Regarding the gap on defense with Parsons at the 3, we'd be saying the same thing if they got Melo.

And, if they get Deng just for example, then you have a better defensive option but then an issue on the offensive end that Parson's more than addresses.

Outside of Lebron the perfect solution doesn't exist and give me the younger guy with upside 10 times out of 10.

I'd be skeptical of Dallas taking Anthony, too. He's talented, I'm just not sold on him being able to push a team over the top because of his poor defense and offensive efficiency. Deng makes more sense, because Dallas already has scoring with Nowitzki and Ellis.

I think the market value for Dirk versus what they are paying for him more than makes up for overpaying Parsons. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Dirk is still a max contract guy, but I think he could demand $17MM. If Cuban believes he's getting Dirk at $6MM or $7MM under market value, he can afford to overpay PArsons by $3MM and still be ahead.

I mean, it's not a championship team. But Harris(Felton)/Ellis/Parsons/Dirk/Chandler is much a better product than what was on the court in 2013. Probably not good enough to challenge for a top 4 seed in the West, but probably a 50+ win team. Dallas wasn't ever going to land one of the players available to make them a title contender. They could only hope to get better, hope for a little 2011 magic when they weren't the best team, and see what happens. Could get lucky with both Felton and Parson with Carlisle's coaching. Lord knows it won't be worse defensively than 2013, even if they can't bring back Marion.

I agree.

Dirk+Parsons+Monta=32mm is not bad at all.

Melo has a (relatively) low FG percentage, but he isn't inefficient. His 3 point % and free throws make up for it. Btw, his FG % is about equal to Kevin Love's.
Ulrich

Love is 2.1% better in eFG% and 3% better in true FG%. Neither is elite, but that's still a fairly substantial difference. Carmelo is 51st and 73rd among qualified players, which is not particularly good. He can't complain about a bad offense either, since the Knicks are a fairly efficient offensive team.

Solid point on the great value Dirk and Monta more than offset overpaying for Parsons.

Also solid point made that Carlisle may be able to coach Felton up.

We'll see how it plays out. Regardless, have to love the aggressive move by Donnie and Cuban.

Don't sell them short. Cuban has done a masterful job this offseason, even if Houston ends up matching. As a Spurs fan, Dallas becomes a pretty scary team if they make it to the playoffs healthy (with Parsons) and Carlisle gets Felton to play at his best.

I think it's at least possible that team could make a deep run into the playoffs, at which point anything is possible. They may replace Houston as the 4 seed (maybe even go as high as 3 with some breaks) the way things are looking.

If they're a 50+ win team, they will be in the running for a top 4 seed. The West is going to be another demolition derby this year.

The longer Lebron drags this out, the better the Mavs chances of getting Parsons becomes.

Got to feel a little for Bosh ... but not too much.

Why do you feel sorry for him? Because he is incapable of making his own decisions without Lebron to guide him?

The only person that tied Bosh to Lebron's hip was Bosh, so I have no sympathy for him laying in the bed he made.

Yeah, there does seem to be some Brokeback Mountain love going on here with regards to Bosh.

It's not just Lebron. If Melo or Bosh made a move right now, all the dominoes would start falling. It's like a wild west shootout scene, where everyone is out in the street staring at each other, waiting for someone to make a move.

If Bosh wants a max deal from Houston couldn't he just wait until Monday to sign? At that point Parsons would be a Maverick, Houston would have time to dump Lin and Asik, and Houston would have max cap room. Even if LeBron decides on Saturday are we sure that Bosh is ready to sign with Houston in 24 hours? This seems like a big game a chicken.

True. However, it seems pretty clear that Bosh is not making a move until he knows where Lebron is going.

Houston being able to clear that space becomes more of a pipe dream with every passing minute in this stalemate, because the teams Houston would be trading their crappy contracts to get more and more leverage the longer this plays out and the shorter Houston's rope gets.

The teams they want to trade with will either A) realize Houston is desperate and absolutely rape them on the trade deals or B) move on realizing that their own window for FA opportunities is dwindling.

Keep telling yourself that.

Why? It was true 5 seconds before Lebron made his move. And it's still true now, if not even more so. Teams know Houston wants Bosh badly, and that they must execute these trades to make it happen.

And it's not like half the league can make these trades with them. Only a select few teams.

And if we get Bosh, we can still wait the full 72 hours to match Parsons, which ties up Dallas' cap space.
Guitarsoup

Absolutely correct. Houston is on the ropes. They have to get those deals done in the next 48 hours or they can't keep Parsons and get Bosh. So that means teams can ask for more.

This offseason is a failure of failures if Houston misses on Bosh and loses Parsons.

If Bosh is hellbent on leaving Miami, S&T becomes much more plausible. Particularly if he wants to go to Houston or Chicago.

Unless Micky tells Bosh to go **** himself and refuses to help for a couple of over paid role players.

Role players don't do you a lot of good when you don't have star players for them to play roles around.

HOU has had the deals in place for weeks. They will be announced shortly.

Miami has no leverage. They can let Bosh walk for nothing or agree to a S&T. If Houston throws in New Orleans lottery pick and Jones, I think Miami has to listen.
BarryProfit

I think that pick is going with Lin to Philly.

Definitely not inaccurate to say NOLA doesn't have the cap space to absorb Asik and they don't want to cut Austin Rivers for nothing to make it happen.

You don't think morey had a contingency plan for this?

This deal is not going to get held up by the Lin or asik contracts. If bosh wants to come to houston, he will and they will match parsons.

This is all part of Morey's plan! How dare you question his Moreyness!
