Well that's not too encouraging for the writing to get better...
Even though it's not surprising given the drop in viewership and objective failure of this season… that's still pretty nuts. This property is his baby.

Had the momentum kept up from S1, neither Druckmann or Gross would be jumping ship guaranteed.
Gross did a great job writing TLOU2 (the game). She previously worked on Westworld, which comes with its own controversies.
Season 2 just did not deliver nearly as well as the game did. It was always going to be a challenge, but it was really butchered

And here's the other thing. "The Road" was the inspiration for this franchise. I love it, but no one can really argue that this is a truly original IP.
Agreed. Mazin getting to do his own thing might right the ship as best as it can. It won't fix the casting of Bella Ramsey but if you rewatch Chernobyl you can be reminded of what Mazin can do. I won't get into the stuff about Druckmann and Gross out there but there's actually plenty to be optimistic about if those two are gone.FL_Ag1998 said:boy09 said:

The teen soap opera feel was all Craig Mazin's idea. If you haven't played or watched the game, then it needs to be understood that the tone is wildly different between the two mediums, and not in a good way. The two people who were the creative minds behind the story and actually understood the characters are now gone. I like your optimism, but I can't say I share it.

I've played the first game but not the second (yet). I was OK with the first season of the show, moreso just from pure excitement of seeing my all-time fav game on the screen. But in reality, even the first season left a lot to be desired for a true fan of the game, IMO of course.
I'm not going to argue with you (too much) about the contributions of the various show runners. But I've seen plenty to suggest that Gross and Druckmann were perfectly fine with and a big driving force behind the show's second season diverging from the game. But in truth, I'm just superficially aware of the behind the scenes action on this show so I can't argue with your viewpoint. I just know that I was excited to see Mazin involved because I really liked Chernobyl.
But I guess we'll just have to wait and see if and how the tone changes going forward.
I think that's fair to go off of his prior work, as Chernobyl was indeed excellent. It's a weird situation, and no one truly knows what was going on behind the scenes. I'll be watching either way. Hope it turns out.FL_Ag1998 said:

More than likely, despite my disappointment in Season 2, I'll be there for at least the first episode.

Recent retrospective that mirrored my own issues with Season 2.
Yeah, the fact that so many people who are just normal joe-blows can not only accurately point out the overwhelming flaws in the Season 2 writing but come up with better ways it could have been done, just shows how piss poor of a writing job it was. Chernobyl was good, but maybe that show was more atypical of his abilities as a writer.
Us normal Joe blows stopped caring and watching when the good part of the show died.
Oh, and watching that video gives me more insight into what you were talking about in your earlier posts that said Mazin was more of the driving force in Season two. So yeah, while not fully walking back my criticism of Druckman I think I'm starting to put more blame on Mazin.
I disagree they could've made a good season out of the entire second game, but they could've made a solid 2 seasons out of a game that has 30+ hours of gameplay. That video made me remember just how awful the second season was. So much bull**** and filler that never should've made it on screen. Their casting for Ellie was bad, and abbie could've been done better. They made changes that never should've been made, and killed the story.
