Fine.

If, when this game was developed, fingerbanging sequences is what it to took to hook gaming nerds, I get it.

I think it's just been done too often. Trust me… if you told even 30 year old me I'd be tired of chics kissing on tv, I wouldn't have believed it.

If Buffy and Faith had made out I would have given the Robert Redford/Jeremiah Johnson nod, but now…

Are we to believe that a 5' nothing, 100 lb girl can tackle a 6'3" 200 lb dude and then hold him down long enough to knife him in the neck? Done with this show lmao.

I am going to guess that the female spirit and blood that the scars worship is an adulterated hand me down rumor born version of Ellie and her saving blood.

What a great monologue about saucepans. Jeffrey Wright did so well to make something about cookware so menacing.

I though Dina was pregnant after she threw up at the hanging bodies.

Serenade scene was beautiful. Visually and audibly. Well sung and played by Bella.

A couple of great lines:
A lot of times I wish this wasn't true, but I'm going to wake up exactly as I am...me
I'm not brave, just obvious.

the pregnant chick hooked up with the down syndrome lesbian after she got bitten, like wtf is going on here? I know Ellie is immune, but gross. Yikes.

We've been having folks come over to watch on Sunday nights, and the consensus is that this show just isn't very good at the moment. A couple of things that came up after the show was over:

(1) Weird decision making. They climb to the top of the train car, then climb into the train car, run through the train car, then to narrowly escape by climbing on top of the train car. If they had to do it because they needed to get out of a tunnel or something, I didn't catch it. Just felt contrived solely to make things intense.

(2) I don't care about the sex scene, but the timing of everything just seemed very odd. There's an attack, they get through the turnstile and seemingly into the next building. Then suddenly, it's "I'm going to go to sleep in that chair and you can shoot me if I turn." What about the swarm of zombies or WLF patrol next door? We're not worried about that anymore? Alright, so then she wakes up, and it's, "You haven't changed, I'm pregnant, let's immediately get it on."

(3) How about more than 20 seconds with Jeffrey Wright chastising them for calling them voters to set the stage for the flip from FEDRA to the others? I didn't even clock that that was a flashback at first. They just jumped straight from that to him torturing the cultist. When the victim wasn't on screen, I thought it was the FEDRA guy they pulled out.

(4) And the cultists? Last week, they were innocents that were murdered in the forest, but now it's "when is their next attack" and they kill kids and gut people. Supposedly the WLF are incensed because kids were killed. What is going on? And not in an interesting "Ohhh, this is more complicated that we thought" kind of way. Just confusing like "What is this narrative?"

(5) The plot armor surrounding Ellie now is insurmountable. Without Joel, the show has to protect Ellie at all costs. She's never going to be in any real danger, and that's because they show hasn't spent any time with any other characters, save Dina. GOT is the popular comparison for taking out major characters without remorse, but GRRM's writing and the first season of that show gave us investment in a ton of characters.

Ultimately, I think that's the problem; this is a single-person video game. By design, there's only really one character and it's the one the user controls. Everyone else is ancillary. And the decisions that create exciting gameplay (i.e., jumping into the train car), make for weird decisions in the story.

This is the root of most if not all complaints about the story thus far.

But I will say, if the opening scene of the season where Ellie was training didn't clue you in that that's exactly the type of **** she was gonna be doing this season, then that's kind of on you. That was obviously setting up her being able to do it in last night's episode. And there's gonna be a lot more of it I'm sure.

You should probably just drop the show now if it's gonna keep bothering you.

1) It's an action show. See my post above.

2) Completely agree.

3) Sorta agree. We need more Jeffrey Wright because he's awesome. But I had no trouble seeing the passage of time between scenes at all. He's thinner, his beard is grayer, he's battle scarred.

4) We saw a BAND of the cultists trying to escape. We were led to believe they were peaceful, but that was rather quickly corrected. Plus, the captured guy threw shade at cultists who weren't as hardcore as him; "heretics". The escaping band might well be heretics....dad seems to imply that (before getting capped).

The captured guy and Isaac discuss the fighting. "You broke the truce, we broke the truce, whatever, we're at war". Ellie and Dina have inadvertently entered a war zone.

