Buffalo Bayou. Or 610 East over the Ship Channel.

Is there still a hill at Hermann Park? I used to roll down that sucker every time I went to the zoo or museum as a kid. Probably have to fight off the homeless these days, although they will probably be looking like jack at the end of the shining come Tuesday.

Just had a flashback to my son's kindergarten zoo field trip. We had lunch there, then once they finished they all started rolling down the hill.

Hwy 90 in Dayton. East side of town the road, hill drop off into the Trinity River bottom. Plenty of mowed grass and large area N side of Hwy 90.
Long enough distance you could even have a small ski / snowboard hill.

Don't know if any of y'all follow the winter weather thread over on S2K.. but there are some real butthurt Centex and DFW people on there that are big mad about SETx getting all this snow.

Pretty hilarious watching them try to refute or downplay NWS and some of the other pro-met warnings and statements.

Once Lindner went public with his potentially historic snowstorm statement you knew it was on.

In all the years they've done the brine spray, I've never seen it actually work.
The brine spray stripes really screwed my lane keep assist today coming back from Milam County. I finally had to turn it of.

Is A&M closed this week?
I think it is safe to assume closed for Tues and Wed.

Sam Houston announced Tuesday closure. Nothing on Wednesday.
I'm glad for this, since all three ways to get to the parking garage are up steep hills.

I usually don't mine it so much, but occasionally it can be pretty aggressive in my F-150.

I'm sure glad KHOU out an emergency weather alert for the winter storm, I had no idea it was coming.

SpaceCity on whether to expect a "blizzard"

Quote:

Could it be a blizzard?

This morning I noted how wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph were possible on Galveston Island Tuesday morning with this storm. That obviously begs the question of whether or not this could end up meeting blizzard criteria. That will be hard.

The technical requirements are:
1.) Sustained wind or frequent gusts to 35 mph or higher. (This will be close)
2.) Heavy snowfall or blowing snow that reduces visibility under a quarter mile. (This will be tough)
3.) Three consecutive hours of these conditions. (This will be very tough)

I'm not saying it can't happen, but given how rigorous these requirements are, I have doubts that we'll officially get there. But at least now you know what an official blizzard is. That said, we almost certainly will see blizzard-like conditions on the island if those winds come to fruition and a full changeover from sleet to snow occurs.

Could the majority of the snow/ ice still move farther east before tomorrow night? Like Beaumont/ Lake Charles?
Like a hurricane often does?

Kind of wondering that myself...guess we'll see. The "fun" is supposed to start early tomorrow evening.

If the trends south continue, all the snow is actually going to be offshore. Wouldn't that be about right?

00z GFS also south

A degree or two is going to make a big difference, and final accumulations are going to be very distinct depending on where any banding sets up
