I remember a time when we worried about newspaper stories being biased in favor of major advertisers. We just did not realize the govt was the ultimate major advertiser.

Those are hundred(s) of millions each so it would be a billion, not a trillion.

LOL, yes. And working in partnership with media globally to arrest/censor/subjugate conservatives so the 'right' leftists are maintained in power. For 'democracy.'

Still a ridiculous amount of money. For the government, it's a drop in the hat, and I think the real size of it loses its luster some because of that.

It's not really the amount that is so frustrating, but the harm it is used for that it does globally (here and abroad). The only more harmful spend I can think of is Fauci's Ecohealth grants to Wuhan Institute of Virology to build Covid-19 (and the DoD/State Department ones). That also involved USAID of course too, but was a proverbial drop in the bucket compared to the USAID total spend.

Long video. Again Larry claims to have had Trump's ear about USAID is why I find him interesting. Not sure if true.

Why hasn't a congressional formal hearing on these findings been started? Seems best way to have Trump's back is to open a hearing and get folks to testify on record.

I get it takes time to prepare, but Republican leaders need to get off their asses.

I don't think the rino's really care about helping Trump. Most don't like him.

Think the Rinos will do what they can to slow or stop Trump. Remember they are also profiting from USAID

I think you're both right. Lot's of committee's could have taken some actions by now. The House committee's on (a) Foreign Affairs (Brian Mast, Chairman), and (b) Oversight and Government Reform (James Comey, Chairman) have been…functionally silent.

At least Mast has a hearing scheduled for Thursday. He's been cautiously decent so far:

What's really sad about all this is this is not new. This has been going on for decades right under our noses. Congress did nothing to stop it. No audits, nothing. I think one of the biggest lasting changes we need from all this is to codify in law the DOGE mechanism of continually auditing all these different departments.

Hopefully, the First Circuit was act with dispatch and smack this judge down hard.

Thank heavens this case is not in the DC Circuit.

It's not in the D.C. Circuit? That's what it says at the top of the filing. IANAL.

How do you feel about the possibility that Trump's team expected these TROs would be filed, and indeed, were counting on it in order to get a conservative SCOTUS to explicitly affirm the Executive Branch's authority to manage its own agencies wihout judicial micromanagement?
BMX Bandit

Of course they were expecting it. But I wouldn't say they were counting on it, because the best result would be for no TRO to be entered

I don't think they cared either way as long as they were prepared for it and it appears they were so prepared.

Correct me if I read all of this wrong, but this seems as if it is a scandal that dwarfs Watergate and Iran-Contra by several magnitudes (and we're just getting started!) yet the American public mostly remains either oblivious or in denial (because of TDS).

When people don't protest this scale of corruption it reminds me just how lost this country is. I think Trump knows this (both how lost we are and the scope of corruption yet to unveil) and why he is willing to go scorched earth on literally everything in his way.

He's not waiting around for public support. It's full steam ahead in the limited time he has before the midterms.
Trump will fix it.

What specifically are you referring to here? The way USAID allocated their funding or the judge's potential conflict of interest?

Can a judge be impeached for ruling on a case that has this much conflict of interest?

Everything about it...the corruption/grift itself, the lack of oversight (by design), the complicity and complacency of the MSM and government officials (elected and unelected) to ignore it, the cover up attempts, the conflicts of interest, all of it.

Back then, there were less "distractions". No internet, no social media. Everyone got their news from mainstream media. The public was more tuned-in than they are now.

The general public is just trying to get by. I agree that this level of corruption should garner a more severe reaction but people just expect it from the government at this point.

Representative Eli Crane (R-AZ) has announced he is drafting articles of impeachment against U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer.

Taking to social media platform X, Rep. Crane expressed his dismay, accusing Judge Engelmayer of partisan behavior and judicial overreach that threatens the foundational principles of American democracy.
"I'm drafting articles of impeachment for US District Judge Paul Engelmayer," Crane wrote.

"Partisan judges abusing their positions is a threat to democracy. The left has done "irreparable harm" to this country. President Trump and his team at DOGE are trying to fix it," he added.

Quote:

NEW: In a sworn declaration to the court, Pete Marocco, who oversees USAID for the president, detailed instances of insubordination and defiance related to the president's order to review all foreign aid and pause spending.

Marocco: "I made numerous requests for information about USAID's operations, programs, and compliance with the president's directives. I have consistently found USAID's senior staff were unwilling or unable to provide basic compliance and oversight information.

For example, senior professionals in the finance, legal, and human capital groups were not able to identify who, when, and why dozens of specific multi-million dollar payments were approved or disbursed in the days following the President's directives to pause most USAID disbursements and programs.

This lack of clear or timely information sharing caused grave concern about whether USAID was faithfully following the President's and Secretary's (Rubio) directives. Those concerns were amplified when...agency leadership became aware that a group of USAID employees were not complying with the President's Executive Order and continued to permit new funding obligations paused by those directives."

By Feb 1, the administration had placed 115 USAID officials on paid leave for "noncompliance" and "other acts of insubordination." The plan was for all but roughly 600 of the 4,765 full time USAID employees to be placed on leave as Marocco and his team analyzed foreign projects. That was thwarted by Judge Nichols' TRO. (Marocco also took a swipe at Nichols' unsubstantiated claim that USAID employees "in Syria" faced imminent danger. "To the best of my knowledge, none of these employees were located in high-risk countries, such as Syria." Perhaps Nichols would have learned that had he allowed the DOJ to respond to the lawsuit before issuing his TRO.)

Marocco also identified one USAID employee who defied the directive related to assistance funding for Gaza. ""One USAID employee who broke that chain of command, did not communicate with her immediate USAID supervisor, and attempted to obligate or authorize the expenditure of nearly half a billion dollars in assistance in a manner that was inconsistent with the president's priorities."

As we learn more, Judge Nichols' hasty TRO makes even less sense. He has now placed defiant USAID employees back on the job with no oversight as they contradict direct orders by both the president and Secretary Rubio.

But Nichols claims that the employees are the ones being harmed? Truly shameful stuff. Even if he refuses to enter a preliminary injunction or enters a limited one, Nichols has allowed rogue USAID employees free rein for at least a week to do who knows what.