They do have to be careful here. Walking Dead kept introducing different group and it got super repetitive and boring. But thus far, TLOU >>>> WD. Also, on the podcast (again, it is really good), they say we'll learn more about this war later.

5) I hear you, but that's the story. Sounds like this will be 3 seasons and that's it, so much more narrow than GOT.

Narrow stories are PROBABLY easier to do well end-to-end. See Breaking Bad vs GOT (or WD).

The Jiu Jitsu didn't bother me. It was the train scene that bugged me. Still, you're probably right. It won't be appointment watching anymore. I'll probably just wait and see what everyone is saying when the season is over and then catch up if the consensus is that it's worth it. Just makes me sad because I enjoyed the hell out of season one.

For me the my eye-rolly thing was asking the viewers to switch from seeing Ellie as a whiny, angsty teen to a parent in the span of 2-3 episodes. Really?? We go from her giving Joel the silent treatment and sparring with a bigot for calling her out at a dance, to expecting to take her seriously in raising a baby?

Agree. She did go from "You love me too!" to "I'm going to be a Dad" very fast.

It seemed very odd to me. Partially b/c I think it was a "yes, the hero is going to be a butch lesbian" moment. Then with all that going on, I could kind of see a movie or show turning it into a hookup scene if it were a guy/girl, as unbelievable as it would be. However, I couldn't see it being a hookup scene if Dina was telling the guy she was pregnant with some other guys baby in that moment, which is essentially what that was. I guess the "fun" of it being a more poly arrangement I suppose.

(1) Intelligent decision making while running from a zombie hoard don't usually go hand in hand. I'd think the common training would be (in no order) find high ground, create a choke point, squeeze through somewhere small, climb a fence. Which is what the did to scape in the subway.

(2) 20 years old often have sex in inappropriate times. Dina just realized she fully loves Ellie somewhere during the serenade scene. A few hours later she thought she was going to have to kill her new love. That rollercoaster emotional ride likely ends with "let's get it on before something else happens"

(3) Assuming some flashbacks are coming how he and the WLF became more militaristic.

I struggle to see how the Frank & Bill storyline could've carried the weight it did had they NOT been gay. It almost feels like they had to be gay for the storyline to work.

Let's say Bill was hetero. How does the story go if a woman wanders onto his property like Frank did? The story is about Bill letting down his walls and coming to care deeply for Frank, to the point life isn't worth living without him. If Bill is just a straight incel type.....it's not going to be impactful for him to let his walls down to a hot straight woman. A straight man thinking with his peen when a hot vulnerable woman is involved isn't compelling drama. Yeah, it could just be your average love story, but......boring and overdone.

Okay, so let's say the bill character should be a female and a man stumbles upon her town. We're supposed to believe a straight woman rigged the town and set it up to the extent Bill did? She's a gun-loving, doomsday prepper, possibly autistic, and a good-looking man wanders onto her property and they fall in love? I don't buy that either. Again, another possible boring love story, but I'd have a hard time buying into the image of the strong woman falling in love with the relatively helpless man.

Lastly, let's make Bill a lesbian woman and Frank another lesbian that wanders onto his property. Anybody here honestly want to watch a gun-toting, prepper lesbian (probably not the lipstick type) and her love story? If they're both the lipstick type, we're bordering on men fantasy porn. Nope.

So it almost had to be a gay male relationship.
Maybe I missed if someone mentioned it before in this thread but I just realized on the re-watch that Frank is Armond From White Lotus.

I didn't realize that, mind blown

I get some of the issues people had with this ep but none of it really bothered me. Their hook up did feel a bit forced but I also get it as this massive outpouring of emotions in an incredibly intense situation. And as always, Jeffrey Wright was nails.

I'm intrigued to learn more about these different groups we're seeing and who we start to feel is more in the right or if it's just many shades of gray (I'm guessing the latter).

I had hopes, even after Joel's death. But no, this episode officially killed it for me. I will finish it (damn you OCD), but with full regret. Show runners have pretty much said we're going to show you stupid sht because it is whats in the game, and we don't care if you don't like it. Its crap, its not a game. Really ruined a good thing that was season 1.
