I've read the bible cover to cover twice and don't recall any specific mention of abortion. But hey, if we want to pick and choose bible verses to justify a modern political position, we can have a field day

"This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live." Deuteronomy 30:19

"You shall not murder." Exodus 20:13

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." Psalm 139:13-14

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." Jeremiah 1:5

"So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them." Genesis 1:27

"Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind." - Genesis 9:6

"There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood." - Proverbs 6:16-17

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute." - Proverbs 31-8

"They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was desecrated by their blood." - Psalms 106:38

It's not justifying a political position. The Bible speaks very clearly as to the taking of innocent blood. As the author of life, I think God has a pretty good handle on it.

And also a warning -

"Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows." - Galations 6:7

Your specific question being "do you see racism?"

Yes, though my personal exposure is often subtle. Primarily India and/or Black colleagues and neighbors being treated different (e.g., a PhD engineer Indian colleague being "randomly" stopped for additional security the 20+ times we traveled through a small, regional airport). Or our white friends with a black adopted son who feel the need to explain how he needs to act more careful when out than his predominately white friends

But if the argument here is to fully deny racism exists, then I'm not sure how to have a conversation

Get it and my friend had a similar issue and he told his son to quit f***ing around…not everything is racism and myself and my friends are at the point of racism fatigue…

Read the backstory - he was referring to racism as a virus. Perhaps a bit heavy handed and awkward as an analogy, but racism appears to be alive and well based on the republican political ads that have been playing recently

No, no it is not…in your everyday world with the people around you, are you seeing racism? I do not…not in my work environment, not in my friend groups, not in social settings…never…I have friends that are all types of races…I work with all types of races…it just isn't even a an issue. I have had conversations with multiple races and their feeling is that this is just made up.

Honestly, I don't care about his context, even saying the words that having white skin is a virus is nothing more than stoking the fire of racism that isn't even there.

If you hang out with democrats you are bound to see a ton of racism.

What leverage do you think he will have once he is a Senator? Will his white skin and the virus he carries with that white skin get it done?

"'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments."
Matthew 22:3740 NLT

Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Christianity is defined by one's relationship to Jesus Christ not by one's political positions on contested social questions.

Jesus said he came to bring good news to the poor, freedom for the oppressed, and release for the captive. He said that when you welcome the stranger, feed the hungry, and visit the prisoner, you are doing it to him. His entire ministry was a pattern of deliberate identification with the people the religious establishment had written off.

Billy Graham preached that. T.B. Maston taught it at Southwestern Baptist Seminary for four decades. Martin Luther King died for it and was called a communist and a heretic by respectable church-going Christians while he was alive.

Heresy, on the other hand, has a specific meaning, much like fascism, communism and other words misused on this board.

It is not a label for Christians who read the same Bible and reach different conclusions on prisons, borders, or how we treat vulnerable people like pregnant women and trans people.

With all due respect, Talarico is not an example of a loving Christian to look up to. To even insinuate that abortion is anything other than murder (short of those mothers who honestly believe their life is in danger, in which case there is nowhere in the US that has banned that), runs counter to 1 Corinthians 13:6

"[Love] does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth."

It is not loving to facilitate or encourage sin in the name of "tolerance." It's akin to tolerating cancer; sin spreads and corrupts.

As for taking care of our neighbors and "the least of these," it's not explicitly spelled out, but it's obvious that those closest to us (for example, the sick and impoverished who were already born here) should take priority. No one needs to tell a mom or dad to prioritize their own children over someone else's, and even Jesus had closer friends/disciples, and began His ministry with the Israelites, knowing full well they would largely reject Him. It is evil to disregard the suffering here out of a campaign to give to outsiders (and out of compulsion, at that). If everyone was already taken care of here, it would be another different story.

Yeah, I am thinking the list of things that would disqualify a dem from getting his vote starts and ends with "they changed parties to R". Anything else, he will find a way to rationalize so he can keep voting for them.

