Do your best to make it 3 days a week. When I pushing harder for a tournament, I do 4 days but the risk of dings and injuries goes up (maybe because I'm 53). You're going to be sore for a little while. Just remember to slow down and breathe.

As mentioned earlier, I'm in boxing currently and plan to join bjj later this year, seriously can't wait. What is yall's training frequency?
Starting to do some early planning, I target boxing 3 to 4 times a week, I also love it. I know to ramp up and learn in bjj I'll need to go more than once a week meaning I'll likely reduce my boxing training. Busy job and 2 kiddos at home is making do this early planning lol.

Thanks for the repliessorry for spamming the extra question here.
I train boxing at John's Gym in Austin and don't want to drop that. I'm looking to start BJJ, and Gracie Barra Cedar Park offers a 6am class that fits my schedule, so I'd train BJJ there.
Occasionally, I'd also like to drop into John's BJJ classes when my schedule allows.
I understand I'd need to pick a "home" BJJ gym for belt evaluation, and John's recommended training at Gracie exclusively until I get a few stripes or reach blue belt before cross-training.
Any insight from the pros here or disagree with the approach above?

First class this morning. Wild how helpless I was. It was fun though and I'll definitely be back! Time to practice on my wife

Not sure about that. Dude I rolled with last week knew it was my 5th class and rag dolled me. My gi has it's first blood badge on it now.

- Hyper extended elbow
- Bloody lip
- Swollen likely sprained finger
- Throat feels like Covid
Any other recommendations? Explicit tips welcomed, the generic 'just breath' or 'just show up' is already known.

Don't listen to this guy. Washing your gi removes your knowledge.

If you hear one pop it's ok. Two, probably ok. Three? Maybe tap. Maybe.

Btw reading all the serious suggestions and noting, really appreciate it. Today was really fun, some more stuff made sense. My focus on defense is paying off it seems, was able to survive a few rounds with no submissions aside from a purple belt getting an arm bar on me. My gauge for progress is probably off, but I'm just comparing to my first couple sessions where everyone had their way with me.
