It absolutely was a position of need. Perimeter defense was their #2 need IMO. Maybe #1 if Jones and D-Mo improve.

Ariza's contract makes him tradeable. I would guess that he doesn't end the 4 years with Houston.

Backup SF was very far down the list of positions of need for the Rockets.

No way was a wing defender off the bench "way down" the list. It's right at the top. Having Ariza's defense off the bench instead of Lin's is a big improvement.

I thought this was a Mavs thread. I don't give a flying F what Houston does with Ariza now. I'm just glad he isn't in Dallas.

For 15mm you need an all-star caliber SF or at least one that excels at both offense and defense. At least Parsons has upside but I doubt he ever plays up to his contract. And maybe the Crowley sisters stay connected.

For 15mm I would have rather gained multiple assets: Pierce/Ariza/Deng + Stephenson.

It was a need, they get younger, and still have room to offer a max deal in 2015. I can live with him getting 3 million too much.

They gave him as much as they had to in order to get him. Yes he's overpaid at that salary, by quite a bit at that, but the Mavs just got better while Houston got worse.

And they underpaid for Dirk.

Dirk and Parsons at 25 mill = value.

I don't care about the rockets either way because they haven't done anything since I was a young pup at A&M, but I Must admit that it cracks me up they thought they'd have a Bosh-Parsons forward combo Friday afternoon. But no worries, I'm sure Ariza will outplay that contract.

Throw in Ellis value, and it's an even nicer value for their 3-pack of primary offensive weapons, all while maintaining future cap flexibility.

Yeah. Can't overlook Dirk's big pay cut made in order to bring in Parsons.

The Mavs are now loaded at the 2, 3 and 4, at least as far as offense, and we have Tyson there to protect the rim. Perimeter D is obviously still a problem, and we still need another 3 point shooter, but the trio of Dirk, Monta Ellis and Parsons is going to give defenses headaches.

Smart move by Morey not to match. Parsons is a good to potentially great 3. He would of had a rough time as a Stretch 4 though.

Just in year 1 specifically so Morey could not use him in a deal for someone like Love.

Overall I liked what the mavs did this off season. If they stay healthy they could be a solid contender.

Overpaid for Parsons but didn't have much choice the way fee agency was panning out. Not a huge fan of Felton myself and I think a lot of you will come to agree but I like what Cuban did. One of the few teams with a solid offseason.

Best of luck to Chandler! Glad he got a pay day and hopefully plays up to it. Makes me dislike the Mavs less for sure.
