I like Stephenson more than Ariza, but you have to deal with the crazy and he is more of a SG than a SF.

I like Parsons as a player. Would have liked him for about 3-4 mm less.

I think Stephenson would have been a good fit. Mavs have veteran leadership and, even though Stephenson's psychotic tendencies are well chronicled, I believe guys like Chandler, Dirk, Carter would provide a much better environment than what existed in Indiana (assuming VC returns).

Besides, Carlisle and others worked wonders on the other mentally unstable Stevenson (Deshawn).

Parsons is a good SF but we are already so deficient on defense... Puts a lot of pressure on Carlisle and shot making.

Did Stephenson play much SF in Indy?

But with Vince, Monta, Felton and Harris, Stephenson isn't really needed. Unless you want Vince to try to chase around the SFs of the league.

Paul George did.

Mavs would have no shot at him for that amount. The only reason they have a chance is because they made an offer over his ideal value.

And have Dirk and Ellis under "ideal" value.

It would be tampering is Morey reached out to Dirk before this off-season.

However, Morey did make a max offer to Dirk, so it wouldn't surprise me.

Good for him. He was a good player and mentor here, was happy to have him. It was fun watching him scare the **** out of the Spurs for a couple games.

So glad to have Vince Carter as a Mav for 3 seasons. One of my favorite players of all time.

Who takes Vince's spot as I know they wanted him back? Marion?

Who is gonna play defense in the backcourt? Is it possible to get Ariza or Stephenson AND Parsons? I guess Marion would be more likely to come back. If they did that - where would the ceiling be for that team? I'm thinking 4 or 5 in the West.

Looks like the offer sheet to parsons removed their ability to compete with memphis's bid. They were only able to offer the room mid level $2.7M. Carter will provide Memphis a pulse of scoring punch they need. Will be interesting to see how mavs respond

They are going after Mo Williams now.

Hate to see Vince go but how can you not be happy for the guy? Before the Parsons deal, he had agreed with us to a 2 year 8 mil deal. Now he is getting an extra year. Not bad for a 37 year old.

I'm pretty stoked about getting Parsons, if we get him. Deng would work as well. As stated though, the other options have real question marks. Hope we don't have to consider them.

Moo Williams is a spurs killer

Actually, as much trash as I talk, the Spurs are my 2nd favorite team. Got family in SA and Corpus.

A rotation of Ellis, Harris, Williams and Felton can make for a good back court, especially if Carlisle coaches Felton up.

That stills leaves the concern about the perimeter D, but oh well.

Going back to Harris, that 3 year deal for 9 mil is looking pretty damn good now.

I'm disappointed that Vince chose the best contract over chasing a ring. He's near the top of the list of old superstar players that haven't yet won a ring. He could have played a Ray Allen role on the Thunder, Spurs, Pacers, clippers etc

Still no sf or front court depth.

Yeah, Vince went for the money over a potential ring and front office job. Still, I can't fault the guy. Not only is it 46% more than what the Mavs we're going to offer, it is for an extra year.

With the Ariza signing, I think Parsons is almost guaranteed to be a Mav now. Depth at the front court is definitely an issue. Although they do have a couple of serviceable guys in Wright and Crowder. I think they need a big banger like Blair. That and the perimeter D are the obvious holes now.

Should have a high octane O though.

weird that we never have enough cap room.

chandler is an expiring contract, but if monta has another good year, he could opt out for more cash. we got a good deal with devin.

i say trade wright for real size. get dj augustin over mo williams with the trade exception.

I think he meant chasing a ring in San Antonio or Cleveland.

No, I meant Dallas, but it could apply to any of the top teams. With the additions of Chandler and Parsons, the Mavs are clearly among the top 3 or 4 in the West. To suggest Memphis is just as good based on last year's record is asinine.

Although there apparently are rumblings that Morey may match Cuban's offer on Parson and make him a stretch 4. Seems weird to me, but if it happens, look for Cuban to go after Stephenson as well as Deng. Cuban said as much. With Carlisle, Dirk and Chandler, I think the three could keep Stephenson in line. Would definitely address the perimeter D issue. Wings would be on the small side with him and Ellis though. Deng is the safer bet but I am kind of intrigued about the nutty kid from Indiana. Best two way player out there right now.

I think Dallas wins 50+ games with this lineup + Parsons. Probably good enough for a 5 or 6 seed.

I think dallas is a 4 seed if we get parsons. If we stay healthy, I think okc, clipps, Houston, and dallas are all pretty close. I think gs and Portland are a little below that and Memphis/Phoenix aittle bow them. So I don't think it's crazy to predict dallas anywhere from 2-7.
mavsfan4ever
How long do you want to ignore this user?

But I'd say dallas is more likely to finish 4-7 in regular season. Id say clipps (you can sub other teams in ere as well) will almost certainly have more wins. But Id like our chances in a playoff series against them.

If all teams are healthy, I think it is crazy to predict anyone other than SA/OKC in 1/2.

Yea I agree that okc is most likely the two seed, especially if they get rid of Perkins or brooks becomes smart enough to not play him. But in a playoff series I think all the teams I mentioned would have a legit shot against them.

Anyways, my main point was that it's not crazy to predict mavs as a 4 seed next year, as summit implied. And even if we are a 6 or 7 seed, I think our chances of winning west will be greater than several teams seeded in front of us.
