Wife's plane landed on Houston. Opened up the door to the jetway and the emergency slide deployed into the jetway, jammed the door, and they can't reach the mechanism to deflate it.

They had to bring a set of stairs to the rear of the pane to deboard. Then they had busses to take them to different terminals. Took an hour once they landed to get off.

Sounds like somebody forgot to "disarm doors and cross check".

Who else would it be?

Just when I think they can't make me miss Continental any more they prove me wrong again.

Went through C early this morning, zero issues. TSA was open and fast.

Checked bags at E (Aeromexico employees don't get there till 8:00 though….) then had to go back to D.

The email we got from Aeromexico yesterday said D was fully open…

Oh well should have listened to yall.

The ticket agents are only there for a limited time, because unlike United, some may only have one or 2 flights a day. That is why D can have lines out the door because people show up 6 hours early with 15 bags wrapped in plastic.

Looks like D TSA opens at noon right now.

Had to go to C to check a wild animal. Took 25 minutes in 1k check in, about 10 minutes in TSA pre check.

Arrived at C 7:45. In C north United Club at 8:30. Hard to believe people pay $60 to get their kids into this space for, at most, a couple of hours. 2 families in front of us paid for 1 and 3 kids.

Terminal E all good this morning, Pre about 10 minutes; general wasn't horrible.

Terminal A just now. Clear + Pre Check no wait. Pre Check and Standard guessing 10-15 minutes.

The club crowding is getting dumb. Even after United implemented new rules. Maybe when B opens back up it will help, but that just means they will probably close c33 for a total remodel, and everything stays as crowded

Yeah, if you're a parent and pay $60 per head for an hour or so of that "experience", it's certainly dumb.

I had a colleague who said "people spend stupid at the airport". This is certainly a prime example.

Flew out of terminal C on Wednesday around 2:00. Security took maybe 5 minutes and the C north united lounge was pretty quiet.

Currently sitting in the KLM lounge as I await my flight to Amsterdam.

Dropped bag in D, then through D security. Pre-check closed up shop right in front of me and directed me to standard security.

All in all, only a mild inconvenience. Through the whole process in about 15 minutes.

First time in KLM's lounge at IAH. Trash. Polaris really does spoil you.

Dropped son off at C and Pre was less than 5 minutes. Came in from 59 down Will Clayton which looked much faster than coming up JFK. We left that way and it was backed up coming into airport to the curve when JFK splits A/B and C/D/E.

We dropped friends off for their 7am flight this morning in A, and the back-up driving into the terminal was terrible around 6ish. 2/3 had Clear with Pre and made their flight, but the third had Clear w/o Pre and there was some snafu with TSA screener and she missed her flight home. We thankfully got her on another flight a couple hours later with some scrambling but it was a mess.

Good news for those that plan to travel to Italy, ITA Airways begins nonstop service to Rome in May.

I'll be curious how long that route lasts. Looks like it may be season for vacation traffic. Perhaps I'm underestimating how many religious pilgrimages from Latin America are routed through Houston or am unaware of Eni ramping up activity in the Gulf.

Opening this route is huge, not just for travel to Rome, but to other parts of Italy and even on to other places in Europe that aren't so easy to get to right now.

We went to Sicily a few years ago, and that itinerary was a PITA, not to mention expensive. I played around last night on the ITA Airways site, and that same trip would be a much simpler and better itinerary and significantly cheaper.

Having another connecting airport in Europe, especially one in the southern part of the continent, will hopefully make travel to the smaller (non-hub) cities that much easier.

Very true. Previously you either had to stop at a large US east coast hub to then get a flight to Rome and then another destination in Italy or a flight from Houston to Frankfurt or Amsterdam and that might get you to your final destination in Italy.

Fingers crossed that ~maybe~ this also drives down the cost of flights to FRA and MUC, since potentially you could connect in Rome instead of those two cities.

Probably hoping for a bit much there. More than likely, ITA just realizes they can charge more for their flights.

Seeing how all 3 of those are hub airports for Lufthansa owned airlines (Lufthansa owns ITA), I doubt they are doing it to drive down costs significantly. They probably just want another mid-sized hub in Europe so all their eggs aren't in one basket

This is being driven by LH, and I suspect that taking pressure off of FRA and MUC routes from IAH is part of the decision calculus. I love the idea of a connection out of IAH that gets you to southern Europe / the Med without stopping in EWR first.

I wonder if they'll get more competitive on prices or if a roughly ~40% bump is the price to pay for a non-stop.

I'm a cheap ass, so I would likely get the cheaper United ticket that adds two hours.

If they are the only NS route option, don't count on it to be cheaper than 1 stop options available previously. They are counting on people being willing to pay more for not having an extra connection.

Just did a quick search comparing ITA to United for dates in May.

Cheapest United flight with a stop is $1565. That's for basic economy. Most are are $1800+.

Nonstop on ITA in economy light is $1330.

Interesting thing about the United search...the first 19 or so flights that pop up in the search all connect through US airports. EWR, ORD, IAD, and even DEN.

You have to scroll all the way to the 20th and 21st search results to get the MUC and FRA options. Those are $1565 and $1926, respectively. The 23rd result gives you the Lufthansa flight through FRA (that code shares with United). That flight is $1576 and does arrive in Rome at 1230. The flights at the very end of the search are the ones that include a leg on ITA, and those are all $1600+ to $1900.

I get that you can tailor the search to give you those results first, but the "top" search results United is giving are just janky. Quite a few have very tight connections (1 hour or less). And who the heck would choose to fly from IAH to DEN to go to Rome?!?

Also, the United flight that connects through FRA doesn't get to Rome until 545 pm the next day. There is no reason that itinerary shouldn't get you to Rome by lunch time. It's been my experience that Lufthansa options out of FRA to Italy are terrible.

It will be interesting to see how United offers the ITA code shared flights on its website, specifically if there will be a price difference between United and ITA.

must be the algo seeing all the searches we've done today.

That United flight at 5p was around $1,150 when I searched for it an hour ago.
