Yep, exemplified by that whole "love your neighbor as yourself" thing
"Love your neighbor" does not mean giving approval and affirmation for sinful behavior.
Treating people with kindness does not mean approval, condoning, or celebrating sinful behavior.
If I know someone who is living in sin, let's say a practicing homosexual, I am not going to curse him out, assault him, or do anything to treat him badly. I'll say hello, chat with him, and treat him with the same kindness I do my best to treat everyone else with. What I cannot and will not do is tell him I approve of his lifestyle.
This.
Jesus welcomed sinners…. Prostitutes, tax collectors and the like. He ate with them. He stayed with them. He spent a huge bulk of his ministry reaching out to them….
But He also told them, "Go and sin no more."
God and Jesus love all of us. Everyone. He wants all of us to be in relationship with Him. We as his children are supposed to treat the world the same way. But we are not to celebrate in their sin.
We, as followers of Jesus, are to recognize sin for what it is. We cannot be accepting of it. But we still can love that sinner. The world thinks because we do not accept that sin that we are intolerant. That is just their ignorance of God's Word…. They cannot accept that we love them in spite of their sin.
It is not being Holier than thou…. I know I deal with sin in my life. I know I mess up daily. I'm not proud of it. And I am regularly asking for forgiveness. But I don't just say, this is how God made me, and you just have to accept my sin, because it's what I want to do…. Everyone has their own struggles they deal with. Doesn't make anyone better than anyone else. But it doesn't mean we have to just accept someone else's sin either….
