I think what they're saying is they're using F2 cars in place of glorified go karts dressed to look like F1 cars . . . not that they chose F2 cars over F1 cars.TCTTS said:
You are, indeed, correct about them using an F2 car (though it's slightly more complicated than that), which they cover in some detail in one of the questions above. Good eye. It sounds like it has more to do with the camera mounts than anything? I can't quite tell.
You have to be fast 🏎️ Be the first to get your tickets to #F1TheMovie in IMAX, including tickets to the Fan First Early Screenings on June 23, exclusively in IMAX. https://t.co/TtuSipsXwN pic.twitter.com/u9eek2Vb8r

Joseph Kosinski’s #F1TheMovie hits the gas and doesn’t stop. The races are epic, the sound design, editing, cinematography, performances and music are all top notch. You definitely feel shades of TOP GUN MAVERICK in that it plays like an old school summer blockbuster. What a ride pic.twitter.com/XSy4c74Gpe

#F1TheMovie is absolutely incredible. It’s one of the coolest, most entertaining movies you’ll probably ever see, but none of that sizzle takes away from its soul. Kosinski precision engineered an eye-popping, edge of your seat pop epic that makes you feel so much. I adored it. pic.twitter.com/Ff64pAKEJO

#F1TheMovie is the Jerry and Joe Show! Bruckheimer and Kosinski really do make audacious entertainment together. Academy...don't do Claudio Miranda dirty again on this one. Brad Pitt and Damson Idris shine brightest when sharing the screen. Race to see this one in IMAX pic.twitter.com/aO870ttLlU

There was no CGI in this movie!*Ordinary Man said:
As reported by CinemaBlend, Kosinski talked at length about Pitt's driving during a virtual conference when presenting the recent trailer for the film. The director offered a few details about the movie, but also made it clear that months of intense training were necessary in order to get the actors inside the fast cars. The driving had to look real, and this couldn't only be accomplished with VFX. They had to drive real cars
"We actually bought six F2 cars, real F2 race cars, and worked with Mercedes AMG, the Formula One team, and their engineers to build real race cars that could carry our camera equipment, recorders, and transmitters for making this film. So every time you see Brad or Damson driving in this movie, they're driving on their own in one of these real race cars on a real F1 track. So that's kind of how we approached the making of this film."
Joseph Kosinski's #F1Movie is the most exhilarating event of the year that deserves to be seen on the BIGGEST screen possible. It's TOP GUN: MAVERICK meets MARIO KART in all of the best ways.

Already starting a campaign with broad Acadmey members that always vote "pretty" that Claudio Miranda deserves their vote for what he pulls off pic.twitter.com/JYREWWMhuu
I just saw F1 and apparently it’s about race cars and not about a small tornado. But good gosh that was a lot of fun.
