I don't really understand why anyone wouldn't think this is a very good signing for the Spurs? He has enough go to scoring that once upon a time he was the dude, which will help with our secondary scoring off the bench when things slow down in the half court. He's played a long side Cade and Duren in Detroit the last two years and certainly knows how to play a role. He's much more offensively gifted that Champagne, actually has some play making chops, and is a better career 3 point shooter. Defensively he competes and has much better positional size, which is what we were looking for. He'll struggle on an island on the perimeter of he gets switched into a guard, but there wasn't an option out there that was going to be a lockdown guy like that. He's another vet with playoff experience and is a great locker room guy. This is a great signing for a guy that will most likely be the 7th guy in minutes played.

I'm telling you he took that Yahoo job and became all engagement bait all the time. Chubby Skip Bayless

KOC has definitely been on a downhill slide the last couple years. He lacks the ability to understand how different guys fit into different lineups. He's just looking at basketball reference stats and sees that him and Champgnie had the same basic stats and that makes him redundant. He doesn't get that he has much more to him as a secondary playmaker and that he has way better positional size for defending bigger players. It's the same reason why he kept beating the dead horse about "Spurs would be better if they drafted Knueppel instead of Harper" all year long. He can only operate under the assumption that you don't play with more than one PG on the floor, and it makes a lot of his takes incredibly short sighted.

Love this signing. He can create and get a quality shot. He stepped up big in the playoffs just a couple months ago so he's not washed. He is a top three 3 pt shooter for us.

Will have to see how he performs but on paper, I think I trust the ball in his hands with the game on the line over just about anyone on our squad. At least early in the season while our young pups mature. He will give us a little of what we thought we were getting in Fox for vet leadership and big buckets.

He also will space the floor, rebound and defend and be a solid mentor for Bryant at about the same size.

I can see him starting and finishing the games and also getting some minutes with the second unit.

Some of the lineups we can now run will be fun.

Name me a lineup more talented than:

Harper
Castle
Vassell
Harris
Wemby

That lineup can all drive, shoot, rebound and defend.

Name me a second unit more talented than:
Fox
Champ
KJ
Bryant
Kornet

Some of these lineups will be fun! Can swiss army knife against almost anyone.

Just need to keep everyone healthy and have everyone shoot 10k 3s this off-season and improve shot selection. To tick up percentages just a point or two and we will be very tough to beat.

The east has certainly gotten interesting this offseason.

-Toronto gets Kawhi back. **** him.
-Miami gets Giannis
-Philly gets Jaylen Brown
-New York loses Mitchell Robinson
-Boston turned Brown in PG and picks

Fox isn't coming off the bench.

Harper will be unanimous 6MOY. He's not ready to run the half court offense full time, he's still more of an individual scorer

I bet Fox starts but plays a bunch with the second unit as the primary scoring option. That's actually the best role for him and his style. He needs to shoot at volume.

If Harper keeps developing at this rate he will finish games regardless of who starts.

Philly improved
Toronto improved
Miami improved
Celtics will be fine
Pacers improved
Cavs might get LeBron
Knicks will be about the same in the regular season
Wizards should be improved
Nets and Bulls improved and won't be tanking

Hawks are running it back with Jock Landale and 35yo CJ McCollum. They declined the option on Kuminga

I'm liking that pick

Not a great post by KOC. At least name alternatives you like more. We were effectively six deep in the playoffs. Getting a contributor with at least some shot creation ability is a nice add on a team-friendly two (2) year deal.

I feel like the engagment farmers are just looking for engagement, not the growth or development of a franchise. Easy to say push all in and make big swings and big trades but nobody knows if that method is gonna end up in championships anyway.

Have you see any moves made by anyone that improves their status by...10 wins? By 20 wins? Or adding that one piece that gets them one more round closer to the finals? I haven't.

We had a very good team with very specific needs and I think we've done a good job addressing those needs within a realistic framework and not blowing up the future around our big 3. I'm completely satisfied so far.

Also i don't mind the Lebron circus if that happens. I kinda like being the team that everyone hates and rolls their eyes at. Frankly all i care about is the race for seis in the short term and hanging as many banners as possible long term. Make the roof transparent at the new arena and we'll keep everyone cool by hanging banners.

