Looks like no jail time for Felton and the NBA hasn't made a decision re: a fine or suspension

Probably a good trade for both teams. Dallas desperately needed to upgrade defensively. Plus Carlisle knows he can work with chandler.

I'd like to see the Mavs go after Lual Deng at small forward. Re-signing Marion to a discount would be nice and then let him come off the bench. I don't know if he would be into that though. The Mavs could still use some shooting as Ellis, Felton and Harris don't scare anyone from the perimeter.

I don't care about age, salaries, stats or any of that right now. Dirk and Tyson get to go to battle together at least one more year and I love it.

http://mweb.cbssports.com/nba/writer/ken-berger/24597622/mavs-upgrade-roster-with-chandler-keep-max-slot-for--melo

quote:
Chandler and Raymond Felton go to Dallas, which sends Jose Calderon, Sam Dalembert, Wayne Ellington and Shane Larkin to the Knicks, along with the 34th and 51st picks in Thursday's draft.

The Mavs add about $3 million to their salary obligations for 2014-15, but here's the catch: With Chandler back in the fold and the possibility of Dirk Nowitzki re-signing on a multi-year deal that could substantially reduce his $24 million obligation for next season, the Mavs are on their way to having an attractive roster and a max slot for a free agent.

The trade left the Mavs with $33.5 million in cap room, about $24 million of which is eaten up by the cap hold for Nowitzki, who is a free agent. A multi-year deal that brings Nowitzki back at about $10 million less than that would open up a slot to offer LeBron James, Chris Bosh, or ... wait for it ... Carmelo Anthony a four-year deal starting at $20 million.

Honestly seems like a good trade for both teams. A defensive anchor in the post is basically required with Dirk at the four.

Assuming DH gets resigned Felton is... you know whatever.

Agree that this seems like a push for Melo, which seems like a long-shot but still exciting to consider. Chicago offers the best situation in my opinion.

Carlisle worked wonders with Monta and Tyson can give first hand account of exactly what a great coach does for your championship prospects.

from David Lord:

http://mavericks.scout.com/story/1400399-34-mavs-donuts-dissecting-the-tyson-trade?s=268

quote:
DONUT 2: The Mavs’ spending room to start the summer will be reduced somewhat. There will be an extra $3.5M-ish in salary (counting Chandler’s $500K) trade kicker, plus they will now have to pay for 2 more empty roster slots. The net will leave them with a total of about $37.33M. If the cap lands at $63.2M as has been projected, they will be left with $25.87M before a deal with Dirk.

quote:
Barring further moves, the Mavs’ intentions to pursue LeBron or Melo (see Your Mavs Free-Agency Guidebook here) took a hit in one way, and improved in another.

The trade answers the Mavs need for a center who might be more appealing to LeBron or Melo (you can bet Dallas views this trade as FA bait), but it complicates the ability to fit a max salary for either into the mix.

DONUT 6: LeBron’s expected max of around $20M or Melo’s max of about $22.5M would seem to be undoable if Dirk gets $10M of the remaining $26M or so. But there’s always the possibility that the Mavs have intended to include salary management and shared sacrifice as part of their vision to lure either star onto the Dallas team.

DONUT 7: Or there may be another move or three on tap that will alter the equation between now and then. For example, if the Mavs have a way to trade Brandan Wright for cap space, that would add another $5M of cap room and leave them with plenty.

quote:
If they don’t land LeBron or Melo ...

DONUT 24: First let’s pencil in Harris for the $3M he wants, and Carter for the $2.7M room-MLE. We’ll also assume they plan to keep Wright. That leaves $13M to spend elsewhere.

DONUT 25: The remaining needs would then be (a) SF, (b) shooters who can play defense (3-and-D guys?), and (c) backup center/PF help.

Melo or Lebron is a pipe dream, but they have now positioned themselves to make a pitch.

Ariza and Deng are legit options with the space.

I agree that it is unlikely they get Lebron or Melo. However, a trio of Dirk, Ellis and Chandler makes for an enticing supporting cast, especially when you considering Dirk and Chandler won it all in '11 and the Mavs were the only team to seriously challenge the Spurs in the playoffs (actually probably would have beat them were it not for the Blair suspension).

If they can't get either, Ariza or Deng could be functional. Definitely better than Marion. Resigning Harris seems like it would be a smart move, especially considering the fits he gave SA. Likewise, based their performances against the Spurs, I would like to see Vince and Blair back.

A roster of
5. Chandler
4. Dirk
3. Ariza/Deng (maybe Melo or Lebron)
2. Ellis
1. Harris
With Blair and Carter coming off the bench would be a good (no Melo or Lebron) or great one (Melo or Lebron).

I hope I'm wrong, but in the short term this trade is making us look silly. The Knicks turned the 34th pick into Cleanthony Early, unbelieveable talent for that spot (not to mention a SF, a position of need for us). I know that serviceable bigs are at a premium right now, but we took on Felton, who the Knicks couldn't have otherwise given away.

I know that the Mavs are in "win now" mode, but you always have to keep an eye on the future. I wish we would at least ATTEMPT to build from the draft...

Dan, I live on the East Coast, so other than streaming the Ticket at work, all I get is the East Coast and National perspective and trust me no one thinks the Knicks made the Mavs look silly. Overwhelmingly the media out here thinks it was a better trade for the Mavs. So I wouldn't get too worried about that anyway. The truth is, Chandler fits perfectly in Dallas, where he did not fit well in NY in their system. As to Felton, it's an expiring deal, so there's very little risk.

Good trade for the Mavs. They are not at all in a position to build from the draft. They are not a small move here or there away from a title. Dirk probably only has one more chance at another title (slim at that with his age) so they need to swing for the fences this off-season. They have this year and maybe next to win and then will need to rebuild from square one. When they do start drafting players again they need to get rid of Donnie.

OJ Mayo has been placed on Bucks trading block.

I think he has only gained about 19 pounds since leaving Dallas to dine on cheese in Milwaukee

Mavs have apparently already called Luol Deng and Chandler Parsons, and sat down with Devin Harris.

Resigning Harris is definitely a priority.

They also want to sign Vince but they may not have enough cap space for both.

Harris and Mavs reach verbal agreement. Somewhere north of 3 years 9mm although I've seen some different things on Twitter.

He played well against San Antonio. Happy about this and on what appears to be a friendly contract.

If Plan B falls though (Parsons) signing Pierce might be an option. Yeah, he's old at 37 but he may have another year or two left in the tank. Plus it could give them enough cap room to resign Carter.

Glad to hear they have come to agreement with Harris.

Bring back Marion and Carter, sign pierce, and re-name the Mavs the 2003 NBA All-Star team.

By the way, go look at the 2003 all-star teams. Amazing how many of those players have been in Dallas at one time or another. Nash, Kidd, Walker, Mashburn, Peja, etc.

Cuban is pissing in the Rockets offseason plan sandbox. Parsons move sounding like it could be the real deal.
