Jerry is the biggest moron in sports. He has a head coach with an expiring contract and doesn't appear to know what he's doing for next year yet. The Bears have now requested to speak to McCarthy about their vacancy which means that the Cowboys somehow have managed to not control their own destiny as to who their head coach is in 2025. Meanwhile other teams with actual vacancies are interviewing top candidates.

it's insane. As much as I want to move on from fat mike, we've dug ourselves a hole as the coaching candidacy is trash right now. The ideal thing would be for Mike to go to Chicago and for us to get Aaron Glenn, but we'd have to get so lucky for that to fall into place. And, I like Aaron too much to have him under Jerry anyhow. No good Aggie should be subjected to the Jones family bs.

This is what it looks like when your GM doesn't have a plan or a clue

Mike needs to go... he's done a pretty good job overall, you can tell the team was well coached in many areas, but NOTHING is going to be different if we bring him back next year.

I completely agree that Jerry is crapping the bed and it is VERY likely that we will bring in somebody worse. But we need to roll the dice and maybe Jerry gets lucky.

I've come to the realization, that Mike or no Mike, as long as the Jones's are involved the results will be the same. Will always be a fan but damn Jerry and his family.

As Aggies, we can only pray he offers Sark a mountain of cash to be the HC. That's about the only thing I can think of that would benefit my sports fandom.

Really incredible how the Cowboys have become 100% reactionary on player and staff contracts. I think McCarthy is the least of their issues and would be fine with him continuing. IMO his odds of success (if retain Zimmer too) are better than any option on the market.

Agreed. But they'll find away to screw it up. Likely cuz they have no plan at all and will drag their feet and be left standing at the altar and end up with some retread or someone their familiar with like Kellen Moore.

If I was a coach, I wouldn't want this job. I wouldn't be surprised to see McCarthy leave of his own volition. He accomplished three straight years what Dallas had only done thrice since 1995: win at least 12 games in a season. And he did it with a ridiculous amount of micromanaging and little to no control over his roster.

Yeah, part of me hopes McCarthy takes the Bears job and ****s them into some dumbass hire where they are way late to the hiring trough. I'm 50 years old and my give-a-**** about the Cowboys is at an all time low

I don't think we can make much of anything Jerry says.

That said, I think they are negotiating an extension. But negotiations fall thru sometimes

Been a fan for many years, he's really damaged the brand the last few seasons.

I can understand Jerry getting outfoxed on football matters but I'm still shocked at how a wildly successful businessman like him got absolutely destroyed in negotiations by Dak's team....twice.

If they let Mike go then Jerry will just hire Moore or Zimmer.

Dak's contracts are a stroke of genius compared to giving in to Zeke's holdout.

while I agree that the Zeke deal was even dumber, it wasn't so large as to wreck their cap. Paying Dak more than any quarterback in the league is insane, or simply the sign of an old man who is too old to start over.

This is such a tired argument but once again if you let Dak walk then what? How do you use that 60M to get you a new QB and also win the Super Bowl? Just like the last deal as time goes on Dak's deal will be less and less of an impediment but I've yet to see any armchair GM's offer a concrete championship alternative?

Worn out Aaron Rodgers got 50M, Trevor Lawrence got 55M and the Jags are a dumpster fire, the ugly truth is that you need an elite QB to win a SB but it has to be the right guy and nobody knows who that is until after the games are played.

And I say that as someone who fully agrees that Dak may be the shrewdest NFL businessman of his generation

The one thing I can think is that it feels like when a coach is already picked...but that coach still has a team playing. Goes along with the rumors of Sark to the NFL. I think that would be an awful hire, but Jerry is all about splash.

Jerry supposedly hates paying coaches. He would have to pay around $15 million a year to get Sark or Day. Not sure I see that.

Everybody keeps saying this, but I don't think there is really any negotiation when it comes to quarterbacks. Everybody knows what they are going to get paid. It's just a matter of paying them or not paying them.

Outside of any other circumstances, I don't have a problem paying Dak what he got. He's a franchise QB just a single step down from your perennial all pro guys. Somebody was going to pay him that much if Jerry didn't. My problem is Jerry "playing hardball" and not negotiating this out a year or two earlier to keep the price down. Also waiting until August to sign the contract that everyone knows he was going to sign anyway. The minute last season ended Jerry was completely out of any leverage. So he dragged his feet and whined all offseason instead of just getting the deal done so we could improve in free agency. See also: Ceedee Lamb contract and upcoming Micah Parsons contract

Yeah, this is a weird argument. It's just the going rate for upper-echelon QBs. Dak's contract won't be Top-10 by the time it runs out. There are things to whine about. Dak's contract isn't one of them.

So they are trying to extend him but also looking to save a few bucks (or years) because otherwise it would be done by now. What a clown show lol.

The Dak debate is very tired. Top 15 QB's get paid stupid money. It's called "the way it is". I do have an issue with how long they wait on guys they know they want as they do cost more. However, from the first extension process, Dak's agent has always seemed savvy about the value of waiting. I'm not sure how much earlier they could have done his deals even if they wanted to.
