It's sad that Rob Reiner became so weirdly insane about Trump because he directed some really good movies as well as being a good actor.

Reiner was a nutjob LONG before Trump came around.

He was extremely liberal leaning, but I would never say nut job. Seriously he directed some great movies. He just literally became unhinged with Trump.

From 2014:

Quote:

"There's nobody that has ever been more qualified to be president of the United States than Hillary Clinton," he said.

Rob Reiner Says He'll Do Whatever He Can To Help Hillary Clinton Win In 2016

There are many others. Reiner appeared in an episode of The Rockford Files where he played this idiot semi-pro team quarterback who had a mob infested nightclub. He bugged the tables and conference rooms to find out what these underworld characters were saying and to get dirt on them. Some of them found out, burned down the nightclub and put out a hit on Reiner's character and Rockford, because Reiner told the Feds that he gave Rockford the tapes that had all the mob's singing on it.

So prior to the Rockford Files DVD series coming out on Amazon -- probably in the 2002-4 range -- they had a placeholder on the site and I wrote a general review of the series entitled the 10 best episodes of the series. I included the Reiner episode and started out my review by saying Reiner played himself (or, at least someone as obnoxious as he was). I bring this up to say, even 25 years ago, long before Trump was anything but a NY mogul, Reiner was pretty well known as a buffoon when he opened his mouth about political issues. Was he a good director? Sure. Actor? He was OK. But like most of Hollywood, he didn't know macro economics from home economics but acted like he was a poly sci/econ/public policy expert.

This is a terrible outcome

I simply cant imagine matricide or patricide, but it is a thing that happens apparently. The Menendez brothers come to mind.

From what I've read over the years Rob was one of those down-to-earth celebs who didn't think he was too big to talk to anyone; many accounts of someone "low-level" on a set getting to talk with him and Rob appearing genuinely interested in what they were about/had to say.

Politics-wise, I know he appeared many times at the table on Bill Maher's show. Will be interesting to see if Maher says anything about it although I think he may be dark until 2026.

Trump backed Hillary, and her husband, and even said that she was a good SecState.

Reiner was a leftist.

Thus the question mark.

Reports are ages of the deceased match the ages of Reiner and his wife.

And how often are dead bodies found at a house that isn't their own?

Dahmer's house?

Look, I'm not calling you out, so don't take this the wrong way. But why are people prefacing their remarks with this sort of nonsense? NO ONE in their right mind wants this for anyone.

You don't have to admit disdain for Reiner while also apologizing for the way he died. You weren't responsible for either.

Not only that, it entirely possible to like an actor or a director for their on-screen work regardless of their personal politics.

Not trying to derail the thread, but a huge amount of people were and still are gleeful about Charlie Kirk's murder. I think statements like this are not nonsensical, but rather they demonstrate humanity that many others do not have.

RIP Rob Reiner. Nobody should go out that way.

What a sad and horrible thing to hear about. I very much enjoyed him as an actor and director. Sad news.

But it does go to show you that evil and death don't discriminate. So, spend your lives doing something meaningful and loving those around you because rich or poor, the end is coming.

Sheesh I hope so. I think Chris Pratt is hilarious, but I can't imagine limiting my viewing to stuff with just him, Patricia Heaton and Kelsey Grammer.

It's amazing to me how many people have the inability to compartmentalize these things. Much the same way I don't care if my certified electrician is a liberal so long as he is a master of his trade, a sane individual can look at an actor and understand they don't need to agree with the in order to be reverent of their talent and craft. It's pretty shallow.

Archie Bunker was an amazing character!

You know, I was about five when that show started and maybe 13 when it went off the air. I can remember it being on TV at night and a lot of it going over my head, especially the political stuff. But I still remember thinking Archie was funny. Edith was brilliant, and the constant bickering between him and meathead worked well. Even though Rob Reiner became such a putz in later life, but I certainly don't wish him dead.

His father Carl Reiner, who just died a few years ago, played Alan Brady on the Dick Van Dyke show. The show was originally supposed to be with him as the star, but it didn't test well.

A lot of people hated Archie's character, but if you really look back on it now it's brilliant. Because they weren't portraying him as being a really smart guy or being in the right they were making fun of him, but Carol Connor did the role so well that even though sometimes he said things that both right and wrong it was done in such a good way.

I have a lot more appreciation for it now.

I actually liked the Jeffersons spinoff on it. I thought George Jefferson was funny. Again a lot of it went over my head. I even remember in the early years the woman that played his mother was hilarious.

Fun fact. The woman that played Helen Willis on the Jeffersons was Lenny Kravitz' mother.

Now that I'm recalling all this, I feel pretty damn old.

It sounds like we're similar age, and I'm with you in the feeling pretty damn old. But damn, that just means we experienced the best of it all live as it happened.

T&P for Rob and his family. He helped give us all some of the best TV and movie memories.

So sad...I loved him in "All in the Family." Over the years, Archie was proven to be right more than "the meathead," I think. As America turns away from God into secularism, I expect more and more of this senseless crapola..... May God rest his soul...

Reiner for as annoying as he was did offer prayers for Charlie's murder, and actually did want what is best for America.

unlike 90% of the other leftist idiots.

it is an awful tragedy - to be murdered by a knife by your own son and his daughter found the bodies!

my lord that is awful suffering which she will never recover from.

the dangers of drug abuse, mental illness.

this whole thing sounds insane.

I was a little kid at the time, but I only remember Meathead showing up randomly after he left All In The Family. My recollection was that the show dropped off significantly after Mike and Gloria left, but by that point the show had seemingly run its course. By the mid-70s, the country was beyond the turmoil of the 60's and had moved into the malaise of the late-70s. The interaction between Archie and Meathead drove much of the plot.

Horrific story. Sounds like son had battled drug addiction demons for years, a battle that his parents had suffered through with him trying to get him some help. And he murders them in their home. Terribly sad and thoughts and prayers to not only the deceased but to the other three Reiner children and their families who now have to go through a situation no one is prepared for.