James Talarico, a Democratic candidate for Senate in Texas, once posted information to social media, letting illegal aliens know they could evade detention as law enforcement grappled with a wave of immigration under President Donald Trump's first term.

In a graphic put out by United We Dream, an activist group that supports abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Talarico encouraged viewers not to open their doors, not to sign any documentation without an attorney, to take pictures of ICE agents and to "fight back."

"Undocumented Americans are folks who work in our businesses, learn in our schools and contribute to our communities but lack citizenship documentation," Talarico said in a post to X in 2019.

[19] They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us.
[20] But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. [21] I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.
[22] Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.
[23] No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.

Re: prisons - It's not like our prison system is a model of effectiveness. So agree that "no prisons" is a dumb idea if taken at literal face value. But perhaps there are better ways of reducing crime?

RE: borders - we need immigration at all levels, plain and simple. We should be thoughtful about immigration policy, and we should aggressively deport legitimately dangerous criminals. But I'm all for a more effective and efficient immigration policy than what we have today

Re: Trans - I'll adjust my original comment a bit. I don't think trans athletes should be allowed to compete in sports where they have an unfair advantage. I also think it's reasonable to provide some accommodations like all-gender restrooms so no one has to fear for their children. And I think healthcare options should be available to people, whether this board thinks their gender identity is appropriate or not. But also, the trans thing is blown so out of proportion as to be laughable

what else do you want addressed?

Now that you've clarified and swung back towards the middle *somewhat* how do you support voting for Talarico with these positions? What you've stated here is closer to the Republicans than Talarico (to the chagrin of many Republicans but that's beside the point for now).

His numerous comments are far left wing BSC and take the extreme position.

Prisons: We've tried almost every social experiment under the sun in blue cities to reduce crime without imprisonment. Seattle and San Francisco (two of the most left wing cities in the US) have actually reversed course in the last 1-2 years on a lot of these "better ways" because they don't freaking work. What does work is traditional policing and prison.

Borders: Democrats are pro-open borders; you seem not to be fully there.

Trans: Democrats want men competing against girls; you do not. There is only 1 potential Democrat POTUS candidate who agrees with men not competing against women and that is Rahm Emanuel. Everyone else wants mental insane men beating up on girls.

This topic and who pays taxes are the most gaslit topics the Democrats have. Amazing to me.

We require ID to pretty much exist and do any important transaction in this country, but requiring it for the most important transaction any citizen will ever do it's suddenly disenfranchisement.

But the disenfranchisement only applies to two demos: (1) illegal aliens who can't / shouldn't be voting in the first place and (2) blacks...who the Democrats think are too stupid to somehow get ID to vote yet they also somehow already function in a society that requires ID to do pretty much everything else. Furthermore, there are 5-7 different types of ID that quality last time I checked.

It's pretty simple. To exercise your right to vote in this country, which is a pretty critical piece of this "democracy" Dems are always raging about, you have to be registered. To register, you have to prove that you're 18 or over, not a convicted felon, a citizen, and still live in that precinct so you can't also vote elsewhere /more than once in statewide and national elections.

What possible reason should you have to fight tooth and nail againat an ID that proves the person voting is the person that is registered to vote, other than cheating? It's one of the simplest anti-fraud controls you could implement, and that's how it's done in every other "democracy" around the world.

Power hungry socialist politicians who aren't persuasive enough and whose ideas aren't popular enough to get the citizens to vote themselves into socialist destruction need to things like import goverment dependent poors by the millions with unfettered mass migration because no human is illegal on stolen land and persuade low IQ masses that simple anti-fraud controls are racist voter suppression.

Reading is fine, but you have to study what God is telling you.

2 Timothy 3:16 English Standard Version

16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.

Hebrews 4:12 English Standard Version

12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

1 John 4 English Standard Version

Test the Spirits
4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.
2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.
4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
5 They are from the world; therefore, they speak from the world, and the world listens to them.
6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us.
By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.
