I can't find the iso stats, but Stephenson has a significantly higher assist% (assists per possession where he touches the ball) than Parsons.
Lance does have more assists per possession when he touches the ball, but this stat can be a little misleading in my opinion. Assists per possession seem like something that go along with unselfishness and team play, but this stat can be misleading when you are talking about ball dominators. When you have someone that stops ball movement and/or needs to be in iso to be successful, they may end up getting more assists because they will (a) shoot the ball or (b) drive and pass to a teammate when an assist is possible. Also, these players will have the ball when the shot clock is running down, so when they pass a shot will have to be taken immediately a lot of times, which will also cause their assist numbers to be higher.
I know it's a bad example (and I'm not saying Lance is exactly like this but am just using it to prove a point), but a player on a city league team can be both (a) a player who never shoots and (b) the most selfish player on the team. This player would never make a pass unless he was the "playmaker" (was involved in pick and roll, or drove to the basket) and then dished to an open teammate or if he thought his pass would result in an assist. This player would never get "hockey assists" and would never make easy passes just to get things started.
I don't think Lance does a great job of moving the ball and don't think he is good at getting "hockey assists" by making passes that create an assist opportunity for the next player to touch the ball. This is something the Spurs are excellent at, and I think the Mavs do good at it too. I don't think Lance would be a great fit for either team. If we didn't have a playmaker/driver like Ellis, I would be more open to Lance. But having Ellis and Lance play at the same time would not be good in my opinion.
Just to reiterate, I'm not saying I think Lance is a terrible player. I think he is very talented. I just don't think he is a good fit for some teams, including the Mavs. And he is clearly a CANCER in the locker rooms, as evidenced by the low contracts he was offered.
