would know that each QZ had factions surrounding them that battled FEDRA and/or each other. The Seattle QZ is the same, stands to reason that WLF and the other Seattle group(s) are still fighting each other whenever they cross paths

Good lord that was one boring ass episode of television. And Dina is way out of Ellie's league. This show sucks.

This was some of the most beautiful cinematography and directing I've ever seen. The seamless transition between Dina chewing the cookie and immediately seeing the cows chewing cud speaks volumes to the viewer.
Two living organisms each trying to make their way in this post apocalyptic world, chewing food for sustenance and pondering what their futures have in store for them

That was just absolutely beautiful

A better episode than I expected.
The wandering Hammer Tribe cracked me up. They have developed their own culture in 20 odd years, with ritual facial scarring, women's Ukrainian hairstyles, a nascent religion, hammers for defense/identity/right of passage, and a very loud whistling signal system (which seems dumb because you alert enemies to your presence while blasting out the "all-clear" signal) I'm just surprised the bad guys didn't capture the women, because, well you know. Cynthia Ann Parker.

Got me for another week.

I mean this was a pretty powerful scene for me.

Also, Merced as Dina is the best actor this season by far. Think it will be between Dever and Merced

Pros:

- Set design and photography were phenomenal. TV Station bodies and subway scenes were shot so well. Almost exactly like the set pieces in the game
- Merced is a really really good actor
- WLF/FEDRA flashback with Isaac and Josh Peck! That was awesome
- Bella did a decent job singing AHA's hit

Cons:
- Merced as Dina is so good she is overpowering Bella. Bella quickly needs to act with more bloodlust. Her faces during the subway scenes were pretty cringey. She just does not seem as mature as Ellie should be. She was portrayed as having no situational awareness which is far off from her source character
- I agree with the placement of the sex scene being off. Showrunners ****ed that up. It was much more naturally placed in the game. Not sure why they opted for right there at that moment

Yeah… Bella is fighting an uphill battle here. I really do think the showrunners could have found a much closer match after 4 episodes in. She's not terrible, but was a much better fit for S1 and the other actors are much better than her on screen in shared scenes.

I actually looked up if it was based on a real record shop, and it didn't appear to be. While I know there have always been record stores, the CD and iPod were king in 2003.
