Another one from the Sacramento sports anchor

I wonder if we kept onto those pieces to make another move, particularly for a center

We didn't keep those guys just to flip them for a mediocre backup center

If Chris Paul wants to go somewhere else I would expect him to be traded for a sinner or we do something small like Branham and a second for Sharpe

Seeings the Mavs are ushering in a new era of wtf we should see if we can get Lively for a couple of seconds and a pack off Marlboro reds

Great move, love that we mostly turned 2 firsts that might never convey, two guys that hardly play and a 2031 swap into Fox. The only valuable asset we gave up was our own 27 pick unprotected, but hopefully that pick is a back half of the first round pick assuming we are still on the ascent.

It does seem that there is now a bit of a logjam in the backcourt with Castle, Fox, Paul, Vassell and Johnson though, so I'd expect one of either Johnson or Vassell to be dealt at some point (maybe the offseason) as we still need to upgrade the wing position. Those two are on pretty reasonable contracts, but make too much to be fulltime backups IMO.

For me, my future championship core starters are

Fox
Castle
XXX
XXX
Wemby

So still work to do IMO to finish this roster.

I don't think there is a logjam at all actually, we just happen to now have a competent 2-deep at our 1-3 positions which is what you SHOULD have as a team looking to make the playoffs. I think this is how we are going to let it rock for the rest of the year:

PG: Fox-CP3
SG: Dev-Julian
SF: Castle-Keldon
PF: Barnes-Sochan
C: Wemby-?

We are really a capable backup Center away from having a 10-man rotation that I feel good about. We will let CP3 hang around for the next couple years if he wants to, I'd imagine. But I'm not really seeing a logjam at all, Castle is 6'6 and very strong; he can hold up at the 3 just fine, and Dev can guard the lesser wing. I do agree that Fox-Castle-Wemby are your guys set in stone as starters on our next playoff team, and that Dev/Keldon are on the block if there's another high-end talent that can be had.

I'll be really surprised if CP3 comes off the bench. His whole thing with coming here was that he would start and play meaningful minutes. Paul wasn't not happy coming off the bench in Golden State. Unfortunately, at least for this season, I think it's more likely he and Fox start in the backcourt and Castle comes off the bench. I hope I'm wrong though.

Edit: I also don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that we trade Chris in the next couple days to a contender.

Don't forget that Fox needs surgery on his non-shooting hand.

Could see them shut him down and get that repaired.

Would increase their odds of winning Capture the Flagg.

That would be a bummer.

I just struggle with where we could trade Paul that he would be happy and we could get a center.

Orlando for my guy Goga Bitazde makes the most sense for us and Paul could start there.

NYK for Mitchell Robinson and hope Robinson can play someday.

Pistons to play with Cade and we get BeefStew

Memphis for Brandon Clarke?

Back to Warriors for Looney?

Blazers for Rob Williams

Paul isnt going to like all those options.

There are also the smaller moves like Branham for DayRon Sharpe or Branham for Yasabule.

Yea, really interested to see what we do for a big. We have to do something with having only one back up big who is injury prone. Likely to use some seconds to get it done. Unless we want to grab Bamba.

Branham is a better center than Bamba.

There is also the waiver market pops pretty soon.

We do have some money on our exception, so we could take a small salary guy without sending anyone out. And we could use that exception to give a better 1y deal than teams with only a minimum.

Listened to Simmons' take on the Fox trade while driving to lunch. Nothing earth-shattering, but worth a listen:

I genuinely feel for them man. What a **** ownership group/front office to not communicate to the player and coaching staff and to alienate the entire fan base. I can understand why Dallas fans wouldn't cheer for that team. I know I wouldn't, at least for a while.
