He was released in Florida (or not arrested at the wreck, not sure) and fled to California, where he was caught and extradited back.

Indian news be about as good as they tech support.

How does this work? He hasn't been release from jail.

Because he was initially released after the accident and him and the co driver put in a motel and told not to leave the state while the crash was still under investigation and him and the co driver fled to California that night and then tried to leave the country when they were picked up by authorities in Stockton California. The ICE detainer was not issued until four days after the accident when he was apprehended in California. Check the issue date on the DHS website. He is accident was August 12. He wasn't arrested till August 16 in California. Fox News morning show had interviews that explained all that and the timeline. They booked a red eye to California gathered their things and were trying to book a flight to New Delhi when they arrested.

I mean if he was not drunk or otherwise impaired, then I do not think the police would have enough to arrest him at the accident scene. But I am not a lawyer nor a traffic accident investigator.

Conceptually I agree with you, but speculating on why this happened.

Helps if they were to spell his name right. It's Masih, not Mashi. A quick Google search takes care of the rest. And you're out on the right limb.

Merely going after drivers is not enough. Go after the people who hired them - again goes back to the Trifecta of Evil (US CEOs and US politicians). They let these people into the country. Prosecute those who let them in.

I cannot wrap my head around the fact he wasn't arrested on the spot for either vehicular homicide or involuntary manslaughter. Especially considering three people had been killed.

Perhaps a LEO could answer, but I would think absent either some observed action by the police or suspicion the driver was under the influence, then arresting the suspected at fault driver for accidents with fatalities would be a distinct escalation of normal procedure.

In fact, I am not sure how solid a criminal case will be. Just my thoughts on legal process. Morally, I support drawing and quartering this sikh son of a *****.

You sue whomever hired that trucking company. They should have impounded the truck and its cargo and use proceeds to distribute to the victims families.

Its correct to assume you will have a hard time getting through the LLCs, name changes, assumed names and fraud but you can bet someone paid to have cargo shipped. Sue the **** out of them.

How do modern day 18-wheelers not have some kind of warning alarm or auto brake feature for situations like this? Should be required in addition to not hiring POS foreigners to drive the trucks.

If nothing else, this thread explained the appearance of truck stops advertising Indian buffets that I now see on I20 & I30. Couldn't understand how the market supported that over the typical Loves/QT truck stop hot dog station or traditional fast food offerings.

And for the record, I wouldn't eat truck stop Indian food short of you holding a gun to my head...

Allsups is king. And strategically placed. You notice how about the time after you eat one and start feeling it, and need to stop, viola, there's another Allsups.

Not that I ever drove a truck with this technology but IIRC, Meritor had an early warning system for forward collision/blind spot monitoring (blind spots are massive on a big truck). I believe it did have active braking but that was long ago…

Similarly, my last fleet job had installed a system (can't remember the name of it) that would alert if you were following too closely/blind spot monitoring and it would give a harsh audible beep when an infraction happened. It did not do anything mechanically to override the truck's movement.

Wait, low-trust people who form the bedrock of low-trust societies are caught bringing their low-trust culture/values to the U.S. and turning it into the exact same sh***ole they came from??! It is not the soil or the fauna that makes third-world crap-hole countries crap holes. It is the people that make the 3rd world garbage. When you bring in these garbage cultures, you are slowly, by a thousand cuts, turning America into a 3rd-world craphole. I don't value their values or culture. My values/culture made the greatest country on the planet. Gave the world Western Civ. Their values/cultures make countries where people risk getting murdered/raped to get out!!!
