definitely need to have your head on a swivel any time around 18 wheelers!

I have noticed the white panel vans for the commercial landscaping and handyman business are some of the worst drivers now!

Well, a self driving vehicle would not have done this and these people would still be among the living.

"Self-driving" vehicles plow into construction areas, people, barriers, semis, and fire trucks with emergency lights flashing.

I'm sure there are some illegal u-turns in there.

if you've ever driven a car in these Third World countries, this truck driver is no surprise. You learn real quick no one on the road follows the rules. The expectation is everyone else just needs to look out.

And then they came here and seem surprised we follow rules.

Numerous studies show they are already safer than humans. They will get even better.

here is one:

https://evmagazine.com/self-drive/waymos-avs-safer-than-human-drivers-swiss-re-study-finds

Quote:

Swiss Re's extensive dataset, which includes more than 500,000 claims covering more than 200 billion miles of exposure, was used as a benchmark to compare human driving performance against Waymo's autonomous technology. The findings are staggering:

  • 88% reduction in property damage claims for Waymo's autonomous fleet compared to human-driven vehicles.
  • 92% reduction in bodily injury claims, further cementing the safety advantage of autonomous driving.

CDL is a WAY too low barrier to entry job

what is amazing is that not only is it illegal to turn on those "government official vehicle turnarounds"

but it seems these idiots simply turned from the RIGHT HAND LANE making a left turn

so that is how they took out a vehicle following behind them.

I was driving in my town many years ago, and ahead of me in my lane was another car. It just stopped abruptly for no reason, nothing in front of it, nothing in the way and middle lane. I almost rear-ended it, I was livid. Then I drove around it to see a scared looking Asian woman driver with an "OMG" bewildered look on her face. I guess something came to her mind and she decided to slam the brakes.

Asian Driver. Woman Driver.
Double the Trouble.

THIS IS SO FREAKING TRUE!!

you Texans are lucky you don't have to experience this phenomena literally every single day in the DC area

between females from China, Bolivia, Gaza Strip, India!!

literally they just stop in traffic!!

I run a frac sand company in West Texas. Easily over 90% of the drivers that come through our facility are foreign and most of those don't speak English. It's terrifying to see how reckless a lot of these guys are.

It's the inbred****ing moron, noble and righteous voters who are to blame (you know about whom I'm referencing). There's no other reason. Until we weed out the idiots... we reap what we sow.

EV Magazine didn't do the study. Swiss Re, one of the world's leading re-insurers, did the study.

Swiss Re is a leading global provider of reinsurance, insurance, and other insurance-based risk transfer solutions. Founded in 1863 and headquartered in Zrich, Switzerland, the company operates through approximately 80 offices in 29 countries and employs over 14,000 people .

If you have something substantive to prove the studies incorrect, I'd be interested in seeing it.

Common sense would say one should not be able to get a driver license let alone a CDL if they cannot speak English.

I'm doing off pad frac fluid imaging right now... During this frac, 2 sand trucks wrecked. One rolled his trailer in a ditch on the lease road (probably passing as the photo showed him on the wrong side of the road) and another overshot the turn from the main highway and put the cab in the ditch on the opposite side of the road.

A single data point is a stupid retort. Humans have been decapitated in accidents with human drivers too.

Do you have anything to prove the study incorrect? Anything?

States should REFUSE to allow illegal immigrant CDL holders from other states.

California is responsible for this.

California is a huge problem. They have been giving IAs drivers licenses for years. And once an IA gets a DL, he can go to almost any state and get a DL from that state.

So glad Texas is cracking down on who can get a DL in Texas. My DL is up for renewal in a few months and it is a little bit of a pain to get it renewed. As it should be.

I did the U turn thing once. In 1998.

I had driven from College Station to Austin for an interview. Rented a little Ford Aspire. On the way back, think I was on I-35 and I had to take a left somewhere to get back to College Station and it was getting dark and I just had a flimsy map. No GPS back then. I felt I had gone too far ahead so I just took the chance and took a U turn like the guy did. Luckily no cops and no accident. I was in a little car so did not like as idiotic as the large ass truck.

The funny thing is you're not even arguing for Tesla or EV's just the fact that self driving vehicles will have a better safety record than humans. I don't know if we're there yet but we will be.

My wife and I drove OTR for 2 mega carriers during COVID: Prime Inc and Fed Ex (Custom Critical). There are a lot of foreign truck drivers out there. There were a number of times where it felt like I had just entered a UN meeting as I walked into the restroom at Loves, TA, Flying J, or Petro.

Many of these foreign people in trucking are a serious danger on American highways. They often work for mom and pop companies who don't vet them. Their trucks are not governed and they often drive way too fast for conditions. They are some of the most fearless drivers I've seen, because they have nothing to lose. They will push a load through the worst weather conditions known to man just to get paid...safety and common sense be damned.

Personally, I think company truck drivers should be paid a salary...not by the mile. I think that would cut down on some of the safety issues. Owner-Operators can negotiate their own terms.

Apples to Oranges. Waymo doesn't do freeways, rarely drives over 45mph. Let them go full autonomous before declaring a winner.

This is another example of a semi-truck company hiring an illegal alien. I hope whoever truck company owner, hiring manager, and CDL issuer are all held criminally liable for these deaths. Five months earlier, Solomun Weldekeal-Araya crashed a semi-truck into 17 other vehicles on I-35 that resulted in 5 deaths on 3/13.

Frac sand drivers, as a whole, are pretty low IQ. 95% of the good, old school drivers are gone now. The money isn't there anymore, outside of the few wells where they are still using pneumatics. Bottom drop and box loads don't pay all that well. The good drivers have moved on. Go coordinate on some wells and you will realize what kind of guys we have pulling those heavy loads on our highways. It's not good.
