To keep this thread political, life sure must be good for so many people to spend this much time and energy on this case.

Keep that in mind, Democrats, and give a big thank you to your President Donald J Trump!

Will they have to run DNA profiles on the 167 SO employees, 2458 media types and 14 dogs who have contaminated the scene?

I don't doubt they knew each other and the senator obviously knows the sheriff. Just weird to me to give Kelly the spotlight when you know he hates everything Trump and everyone Trump appointed. Not a good way to get the FBI involved early.

As an Arizonan it's sad that a person as horrible as Kelly is our senator. She made a poor, political choice.

The only thing worse than Mark Kelly would be our absentee, useless, inexperienced Governor Katie Hobbs in AZ. I don't think she gets involved in anything; except, fighting rumors that the Cartels bought her off.

Unless you had blood stains or something you think the suspects touched, you probably aren't going to get anything for DNA at the scene anyway.

DNA tech is mostly specific to human DNA so dogs are a non factor.

Sorry but that's incorrect, a skin cell, or a hair will produce acceptable DNA evidence if handled correctly. Humans shed approximately 1.8 million to over 2 million skin cells per hour. This constant process results in shedding between 30,000 and 40,000 dead cells every minute, contributing to a total of roughly 43 to 57 million cells per day. These shed cells make up a significant portion of household dust. Any body fluid, be it sweat, blood, saliva, a tear urine whatever provides excellent DNA evidence, AGAIN if it's handled properly. See the common denominator in this.

In order for it to be irrefutable evidence that will stand up to scrutiny in court, the gathering of evidence has to be done correctly, the chain of custody has to be on point and the lab has to have all the current certs up to date, all those directly involved in the testing as well, and the results have to pass 100% the QA/QC that makes it possible to be matched in the CODIS database for instance. So again the common denominator comes into play.

DNA testing should be left to the real pros, and these third party players should stay out of the forensic evidence business when lives are at stake, or evidentiary validity in a criminal case is at stake. DNA testing even as a novelty business to last as a business model has to be legit, just look at the rise and fall of 23andMe and how it gained popularity because of its at-home DNA testing kits that gave customers supposed insight into their family histories and genetic profiles. Under scrutiny it fell apart turning out to be shoddy testing and pretty much a scam money grab, eventually failing uncer class action lawsuits, data breaches, and bankruptcy and reduced to nothing.

All in all DNA is a fantastic science but it's not for the amateurs, and even the pros can mess it up, and end up being carved up in court by lawyers like Barry Scheck who is known for his landmark litigation that has set standards for forensic applications of DNA technology. In this case Nancy's fate was seal the minute Savannah brought political connections into it and the inept actions by Nanos and company was exposed to a real criminal case beyond rolling drunks at the local pubs or DUI's. The crime scene was tainted disaster from the start and has only gotten worse. From here on out it's luck and theater. They'd be better off investing time in cadaver dogs and wider search patterns, because all the theater going on at the house is just for media show to distract from the fact this case is as dead as Nancy Guthrie.

I'm a DNA forensic scientist. This is my job.

CODIS eligibility rules require that the DNA profile you get be reasonably attributable to the putative perpetrator. You cannot just swab a soccer ball that happened to be at the crime scene for CODIS. There has to be reasonable belief that whatever the DNA profile is from is either used in commission of the crime, was brought or left by the perpetrator, or was touched or handled by the perpetrator. If you can't say that, it's not eligible for NDIS (it might be eligible for local or state databases, but I don't know Arizona eligibility rules and most states follow NDIS rules).

Also, there needs to be a certain amount of DNA present on items to develop a DNA profile. Even though people shed DNA constantly, the shed cells blowing off into the wind onto something is almost never going to be enough to get a useable profile. And on the other end, if you were to try to vacuum up the room to test all the dust you'd get a profile that has so many people in it that it's completely unusable.

Most property crime cases don't get solved with DNA unless the guy cut himself while breaking in or was dumb and left something behind. Cases like this are going to be the same, unless somebody was bleeding, wasn't wearing gloves, or you have somebody to tell you what wasn't there before, DNA isn't going to be much help.

Thanks for posting this up, interesting info. I assume this is to avoid wasting resources and to keep innocent people who may have been near a crime scene at some point from getting caught up in the investigation?

Sounds like casting a wide net with a Google geofence search warrant and catching the phones of people who happen to be driving by.

there is a Netflix series called "Love and Death" about a murder in 1979 McKinney Texas

it was hilarious to see the first scenes after they discovered the body:

about 20 cops smoking cigarettes sitting around the victims living room and other folks wandering around taking pictures and picking up the murder weapon with their bare hand.

I remember in the 70s and 80s there was a lot of talk about suspected cases of spontaneous combustion but most people today believe it was a myth. There were cases of people who died with half there corpse reduced to ashes with the remainder of their body normal and the theory was that a chemical reaction in the body caused them to spontaneously burn at an incredibly high temp igniting the fat in the body.

Magically there haven't been any suspected cases in a long time and it coincided with people no longer smoking indoors in their living rooms.

why would Savannah Guthrie ever go back to work at this point?

she is a multi-millionaire

isn't there something better to do with your time than spend it in New York City

The tabloids say she has been upset that their ratings have been strong without her so could be she is worried they will move on without her

Oh that's not true. Hoda is filling in for her, and she's not coming permanently out of retirement at her age. And if they had the next pretty young star, which Savannah once was, she'd be the one filling in.

Ratings are up because people are interested in this story.
