The local office wouldn't release evidence/authority to the FBI. It's all absurd, imho even setting aside my disdain for the FBI.

Trumps longer answer was very diplomatic. Not directed at you, but to those who say Trump lacks decorum, he has shown the complete opposite on this from start to now.

Get Clouseau on the case. Or maybe he already is the lead.

Just curious, why? Law enforcement uses military rank systems. Corporals, sergeants, majors, lieutenants, captains, etc. What should the sheriff's insignia be?

Local and federal guys never see eye to eye. Any chance to mark their territory, both take it.

I'm sure this is the lab the county always uses. I'm sure they do quality work. County may have a contract with them.

Pima County has made a giant mess and looks completely incompetent. But not because of lab choice.

That's a stupid explanation from the fbi. They don't need the local sheriff to release evidence and certainly not authority. They can assume authority and confiscate any evidence. They are the senior law enforcement agency in the country.

See Trumps comments. He has elected not to take it over. Certainly he can, says it should be up to the locals to decide who they want to lead it.

True. But guess they are more concerned about optics. FBI didn't botch this case as much as the state authorities did.

If the Pima County officials want the blame here, so be it. Not at all happy about that but when politics get int the way of criminal investigations, crap happens.

Mark Kelly has been on the ground with some anonymous handler hanging over the Pima County Sheriff, and he's been saying he has 100% confidence in the Sheriff's office handling the case, so I would guess he's the one stirring up friction.

Although others have pointed out that the Sheriff has a history w/ the FBI.

If we assume that there are never any significant breaks in the case, when do you think this story falls off the headlines?

Kelly is unwell. I think we may be seeing what end stage terminal TDS looks like.

The notes are the FBI jurisdiction, The. FBI arrested two people already for fake ransom notes, the notes sent to Levin are scams as well but they haven't tracked down who sent them yet.

The actual crime in Tucson is still Pima County, call it missing person, or homicide, right now it's a missing body, because she's dead as a doornail. PCSO is handling all the physical evidence, the FBI is there to assist. There's no physical evidence tying the emails to her death, missing or whatever. Just words that proves nothing, they never provided any proof of life, just demands and empty deadline. Worst thing you can charge them with is 18 USC 876 Mailing Threatening Communications which covers demanding ransom or threatening injury. Depending on the method and intent, this can also fall under 18 USC 1341 Mail Fraud. Outside of those fake emails what do they have to even prove kidnapping? Nada, zilch, she's simply missing and dead. At this point they have nothing, not even the main charging element for murder, corpus delicti. Those few drops of blood on the porch don't even prove she'd dead, but we pretty much know she is.