Traded 3 bad firsts for DeAaron Fox and went from lottery to Finals in one year.

Tobias was always the target.

Just like I said, it wouldn't be Rui or Collins.

The more I read up on Tobias the more I am liking the signing. He is probably going to be our best back to the basket post player (something we severely lacked), while somehow also being a top three 3 pt shooter by percentage for us.

He is supposedly a solid teammate and vet leader. He can play as a starter, closer or bench role.

He was the 3rd leading scorer on the pistons, second leading scorer in the playoffs. This pistons team wasn't great but they were no slouch with the best record in the east.

He is a surprisingly good passer, solid spot up shooter, above average defender and can create his own shot, which this team needs. He's basically a more in control, taller, better shooting Keldon with better defense.

Negatives are he is a bit ball dominant, kinda like Fox in that regard and sometimes struggles in big games, also like Fox. Pairing Fox, Harper or Harris with the second unit at almost all times makes a lot of sense to stop the second unit fall off we saw late in the playoffs.

It will be interesting to see how he meshes with Wemby. I think it will work pretty well, but even if Champ ends up being the better fit for spacing, the scoring consistency that Harris brings when Wemby isn't on the court will be huge for this squad.

Potential 3 deep:
PG: Fox - Harper - JMac
SG: Castle - Champ - DJG
SF: Vassell - Keldon - Barnes
PF: Tobias - Bryant - Quaintance,
C: Wemby - Kornet - Reed

This signing theoretically allows a true 3 deep with everyone playing their true position. It's incredibly deep and allows for a huge range and swiss army knife flexibility.

If there is one negative on this team, it's still the 3 shooting, but there is enough talent and depth there that you hopefully can find the hot hand or two on any given night and be really selective on taking open shots.

This team should absolutely hammer teams in the regular season. I predict the best record in basketball if they stay generally healthy.

Biggest question is can they reach a higher ceiling, because Harris absolutely raises the floor!

Quote:

Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff has described Harris as his "safety blanket," and Harris has been revered as a professional who brings leadership to the locker room. For example, multiple Pistons have praised how Harris has helped younger guys on the team fine-tune their daily routines and approach recovery as a veteran should.

"That's really my guy," backup point guard Daniss Jenkins said of Harris after a Pistons playoff win against the Cleveland Cavaliers. "(It's) all the little things. Just talking to me because it's not easy playing behind the main guy when you're in that position. So it's just all the little things to keep my mental right. To stay with it and stay poised through all the ups and the downs."

Harris said those bonds with his teammates bring him "a lot of life."

The Spurs needed a power forward who could provide good size at the position, but remain versatile: Harris fits the bill, someone who can play from the wings but also can work out of the dunker spot or post when needed. He is solid at just about everything on the court and has the size to consistently finish in the paint. The Spurs relied on Keldon Johnson when they needed physicality at the four last season, but he struggled to finish once the Spurs got deeper into the playoffs. Harris has a good driving game with decent floater touch and some creativity around the basket. He won't need to score as much as he did in Detroit he took 15 shots a game during the Pistons' recent playoff run.

Harris brings the offensive polish the Spurs were missing in the frontcourt and has enough size to make a difference against teams who can win the battle in the trenches like the Oklahoma City Thunder and New York Knicks. Beyond just winning the positional battle under the rim, the Spurs really needed someone besides the guards who could get all the way to the rim and finish with composure. He should be able to operate in more space, considering the Spurs' playmaking depth and the way Victor Wembanyama tilts the floor

It's a fine rule for the summer league, where the outcome of games doesn't really matter. If they ever actually consider this for real NBA games, I'll be pissed.

Yeah feels like this is a "we'll just use a running clock in the 2nd half if you guys are good with it" time saving thing. With 10 fouls being a possibility who wants the games to drag out that long (other than sickos like us) when its journeyman vs journeyman iso battles

We have two spots left. My guess is that one goes to Jordan McLaughlin and the other goes to someone young. I kind of hope it is Maliq Brown or Jakobi Gillespie.

If Barnes got the full 8M that was reported, we have 4.5M under the luxury tax, which means we can give one vet min to a player with 2+ years of experience and one to someone with 0-1 years of experience and stay under the luxury tax.

With his injury history, I wouldn't want to be on the hook for 35% of the cap for years 33-37
